  1. More body movement out of the horn line than I have ever seen from BD. Drill fits the show, very well coordinated - a total production. Not the velocity of Cadets this year - but totally works with their theme.
  2. Blue Devils, - guard guy does a handstand on the chair in the opening. - very cool.. As is the entire corps - the definition of drum corps cool. I actually like the chairs. Adds new levels.
  3. Since I am working the show - I did not get to see much of Colt Cadets, but what I did see was pretty well done for such a young ensemble. Troopers - what you have heard is true - best corps in years. well designed and performed -but top 12 will still take much work cleaning - but they appear to be doing the right things and are entertaining Colts - good performance but did not capture my imagination with their theme. They need to put more character into the production. I don't smell the sea. Blue Devils are on the field..... back in a moment.
  4. Standing O for Blue Knights. Solid performance
  5. Colt Cadets, Mandarins, Troopers and Colts all went before intermission
  6. Wind has died down a little. Much appreciated by the guard, I'm sure
  7. Blue Knights have just begun. Nice full sound to the horn line. Guard is all white - unis and Flags.
  8. I am sitting in the press box and it is a beautiful night for drum corps in a great venue. (although a little windy) A full house and a great lineup. It is intermission now and Blue Knights are setting up to perform in a few minutes.
  9. So who was the drum line they just used in the big music production on the Oscars?
  10. I remember cutting rehearsal early to go watch the Eagles in the SuperBowl!
  11. This is the only stadium chart that seems to exist - with only sections labeled. Does anybody know how many rows are in the upper section? And how the seats are numbered - from center out, or from aisle to aisle?
  12. Does anyone know where to view a detailed seating chart of memorial stadium? All the ticket sites only show charts with the sections. They don't show row numbers or seat numbers. How many rows in a section? Where are the aisles? I just received my Super 5 premium tickets and I think I might need an oxygen tank and high powered binoculars.
  13. Has anyone looked at the votes over the past 5 years to see if the outcome would be different if only the top 9 votes had been counted?
  14. Just curious. Who is John Howell? dstemet
  15. Just wondering if anyone has ever analyzed how individual judges rank corps in particular captions throughout a season and how often rankings change for a particular judge. It appears from a brief look at the results that judges rarely change their rankings of corps in captions once July starts and then changes in overall rankings become more a factor of the composition of the panel.
  16. I called the Rose Bowl the other day as I could not find information on whether they allowed outside food and drink. You can bring in bottled water as long as the seal has not been broken. You may carry in a "sack lunch". You may NOT carry in a BACKPACK or cooler etc. This was told to me by someone in the Rose Bowl office. Hopefully they knew what they were talking about!
  17. Good Point, as history shows, the panel is everything. He who picks the panel picks the show.
  18. Capes with the Crossmen go back to 78 when we first used them. The ones they are using now look very similar in style to the ones we designed back then - long and with dow rods in the ends to allow for extension when lifted. The original ones were red with a white lining - and very heavy. Had some great effects - that were new to drum corps at the time - excecution was a bear! For example - the full rotating block in the 78 opener - Jazz Rhapsody. It was a time when the corps was defining a personality and it became a signature of the corps even after we stopped wearing them on the field - as the iconic spirit Bones - adornes one on his mysterious appearances. Kudos to Ralph Pace for the original high risk concept and Mark Sylvestor for paying homage to the era and the legend.
  19. And who wrote Crossmen's show in 1980?......Tony Smith, who was with Boston in the 70's.
  20. Do you have the link to that video? I can't find it on Google video. Thanks Doug Crossmen 75-77
  21. Boeing Beach - it looks much nicer in the picture than it really was. We were not allowed to paint lines on it so we duct taped an entire field and when the sun baked it and the wind blew it away we had duct tape adhesive lines that lasted for weeks. Doug Stemet Crossmen 75-77
  22. do you know something about the direction they are going with the program?
  23. Well said Gary!! Doug Stemet Crossmen - 75-77
  24. When the Crossmen were formed in the fall of 74 it was because of a will to survive and to have a great corps from the Philly area. We came from several corps in the area that had been fierce competitors. We put our differences aside and united for a cause. I remember a bus ride to "Boonton Nationals" late in the 74 season when some of the Hornets came on our buses and we plotted our future, dreaming of being DCI finalist. Because of some administrators and in-spite of others the Crossmen were formed and we realized our dream in 1977. Since then the corps has been through a roller coaster of a ride - probably wilder than any other drum corps. The road was never easy. And now the flag will fly in San Antonio. Will it be the same - absolutely not, will it be worse or better - who knows. Will it be Philly - no way. I doubt they will cut rehearsal short if the Birds make the superbowl. But will it be the Bones - that is the question for everyone and the measure of true success for many of us. I truly hope that the leadership of the Crossmen, not just YEA are involved in the transition. From this alumni's perspective, Scott and Rick (Alum Pres) should have received the first call from Mr. Chambers - asking for guidance and to learn the tradition he inherits. If not, then his words of carrying on the legacy are just words. The Crossmen are not a brand - they are a family, a tradition, a legacy of unity. Doug Stemet 75-77 Sop 78, 81-83 Staff
