  1. As I am sure some of you remember I did an off season thread series about DCPs favorite show from each WC drum corps. I was debating about doing head to head matchups but figured it wouldn't be fair to put beloved championship shows against shows that never made finals. So I will be doing 3 head to head matchups of 3 groups. 1. Corps with championships 2. Finalists but never had a championship. 3. Corps that never made finals. I was going to do 8,8, and 8 but the Cascades and the Academy are in the same boat so it will be 7,9, and 8. First group up is finalists but not medalists. The shows to choose from based on responses from the off-season. 5 will advance (then 2 next round) Deadline is Midnight EST Fri. Night/Saturday morning Blue Knights 1994 Trittico for Wind Band Spirit of Atlanta 1980 Boston Crusaders 2000 RED Crossmen- 1992 Songs for Planet Earth The Academy-2016 Drum Corpse Bride Seattle Cascades 2002 City Riffs The Colts 2007 Equinox Blue Stars- 2008 Le Tour The Troopers 1985 Rules: 1.Pick4 -5 of these shows that you like the best NO MORE and NO LESS. 2. Do not put your picks in order of preference. You can list as I have listed, alphabetically, or chronologically. 3. You can explain why you eliminated shows but do not explain why you kept them. This will help keep suspense for later rounds. 4. Be polite and constructive. I don't want to see these threads closed or deleted.
  2. Exactly. The intention was to showcase some of the posters personal favorite shows or moments in shows. Has nothing to do with score sheets... I personally found a handful of shows that I loved that didn't make finals last year and a few that I didn't like at all in the top 6. Now I know the performance level of say a5th place corps is much better than say 23rd place but that doesn't mean I don't personally like the 23rd place show better.
  3. Forgot to mention SOA. Love that show! Hoping for it to knock on finals door!
  4. I think the beast is my favorite show that I have seen video of but I am also loving Boston and SCV. Favorite moments though have to be Bluecoats ballad and closer.
  5. Surprised no one has started this thread yet. What shows do you like best from 2018 so far? What are some of your favorite moments?
  6. Yes. In Massillon. And they were on their A game for the most part. I wasn't trying to knock the Cadets...they gave a great class A performance with a killer brass book (and they always do). I should have left the Cadets out of the point I was trying to make.
  7. They had a ton of electricity in 2012 too so pristine and beautiful. I was in Massillon for Inferno and they brought the house down. The brass and visuals were unreal...but ugh the percussion. From what I have seen I really like the beast and it's the front-runner for 2018 so far for me. I love that it's pretty raw and just plain old great music and visuals with little frills...with improved percussion...but the hornline, while fantastic, doesn't seem invincible this year (I am aware the Cadets got the Jim Ott in 2015...which I don't understand... nothing against the Cadets but OMG crown brass)
  8. Yeah! East coast boas or not first corps to crack 80!
  9. As for the comparisons...I find the style of Bluecoats jazz musically to be much closer to 70s and 80s drum corps (of course with some added flash and music tech) than modern day BD. That's what I loved so much about the jagged line... I thought it was the closest I would ever get to seeing that stuff live. The addition of the trombone adds so much to the style too.
  10. This IS the Bluecoats thread...but I agree 2017 was one of my favorite all time BD shows BUT 15 and 16 were SOSDD and 18 appears to be more of the same for BD...but like you I will reserve judgement until I see it live.
  11. Let's get crazy. For the record I am still riding on an earlier season prediction of mine (SCV, BD, Bluecoats) for medals... while this is highly unlikely it's looking not totally impossible. 1. Bluecoats 2. SCV 3. Crown (they are running consistently ahead if Cavies) 4. BD (haha yeah right) 5. Boston (slow climb) 6. Cavaliers 7. BK (last minute push) 8. Cadets 9. Phantom 10. Spirit (oh come on I just like them) 11. Mandarins 12. Academy 13. XMen 14. BS 15. Madison 16. Colts 17. OC 18. Troop 19. PC 20. Music City baby 21. Cascades 22. Genesis 23. Surf 24. Pioneer 3 open class corps make semifinals.
  12. Go Spirit of Atlanta! One of my favorites at the first DCI show I ever saw in Pittsburgh and way to kick the season off in Pittsburgh! Only saw a run through from a couple of weeks ago on the web...but what a fun entertaining program. Can't wait to see you at semifinals! Keep pushing! Hopefully Spirit will make big loud and live and maybe even finals! (PS one of my favorites at finals in 2012 too) EDIT: congratulations on the nonhead to head score debut at 13. A lot of the competition has 2-3 performances in already.
  13. Sorry to offend George. I started this thread because it's fun to predict and speculate...and I see very little bashing here...and absolutely none directed towards the MMs.
  14. From what I heard/saw this show is a powerhouse. I wish them the best this year. I am hoping this is SCVs year!
  15. Watched another video...liked it much better than the first time. I am not that into the opener but man are they good. I haven't warmed up to the presence of the singer yet but I don't hate it. Otherwise other than a few transitions I love the rest of the show. Oh man that trumpet solo in the low range is....wow. I think this is probably their best brass group yet...which is really exciting. Go Bloo!
  16. I have only seen very poor quality videos of bluecoats and crown as well as some snippets of BD, Boston, and Crossmen so far. I would like to think it's a 4 way race for the top...but the Cavies are lurking in the background and can definitely make a push. I still am holding with my preseason prediction of SCV taking it all...and well BD doesn't fall below 2...so... 3 way race for 3rd in that scenario. As for the Cadets. I like them at #8 but think they could easily get 7 or 10. I'd like to see the Mandarins make finals... maybe with Crossmen out? But that's a tough one. Hopefully we are in for a really exciting year?
  17. So all of the top corps have premiered their shows...but many haven't faced head to head. Some minor shake ups but the only major thing I see is the rise of the Mandarins. So for those of you who love to speculate... Are the CA corps a lock for 1 and 2 or is this a 4-6 way battle for the top? I would LOVE an unpredictable top 6. How will the Mandarins do and who will they kick out of the top 12 (looks like Madison right now)? Or will other corps rally and they finish just out of the picture. Who is the major competition for the Cadets? Is is Boston? BK? Phantom? All the changes and crazyiness and they pick up right where they left of in the standings.
  18. Babylon and the bar perfect match I love a good Babylonian bar fight
  19. Yes. Hornline is very crisp and clean with a lot of difficult licks. Very impressive actually especially if they clean it up a lot more. I didn't believe they beat crown in brass last night but seeing admittedly bad videos of both I get it.
  20. Watching a bootleg video I also felt the transitions were rather incohesive. I do get the feel of going from set to set or place to place in a studio where something totally different is going on in each place with hustle and bustle and a rehearsal all in between but I don't know if that's right.
  21. 4th in percussion (crown won percussion) How did this happen? That is likely going to be a 6 after SCV and BD percussion powerhouses premier their shows.
  22. Haven't had a chance to see it but for the record I couldn't get into relentless and everyone else seemed to love it. Inferno, however did grab me at the tour premier.
