  1. 7 weeks after this was posted on DCP, Tom Brady went down to a knee injury in the opening game of the season for New England, had surgery and was out for the rest of the season. Patriots were coming off a 19-1 season in 2007 . Some noted NFL TV football analysts opined at the time that Brady's injury was serious enough to likely end his career . (But Brady came back in 2009, played 14 more seasons, won 4 more Super Bowls, and was the NFL's MVP 3 more times ) 2008 was also the season that Phantom Regiment came on strong a few weeks after this DCP post, and caught the Blue Devils on Finals Night to win themselves a DCI Title .
  2. I wish them success and fun in front of their Corps this season. Its quite an honor to be selected as a Drum Major for a Corps.👍
  3. Yes … it’s a new poster to DCP and who knows , could be trolling , but I’d give the poster the benefit of the doubt here in the beginning . The issue has to do with safety and we can never have too much discussion on what needs to be done to maintain and improve on that moving forward in my opinion .
  4. Whatever the show theme is , most fans will probably want to know if anybody die in the end ? 😊
  5. Yes . It is . Ed Denon wrote his version of “ Conquest “ for the Boston Crusaders . It was more of a jazzy version than written by original composer of the song Al Newman for movie Captain of Castile . Denon’s version of the song even incorporated a soprano solo for a few years by BAC soprano soloist Jimmy Centorino . But yes , I did not mean above to imply that Denon was the actual composer of the signature song “ Conquest “ of the Crusaders ( apologize it came across the way) . Denon was the first BAC brass arranger to utilize the song at the Crusaders .
  6. I was going to mention him, but did not know if he was brass arranger there, or brass caption head.
  7. Here is a few names of brass arrangers over the years at the Crusaders ( some others already mentioned.... I think we would have to start with the lergendary brass arranger that was there and wrote the music for BAC in the decade of the 1960's where they first became a national powerhouse ( 1st- 3rd ) among several hundred Drum Corps in the country at the time....... Ed Denon. He was a public school music teacher that wrote " Conquest " first for the Corps, among other early signature songs they are known for in the their earlier years. Ed Denon was there for approx 10- 12 years, and later wrote brass for the Crusaders Srs. ( 1990's ) Jimmy Centorino wrote songs for Boston in 72'- 75. Eric Rosen.... 1980's Robert Smith.... 1980's Tom Lizotte..... 1980's Michael Klesch... mid 1990's Jay Kennedy.... early 2000's to 2011. Ryan George..... 2012 to current. I'm sure I left someone out... but these are a few notables off the top of my head at the moment anyway.
  8. Changes are needed . But for context , DCI corps just came out of an unprecedented pandemic where Corps, people, businesses were shuttered for long stretches . That naturally hurt everyone’s finances . Then interest rates went up , inflation set in , and costs for operation escalated . Given these unprecedented times ( unlike any period since DCI inception in 1972 ) I think it’s actually remarkable that only a handful of corps did not make it thru these last 3-4 years . I’m not minimizing the loss of Corps , nor that DCI really does need to rethink how it does things . I think some changes are already taking place it looks like . Shorter number of shows . Less travel by most corps . Cutbacks on numbers of paid staff and the like . Things that likely needed to be done years ago too I don’t currently subscribe however to the heard assessment that the activity about to die off soon altogether . I suppose it could . But I’m of the opinion that they’ll always be a need in the summers for instruction once the school band rooms shut down for the summers . Something is bound to fill that void , that need , imo . It may not come in the current construct , but they ‘ll likely be summer instruction and summer competition of some form or another . The demand will always be there once the schools close for the summers . That demand will likely have a supply of teachers off for their summers and music students off as well . That’s how I see it anyway . But … who really knows .
  9. I’m pretty sure that the number of marchers in WGI each season exceeds that of the number marchers in DCI each season . It was not always this case . WGI was formed a few years after DCI was formed in 1972 , and the number of units and marchers in DCI back then far exceeded the numbers of units and marchers in WGI. But WGI grew both units and marcher numbers over the years as it expanded into scholastic groups and was far less expensive to operate units and far less expensive for marchers to participate in . So it had a broader reach . I also like how it nurtures the young participants and gives them their due on the bigger stage there in WGI as well .
  10. Yes. its no secret that the Cadets this Fall were essentially in debt with nothing in reserves. So lawyers for the plaintiff victim likely made a strategic, smart move for their client to name DCI itself as an added defendant in their lawsuit. What can we likely expect then in December/ January from DCI itself after notification of being named a defendant seeking among other things.. financial damage compensation to their client in a lawsuit ? Well, my guess, DCI itself will likely respond by distancing themselves as much as possible from this sordid and financial mess by perhaps distancing themselves, and quickly, from the alleged bad behaviors of one of its member Corps. What DCI will do , if anything, on this lawsuit as a defendant, will eventually play out, and the public will know what measures, if any, DCI will take with this as a strategic move recommended by their attorneys.
  11. You could be right. Only time will tell if behind the scenes, SCV new mgt there is still " just meandering along " with the regulators there. One thing that is not in dispute is that SCV as of November was still in delinquency status, as your linked info illustrated earlier.... and the clock is ticking.
