  1. I have 20 brand new in the box Yamaha full vest tenor carriers. Model #RM-AVQL. These are the same carriers that the Cadet's used this past summer! You can also use these as snare carriers. Brand new these sell for over $250 asking $125 obo plus shipping. Also for sale is a Adams 4.6 artist series rosewood marimba with field frame. It is 3 years old and in mint condition. Studio kept and never used outside. This is a special order insturment that retails at $18,965. You can buy one new through Steve Weiss or percussion source for $12,011 plus shipping. Asking $7900 obo. Please email with any questions or if you would like to see pictures. If you are in the Denver area I would be happy to show you the stuff. Mark Gonnerman mtgpercussion@yahoo.com
  2. What was the reasoning for DCI in the first place to get rid of the DIV 2/3 Corps in the DIV 1 Finals structure after it had been that way for over 20 years? You can't say it was because of ticket sales at the DIV 2/3 Shows. What they have done IMO is set up finals week so even less people will go see the "Open Class Corps" When I marched that what you did on Tuesday and Wed. Now they put them early in the morning of the "World Class Shows" and even less people go. And yes I think what you do on the field should be what matters not how you tour. EX: Spartans could do a big national tour if they wanted and do it better than most all "World Class Corps" But they don't want to and that should be up to them. I just think they should be able to compete agianst the "WORLD CLASS CORPS" like they could for over 20 years. Mark
  3. I think Div 2/3 died when they were not allowed to compete with Div 1. I remember WAY BACK IN THE DAY when I marched 98-99 that they could earn their way into the Div 1 finals structure and knock out Div 1 Corps. EX. Magic 2000 going all the way to finals as a Div 2 corps. I wish that they would bring back that system because there are a lot of "open class corps" that are better than some of the "world class corps" which makes the titles "OPEN and WORLD" look stupid. EX: If Spartans could beat Pioneer in a contest then why should you call Pioneer "WORLD CLASS" if the lower "OPEN CLASS" is clearly better? I am not trying to knock any drumcorps down but that is how it used to be. In 99 there were 4 or 5 Div 2/3 corps in quarter finals. Changing the name of the classes doesn't change the structure of the compitition and there for doesn't matter. How many years were the "lower class corps" allowed to make their way into Div 1 final's structure? I will give you the answer (A LOT) There was a time when the top 21 was something special and the A60 and A90 Corps could make their way in. To me this is just another way for DCI to protect the lower placing "World Class Corps" from getting their feelings hurt by the low level non competent "Open Class Corps." (note the sarcasim) Lets compete on a level playing field and make every corps responsible for what it brings to the table. Well enough of my rambling, lets see what other people think. Will drum corps ever be about music agian instead of GE, (I can only hope) Mark Gonnerman
  4. These fees are insane. I marched in 98 and 99. Not even 10 years ago. Boston 98 $400, Southwind 99 $600. I just don't see how tour fees have gone up 3x to 4x in less than 10years. IMO this is stopping a lot of talented kids that don't plan on doing music for a living from marching drum corps. When I marched there were a lot of hard street kids still marching. Congrats to everyone for making this an activity for the rich. Look back 10 to 15 years and see how many drum corps there were. These drum corps are folding because they have out priced the normal person and only rich music majors (for the most part) are marching now. How many of you march with people that live in housing projects? I thought this was a activity to help youth grow and learn life skills through music. A lot of drum corps were started to help the kids of lower income neighborhoods. It is a shame that a really talented kid that lives in the projects can't march due to tour fees being 1/5 of the family's income for the year. Enough of my ranting. Lets start affordable neighborhood drum corps agian. Mabey even start a new organization to rule them because we have seen that DCI is only concerned in having super corps limiting the kids the activity reaches and the kids that need it most. Peace, Mark
  5. Some of this may of been talked about awhile ago. http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...c=71264&hl= http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...71264&st=10
  6. I am a drummer so here is mine 1. Star 93 2. Cadets 87 3. Crossmen 97 4. Crossmen 98 5. BD 97 6. BK 95
  7. You said it would be a huge financial burden for Bill Cook. Ha ha. Last time I saw the forbes 400 he had like $400 million. Bill throwing out $1-4 million is like the average $40,000 a year person giving $100-$400 out. I don't think it would put any strain on his budget. Also the company's that were formed to make money for star (Bus, Travel and others) still operate today helping fund other programs under the star name. So I don't think money is any issue here.
  8. I saw BD's Trucks driving east through Iowa on Saturday. Must be going to meet up with them on the east coast somewhere. Thought it was intersting. Mark
  9. Just wanted everyone to know that if you ever need a long ranger or any replacement parts order from anyone but McCormick's out of IL. I ordered 2 replacement batterys and was told they would come in 5 days that was May 27th. Hey they came today June 13th. I called and asked what happened and they gave me the run arround about how they went to the wrong address and had to be reshiped. When they reshiped they didn't over night it they sent it ground agian. Any way all that was a lie because they charged my credit card on June 6th and that was the ship date. So I told them the the long rangers needed to be shipped to the drum corps that they were being repaired for and they expected them 2 weeks ago and if they paid for the over night shipping on the long rangers that would make me feel better about the whole thing. They said that they would not but could give me my $8 ship price back on the batteries that were shipped. This was a $200 order and all they wanted to do was $8. All this came from the president of the company. I told him I would tell every person I could not to do business with them. He said that was fine and it was not worth the $50 I requested to do the overnight ship on a first time customer. SO DON"T BUY ANY THING FROM McCormicks Band Supplies out of IL Here is a short web list of their competors www.lectrosonics.com Right from the factory www.kanryderfielddrills.com www.auctionschools.com www.waltonauctionsite.com www.bandshoppe.com Thank you, Mark
