Here is another sports analogy that I think applies to drum corps, Blue Devils continued success and winning championships, and what could possibly happen if another corps takes over Blue Devils and becomes the dominant force for X amount of years: Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes Petronas in Formula One. From 2014 - 2021, Mercedes won the Constructors (Team) Championship a whopping 8 times in a row. Lewis Hamilton the Drivers' Championship 6 of those 8 years. The other two years he came in 2nd place overall. The amount of hate and spew that came from people towards Lewis and Mercedes was absolutely wild. Mercedes DOMINATED Formula One for that entire 8 year span. Then Max Verstappen came along with Red Bull and ended Lewis Hamilton's reign as World Driver's Champion in 2021. In 2022, Red Bull and Max Verstappen won both Drivers' and Constructors (Team) titles. Of the 22 races in 2022, Red Bull won 17 of those races. Max won 15 of the 22 races. That is more than 60% of the races last year. 60%! Fast forward to this current 2023 season. Of the 11 races ran thus far, Red Bull have won ALL OF THEM. Max Verstappen has won 9 of those races, including the past 6 races. People on F1 boards, Reddit, etc are moaning and groaning about Max/Red Bull continuing to win. They want someone else to win. They rant and moan about F1 being boring right now. They want Lewis Hamilton to win again. When Lewis got pole position in the last race, social media went nuts for him taking pole position. In a good way! So what is the TDLR here? People are tired of Blue Devils winning. Just like people were tired of Mercedes winning. What happens if Crown, Bluecoats or BC become dominant and start winning continuously like BD? Will people scream from the rafters like they do with Red Bull continuing to dominate the past two years? Human nature says yes. Absolutely. Thats all 🙂

This topic has gone from informative, entertaining, philosophical, to downright stupid. It's unreal how some people just won't accept the fact that others are allowed and entitled to have their own opinions without being lambasted. That goes for both sides of the Blue Devlis argument.

I know you aren't asking me, but I was not a fan of Babylon. I do though think they deserved to win.

My cocktail brother, I never alluded to or implied that you said BD should not have won any of their titles. With that being said, I would like more clarity from you as to why you believe that a single corps winning 60% of the time is a problem? Why do you believe that to be factual? Because you didn't say "The fact that BLUE DEVILS wins 60% of the time is a problem...", is it safe to assume that you have a problem with ANY corps winning 60% of the time? Even if it was Crown?

Listen pal. While I appreciate the fact that you know your cocktails and such (I work at very well-known cocktail bar in the US), it seems to me that you are trying to impose your opinion of Blue Devils on those who have a different opinion. We get it. You don't like Blue Devils. Fine. No problem. However, I think you are getting to the point of being overconfident of your opinion and thinking that the vast majority of drum corps land has the same opinion as you. You are more than welcome to opine on why you think the judges got the past X DCI champions wrong, but the reality is that your opinion...is just your opinion. It's neither right or wrong. With that being said, the opinions of others (including @Cappybara) are their own opinions and they are entitled to it. I happen to be a fan of Blue Devils (mostly by default, as my father is a FMM from the mid-80s), but I don't presume to think that everyone else SHOULD hold the same viewpoints on Blue Devils or anyone for that matter. In fact, I don't really care if people agree or disagree with my viewpoints! Yes, I am snarky. Yes, I call it like I see it. Yes, I sometimes don't have a filter. But what I do almost obsessively is respect the opinions of others. You seem to be obsessed with pointing out how the opinions of others are wrong. You seem like a well-adjusted, educated and decent human being. However in this case, and throughout the duration of this thread, you are making it clear about your disdain for the Blue Devils in a way that is not a good look. So, continue on with your mantra if you want! I just wanted to take a few minutes and call you out on your disrespect to others for having an opinion different than yours.
