I don't live far from a local mall so during winter months I walk over in the morning and do laps inside when the stores are still closed (Mall opens at 6:00 am). During nicer weather I have a number of different routes in my neighborhood.

I think the increased hoarding is being fueled by the all the coverage of hoarding. One of those social behaviors where people see it happening and think "I should be doing that as well!" My heart goes out to the people working in the stores. I looked at the head cashier in the grocery store yesterday and I all I could say was "I really hope you are ok." I wasn't there to buy anything but a couple of beers. Those were in stock. I also feel for all medical personnel having to deal with this. Yesterday they announced that one of the local doctors who had been treating patients tested positive. One of the local food banks just announced they were closing and would do emergency deliveries only. Food banks are there in case of emergency.....

We have been warned many times about something like this by the scientific community. Not an "if" warning, but a "when" - with emphasis on the fact that we need to prepare for the inevitability. The above are perfect examples of how pandemics occurred in the past. We did not learn well from history.

In the '70s we had visitors come to our school who made us eat a lemon-flavored paste to show where plaque existed on our teeth. The areas with plaque would turn yellow. I asked the people who control the Hubble Space Telescope where the center of the universe is. Their response is interesting in that the top 10 answers they provided didn't include any of the usual posters on DCP. What is really interesting is that it is those usual posters who will reply to this comment.