  12. I am of the current thinking that SCV will be able to get the state of Calif. to vacate the current delinquency status there with the state. Principally on my belief that Gov't tax officials there in Calif. are likely a bit more favorable there to non profit status organizations there that serve youth, than ( for example ) individuals or for profit businesses. I can see the state of Calif. giving in to " forgiveness " so long as they get the money owed. Its in the state's financial interest SCV not to go belly up, as future dollars dont future flow to the state should SCV be kaput. Calif needs revenue even more than does SCV. Calif. currently is operating at a 68 billion dollar deficit, by far the largest in the history of their state,( or any state for that matter ). On the other hand, should my thinking be inaccurate, and SCV does not rectify this with the state soon after the first of the year, forcing then an embarrassed DCI to step in if SCV declares a 2nd consecutive year of inactivity, I don't anticipate a suspension. I would anticipate a permanent revocation of SCV's DCI membership with that.
  13. Maybe . I wish I knew more about DCi reported involvement according to SCV recent press releases and what they knew and when they knew . DCI will have a lot of “ splainin “ to do if ScV does not make it to the field next summer . On the other hand if they do , some posters on here that spent a lot of man hours on the SCV situation , won’t have a hell of a lot to show for it in the end if SCV returns . It’s interesting to watch this all unfold if nothing else , as there really is not much else of interest to talk about this off season , imo
  14. in 2005, Troopers did not send to DCI Hg., DCI's request for their taxes filed with the IRS for 3 years. DCI BOD voted to suspend the Corps for the 2006 season for that neglect by the Corps Director at the time to forward those documents to DCI Hg, as well as DCI's demand that Corps Director be replaced there by the Troopers BOD at the time as a mandated condition by DCI in order for the Troopers be considered for the return to the field of competition. ( Troopers subsequently complied with that DCI Hg demand, and was approved for the return to the field of competition for 2007 ) So DCI, at least in the past, has not relied on conversations alone between a member Corps and its DCI Hg. to take action DCI deems necessary to take. DCI has even suspended Corps memberships in the past with no known communication between itself and a Corps and/ or Corps Director it has heard complaints about. But in the current situation with SCV, DCI Hg. seems satisfied at the moment with their reported on going discussions with DCI Hg. that the state tax fillings delinquency is on track to be settled in a manner that satisfies both the state of Calif, and DCI itself.... and sufficient enough for SCV to hold auditions and prepare for the season of 2024. What the future holds however is yet to be determined, and with who and what to believe I suppose subject to current discussion and debate.
  15. Yes . It’s been over a month now too . Auditions being held . Last year , the SCV staff were reportedly blindsided by Mgt pulling the plug . This season the staff seems confident they will field , as when the question reportedly came up at auditions , staff told the auditioneers they were definitely fielding next summer . Also last week , a notice even went out on Facebook that auditions for tryouts will be extended for applicants thru the middle of Jan. Is DCI complicit in anything ? I guess only time will tell . But DCI at the moment seems satisfied with SCV ‘s public pronouncements they are making there .
  16. I believe however last season SCV was not in regular discussions with DCI Hq. . I believe Dan A at DCI was not aware that SCV was registering SCV applicants for auditions and when SCV announced they would be taking this past season off , he and the others at DCI seemed blindsided by that . The difference here however insofar as both SCV and DCI is concerned , SCV in their press release in the fall specifically mentioned that they have been working alongside DCI to get their financials in order . Absent any new update from DCI in a press release , it has to be assumed that as far as DCI Hq. Is concerned , SCV is currently doing what needs to be done to rectify things sufficient enough to make it out to the field again next summer . Thats my sense anyway . Now , on the other hand , if SCV replicates last season’s fiasco , then my guess , SCV is likely finished for good , as I can’t imagine DCI putting up with any repeat of that ..
  17. I suppose we all do. Those marcher applicants at recent SCV auditions were told by staff there that all systems are go and that the Corps will " definitely field " next summer. SCV press releases also state that DCI Hq has been in frequent discussions with SCV and apparently DCI Hq seems satisfied with the info provided to them sufficient enough to not put them on probation nor has there been any public notice of current concern by DCI Hg. What/who to believe ? I don't pretend to know the answer to that. I guess only time will tell.
  18. That's a wrap on callback camp! This weekend,... - Boston Crusaders | Facebook
  19. I listened to the full broadcast just now and thought it was a good listen . I found the observations and assessments by the 3 of BAC’s top 10 shows over the years and the comments made on the podcast ( even when on occasion a bit salty in language ) pretty fair and accurate on the whole . Enjoyed listening to the 3 and their take .
  20. Speaking of the Crusaders, Sr. Corps, and in keeping with the spirit of the holiday season, below are " 3 knuckleheads " trumpets at the Crusaders " Jingle Jam " just a couple of years back. Featured is trumpet Mike Pantanella of the Crusaders Sr's. He put this quickly together, and it turned out pretty good, imo... 2nd half Mike can't seem to keep the other 2 in line that want to apparently steal the limelight.....😊
