  1. Yes but show day rehearsals are very different than non show days because the daily schedules are quite different, factoring travel to a new site and travel from their housing to the show. Over the week leading to Atown corps had similar rehearsal time. No one had an advantage other than Boston having taken 3 days for a camp. Bloo, by this extra day logic, actually had less time than other corps.
  2. And the other corps had rehearsal on Thursday where some corps were in a show Thursday. So no “extra” rehearsals. That thinking would say Bloo had less because they had a show Thursday and Friday.
  3. How about the corps breathing down BD’s neck are actually quite good?
  4. What did last nights corps do when tonight’s corps performed in Lawrence Thursday. Wasn’t that THEIR extra day of rehearsal? Or did it all even out?
  5. Didn’t miss anything. Your simplification of the problem, as you wrote it, was what I responded to. You chalked up SCV problems were due to alum infighting.
  6. It can’t be boiled down to SCV’s problems being just alum infighting. It’s more than that and alum infighting and all is another log on the fire.
  7. No, the true problems are unquestionably poor management practices in a number of areas.
  8. Wow, there’s a comment never seen before “went to Blue Devils, BAC and/or Bluecoats to chase a medal”! Went to BAC. Kids used to go FROM BAC to chase a medal. That’s a testament to how far they have come in the past few years after so many years trying.
  9. I agree, they should go up but they don’t always go up. Boston just had a 3 day camp this week before their show in Lawrence. So after day 3 was complete, they drive thru the night to have a day of short block sectionals the day of the show, which is the norm for corps rehearsals on show days. Show day rehearsals are different rehearsal days, because your days schedule is coordinated with where your housing is relative to a show site and your performance time. What I’m saying is I wouldn’t consider that day a true rehearsal day like a day where you didn’t have a show. And it’s different if you’re performing early or late. It can change your show day rehearsal schedule by hours.
  10. Let’s get past the fallacy that BD has no weaknesses. Unless you are winning every caption every performance, you have a weakness, or more specifically a performance level that enables another corps to win that caption. What will be said if BD doesn’t win next week? Will there be excuses of some sort? Or will it be that a corps actually put a performance together that was rewarded with a win? BD has shown vulnerability. But it will require a corps to hit on all captions and get past a bias that BD can’t be beat.
  11. No. Shows are shows, practices are rehearsals when you’re on the road. Practice you do at home.
  12. I’m not sure corps from night 2 get an extra day of rehearsal especially those who had a show the night before day 1. It all evens out.
  13. IMO, it is quite relevant to this season and beyond, by keeping these types of issues and concerns at the forefront of drum corps daily behaviors related to fiscal responsibility and abuses. It’s just one of several discussion threads on DCP. This particular thread is informative and enables ideas to be shared, that may prove very helpful for orgs to create or modify their own P&P. DCP’rs can glean information, research it and apply it however they see fit with an org, or simply to learn about what to look for in and org and it’s institutional functioning to report any bad actions or actors, whether itbis fiscal or abusive.
  14. They did Chief. All corps had great runs but Mandarins impressed everyone. I was surprised at just how powerful the brass was. Wind was a challenge but they did well. What a great summer for you and your son. Hope to see you in Indy.
  15. One negative I had with Mandarins, Phantom and Bloo was what I felt was a lack of dynamic balance brass wise. It is like they were all trying to out loud the other. Many sections were just loud. No variety of dynamics. I like loud, but this to me, felt like a lot. Too much. I can appreciate power, but not so much of it in each show.
