  1. Well, I have a slow day at work and some free time, so I'll voice my opinion on the matter: This is a discussion forum. Vets, alums, paying fans, they all come here to discuss, argue, review, criticize about something they love. It's the whole point. Wherever there is a performance, whether it being in figure skating, swimming, or drum corps, people watching will have an opinion of it. You can judge them for judging others all you want, but people here won't stop having an opinion about the show that's being performed in front of them, even more if they paid to see it, just because there is hard work behind it from the performers. As a marcher on the field I never cared for scores or rank, only of my personal best performance. As a fan, now, I do rank corps I see based on my personal preferences. Deal with it. And I don't believe kids should all receive a pat on the back for the effort either. There is way too much of that today, in life in general. I mean... a 1st grade graduation? Really? "Wow kid, you can abstract paint with your fingers, here is a medal" Nope. It is young adults performing. They need to have a thicker skin. I appreciate and fully understand the effort behind a drum corps performance, but if the baritone line is out of step at finals, there is something wrong with either the performers or the staff and I'll point it out. That's how life is. Of course some are more rude or "classless" than others. It's a social network with all kinds of people. I think you can block the people you dislike here (but I've never tried) so your DCP experience is a little more "puppies and rainbows" like. Just a suggestion
  2. You mean the judges agreed to give them a higher score than they deserved?
  3. yes that's it. Left hand behind the left ear, right hand far in front. Very awkward. I think I have pictures, somewhere... You know they are old and crappy when a whole line of that is GIVEN to your corps. Hey we made the best of it and won brass in our class in 95! haha
  4. Are you serious when you say that ultratone piston/rotor were "fun" to play????? I started my drum corps career on a contra like that, and good player or not, weather you can make it sound decent or not, it's definitely the worst peace of crap horn I've ever played on! Or maybe it's just because the instrument was older than me and should have been recycled into chromed car parts instead of being played by a poor little 13 year old. lol Back on topic: I think the change was mostly to make the recruitment of marching band kids easier, and the playing and teaching a lot easier too. Bb horn are much easier to play on, in my opinion, less crap to deal with, anyway.
  5. The closest they have come to it was actually in 2005, with 98.45 - then they had 98.31 in 2007. Not that I'm monitoring this closely, or anything... lol
  6. thank you! that ranking sure looks exciting (well from 2nd down, at least) ! Good luck to all! I hope I can make it to DCA this year!
  7. Well, THAT is a great example of a useless comment. You just want to start trouble. I'm pretty certain that Bucs will win more shows than Brigs did too, and, well, I'm pretty OK with it. (or so says my psychiatrist) I just hope they don't win their 46th show with a score above 98.6 I'm gonna need more sessions if that happens. geez lol
  8. Well in that same idea, why even create discussion forums? Everyone all have their own "obvious" answers to whatever questions, the point is to discuss them. Why are YOU even on here telling people how useless it is to discuss things that are SO obvious? Why am I even on here telling you the purpose of a discussion forum? I don't know what your answer is but mine is that I'm freaking bored at work and I still need to look like I'm working so I engage in useless conversations. OK, now that the "obvious" comment about how useless all of this is has been written, we can keep enjoying wasting our time :)
  9. FYI, it's 42-0. The title here is wrong. As Jim said one of their score was for an exhibition and doesn't count. And I think they do give a crap. It's the whole point. When you've won for that long, the point of working harder and being better then yourself IS to stay on top. Every details count, even more than if you are a second place corps. People want you to lose so bad that they are that much more critical of you. Plus, they HAVE to care about staying on top and keep on winning. Otherwise members get complacent, and than you get second place. Not that I know what I'm talking about or anything...
  10. Well I really wish Bucs the best, but I also really, really wish they'd finish second, lets say... at their 45th show.
  11. And call it SGI, SummerGuard International. That works.
  12. Yep, I'm there too. I don't mind it. The subject of synths is being discussed on the DCI forum and it's very intersting to read the pros and cons people are bringing to the table. BUT, everytime someone writes that synths could be a good option to replace an expensive low brass line or make up for the lack of recruitment skills for tuba members, my heart skips a beat! IT'S CRAZY! I'm following the DCI season of Fan Network and although some corps use it tastefully, I still find that it's quite a useless addition (IMO). Sure it adds a different "color", but some corps give more parts to synths so the brass can contribute more visually. Why? I personally find a corps exciting if all the sections can march AND play at the same time... lol Isn't THAT what drum corps is supposed to be? I wouldn't be worried about synths ever being in DCA. DCI is proving right now that it's not that much of an improvment to the activity, it's just one more toy to have for show design pursposes.
  13. So I didn't attack anyone but my post got removed, probably because of the text I quoted. So I will write again: GO BRIGS! YOU LOOK GOOD!
  14. Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I find it funny to read how easily people point fingers in accusations over what MJ MIGHT have been doing with his personal life. Like anything the press say is ever the complete honest truth. Geez. No matter how weird, he still was a wonderful artist. As for the tribute by a corps? Please, I hope not. WGI and Marching Band, sure. But drum corps? not for me!
  15. Heeeeey Dale, haven't seen you here in a while, I was just going to post this... haha After our first show in 2003, most people said we would be champions again. Lesson learned: Never assume other corps won't rise to the occasion!
  16. Just want to say that I'm having a lot of fun reading this thread guys. And Tom
  17. OK 96. cents a litre is a little much over lets say 70. cents about 5 years ago. BUT I take the 85 cents for a US dollar any day compare to the 65 cents of 5 year ago... haha
  18. The corps person controlling the synth was a " Dudess " in full pit uniform. The mixer dude must have stolen the announcers electrical plug to fire up the electronics! The sound coming from the synthesizer inspired a young fan to play his kazoo! ( kid was da best ) I'll withold opinion until after the season, all this combat verbage and trolling is extra added fun and excitement! Are you actually telling ME all of this or you just quoted me randomly? Because, if you are replying to me, I really don't get why. Just curious...
  19. And I put whatever is available in my coffee... cream, milk, sugar, Baileys, Amaretto... I'm not picky.
