  1. I don't think they have to in order to hear the problems in the recording, and that's not meant to be a bash against the Crossment
  2. I should have been more clear, I meant championship week placement. Also, no offense to any 2/3 corps, but 4th in division 1 is better than 3rd in division 2. For me it gets fuzzy when you're talking about corps that don't make semis compared to the 2/3 champions, but generally div 2/3 corps would not place higher than maybe 14th in div 1 (Magic 02 excluded). As far as "worth" goes, I don't think placements have that much to do with the worth of a summer, and this poll isn't about what placement is "worth more." It's a purely objective poll about where you finished.
  3. By medalist I meant top 3. As for the various versions of Div 2/3 finalist, take your pick because I honestly don't know that much about how that all works
  4. Self explanitory, what is the highest you have placed in DCI competition (championship week)? I'm just curious to see where the majority of DCP finished in their DCI careers.
  5. There is a reason that most corps outside of the top 6 or so don't typically post many preseason videos or sound clips. This is it. That being said, I don't think it's quite as bad as usmpiano makes it out to be. The Crossmen moved in a day or two before that performance, I would imagine that by sunday afternoon their faces aren't feeling too friendly, I know mine never did on the Sunday after a camp (Which is what it adds up to). This is essentially them being thrown on a stage in front of cameras and lots of people for show and tell at the end of a camp, and when taking that into consideration it's not horrible. Whether or not they'll be a finalist caliber hornline this year is yet to be seen. They have a lot of work ahead of them, and these days there are a lot of corps out there battling for a spot in finals. I would wager though that they aren't THAT far ahead or behind anyone else that has moved in 2 days prior to a performance.
  6. No, adding an amplified vocalist singing a rock and roll song doesn't do anything objectively. It's a matter of opinion, and is therefore subjective.
  7. Don't fall into the trap of believing that DCP represents the majority of drum corps fans
  8. I think the History Repeating thing fits very well considering during it the corps is going to be performing the last minute or so of last years show in a completely different tempo from what the singer/pit are doing. This is pure speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if History Repeating turns out to be the "on field warmup"
  9. Last I checked my knees bend when I march too, and I use straight leg technique. Lots of rookies don't understand straight leg technique either, and that's when the staff tells them to bend their knees more. It's not about tightening your leg up while your marching, although that's a mistake nearly everyone makes at first, it's just about straightening your leg quickly after passing by your other leg. Honestly, it feels very much like walking going forward. I won't pretend that the straight leg backup isn't more difficult than the Cavalier technique, but I personally prefer it to the squatting look I've seen many people from "bicycle" corps have
  10. First, the inability to keep a straight leg while doing some of that drill is the reason that jazz running exists. I've never seen a corps try to jazz run with straight legs, and that includes the Cadets. Second, the technique that 'straight leg' corps use isn't as peg legged as some of you guys make it out to be. There is a bend in the knee in all corps. When using the straight leg technique the idea is to minimize the bend, and have straight legs on the downbeat. The pants do the rest to hide the bend and make it look like 'straight legs.' It's not nearly as stressful on the knees or unnatural as some people like to think it is. I think the part of drum corps that is bad on the knees is the running around the field like a maniac for 8 hours a day for 3 months despite the marching technique. As for my personal (biased) opinion on marching styles... I like my drum corps like I like my hair cut... with scissors!
  11. iPods can rewind, and they work much the same way CD players do. There is one button that changes songs and rewinds, if you hold the button it rewinds, if you just press it then it will go all the way back to the beginning.
  12. iPods ARE a quality product. Yes, they are a bit pricier than a lot of the competition, but I have never met someone who regretted purchasing one. Also, their marketing campaign had nothing to do with my purchase of an iPod, the testimonials of my friends that had them did.
  13. My favorite was the first one, but only when I thought it was supposed to be the Cavaliers
  14. It is. Drum Corps is a competitive activity, and a little friendly joking around about your competition IS fun. I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure he was exagerating on purpose.
  15. I'll lighten up as soon as you do Skippy :P I was joking as well, but it might not have come across as clear as it was intended because I made the mistake of posting during class :P But I assure you that I wasn't intending to ruffle your feathers Skip And back on topic, lots of corps do this, it's just usually not on video. I know I've done my fair share of bicycle marching, but it's all in good fun. I want to see more though!
  16. Having one CD would certainly #### off the staffs. Instead of everyone having to listen to their seperate tape, which takes a total time of 11 and a half minutes, each caption will have to be listened to individually, which takes over an hour for the CD to make its rounds.

  18. I laughed, and he even made fun of me. You guys need to lighten up a bit.
  19. It turns out that Lindsay Lohan died in a car accident last summer. It's the truth, I swear!
  20. I don't know, but when they do, that's IT, DCI will no longer be getting my money! :P
  21. Last year the SSB was played with both the Cadets and Crossmen hornline. Why do you assume it was a Cadet that hung over? PS - It's early in the season, people make mistakes. In fact, believe it or not, every corps that has ever won a brass trophy has made mistakes IN THEIR FINALS PERFORMANCE!
  22. The question you have to ask yourself is this: "If I do not take this opportunity, am I going to regret it for the rest of my life?" One of the biggest lessons I learned in my corps was to do everything you can to live with no regrets. Sure, you may have some other things lined up right now, but 10 years from now would you rather be thinking "Man, I missed band camp that one year" or "Man, I could have been one of the best in the world"
  23. If he wants to march for The Cavaliers I say take him to the Cavaliers. I had a friend who marched there, and I believe that they tell you whether or not you should come back to the following camps as early as December. If they tell him that he needs more experience then that is still plenty of time to go somewhere else. In all honesty, speaking as someone who has auditioned at two corps at the same time, it doesn't hurt to go to more than one set of camps if you have the time and they aren't on the same weekend. You'd be surprised at the little differences in corps that can make the experience extremely different. When I made my decision of where to march I knew that it was the right one because i had experienced some others.
