  1. I meet up with Phantom this wednesday in Omaha...Im pretty excited....
  2. I marched with him, He is a former mello player. Since this is his first year as DM, I am going to assume that he is just wearing his aussie how he always has...under his chin...which is how we (as brass players) had to wear them...so we could you know... play...and keep our ausies on. I'm here to help
  3. 1. The Cadets 1. Phantom Regiment 3. The Cavaliers 4. Blue Devils 5. Bluecoats 6. SCV 7. Scouts 8. Crown 9. BAC 10. Blue Knights 11. Glassmen 12. Spirit 13. Velvet Knights (sure why not) I know I am a bit biased, but who cares. So since I have already stated that my opinion is completely biased no need to discuss it.
  4. obviously the hottest guys in DCI are ALL of the Madison Scouts....
  5. generally speaking I don't like to talk about other corps but in this case I'll give credit where credit is due... I saw Phantom in Battle Creek this past weekend, and I will say that parts of their show are amazing. Are there things that need to be tightened down a bit? ...of course, there's still a lot of time. And as I witnessed last year as they started beating us, then the blue Devils Phantom has the ability to crank out an amazing show, and keep getting better and better. I loved their Ballad, the drums added color, and texture. I still liked the Scouts more. B)
  6. ...The Scouts had a pretty sweet mellophone section last year.......
  7. Speaking of these "experts" I had a middle aged woman her husband telling me that " The Blue stars are an all male corps, except for last year" "the Madison Scouts are still a boy scout troop out of Wisconsin, and all the members are from Madison and still in the troop (which would mean that they would have to be still in high school)" "Well almost all of the member in the BAND are in the boy scout troop...they have to go find other girls to be in the guard cause there aren't enough guys that would ever want to dance around the field and what not." This was all in the stands before the show started......while I had my Madison Corps jacket laying across my lap....while wearing my Scouts member shirt. Even after finding out that i was an alum of the scouts, they still tried to claim I was wrong...... Gotta love small town shows, and small town crowds. (this was the Pt. Huron show for all of you who need to know)
  8. Well if any brass instructors, preferably trumpet instructors are looking to get some work. Rockford bands are looking for a trumpet instructor for their band camp. Rockford is just a little bit north east of Grand Rapids. If you want some more information send me a message mcgregok@student.gvsu.edu
  9. Much like the previous poster I very rarely feel a need to post anything on DCP, but lately the talk of the Scouts has really bothered me. The Madison Scouts are still very much so concentrated on trying to get everyone in the stands off their feet. However, in todays current corps climate, playing "park and bark" all latin shows will not allow a corps to be successful (anymore), and most certainly will not allow for any progression in the activity. Its so funny everyone rips on the Scouts when they play Malaga, but then when they try something new, something that shows musicality, style, and still has the potential to melt your face at times (Once they get the endurance to march and play their book at 100%) they still get ripped on for "loosing their identity." Maybe I'm being overly sensitive about it, it just doesn't seem like people are giving these guys a fair shake. To people talking about the staff and whether or not they should be there because they aren't alumni... Maybe this is a change for some of you alumni, but as far as I, and most of the current Brothers ...the staff whether they marched with Madison or some other corps (or just Blast- in one case I know of) are our brothers. So please lets "lift our brothers up" its ok to not be happy with whats going on, but lets at least show some respect for the corps, if nothing else. AKA Be a gentleman in public...IE on DCP don't put down/talk bad about YOUR corps. Maybe this was developed after some of your time, however, it is something that most members buy into (myself included) So lets be the best BROTHERS we can be, because these guys are your brothers...like them or not. I think using the line 'Don't let them walk alone.' Would be too cheesy, but I think you get the idea. -sorry for the long post-
  10. Wow its like a cascade reunion in here. Hey Mark and Dan....Mark you didnt tell me you got engaged, congrats! Now I'm not saying scores are the most important thing is this activity, but since I'm in Michigan and havent gotten a chance to see the Cascades, it's all I have to go on. But this stagnate score for Seattle really seems odd (Unless things have changed since I marched there and they now just have free days every day). It seems unlikely that practicing every day and working on the show would lead to only a few tenths of a point over a few weeks. So I really am excited for them to get off the west coast to see what other judges have to say about them.
