  1. A true thank you to DCI and Tom Blair for the effort they put into this broadcast. The story on the BD family was awesome. I appreciated the directors' insight into how modern day drum corps is designed, even if a certain director "hung" himself during his piece. The brief history behind each featured corps was informative without being overbearing and gave you an idea of how each corps has evolved from inception. As for the show snipets, sure I'd like full shows, but I'll just have to wait to get the dvds for Christmas. And Steve Young at DCI, how cool is that, especially for us Niner fans? All in all, I liked this design much better than the prior ESPN2 years. It's free, it's nationally broadcast on a giant network, and it serves it's purpose. Keep it up DCI, you're doing just fine. hornline, no need to post, got you covered.
  2. I don't think they had actual numbers. I think when Mr. Blair put together the video several weeks ago, he/DCI/Rondinaro knew there were no less than 30,000 in the stands, so they just threw that number out there. Doesn't DCI usually release the attendance figures anyway? Being there it certaintly looked closer to 40,000.
  3. The Velvet Knights owe me money... j/k :P Seriously, can't wait for the '08 edition of VK. 2 COOL
  4. Audience reaction: "That Hooters corps can really blow!" (couldn't resist) Seriously though, I don't see any real reason corporate sponsers would be a bad idea. YEA is a corporation of sorts, and Spirit is "sponsored" by JSU. I don't think DCI would go for it...unless of course there was something in it for them.
  5. So, while my family and I were waiting to drive away from finals, the question arose as to why there are so many corps with the name "Blue' attached: Devils, coats, Knights, Stars, Saints, etc. Why? I know there were a few "Emerald", "Black" and "Golden" corps in the past. Where do the colors come from? Enlighten me.
  6. VK looked a lot like the Velvet Knights...
  7. If Hop doesn't pull those "kids" off the field for hash marks, NO ONE BOOS!!! I didn't hear any boos as they entered the field the FIRST time. Things got ugly when George stopped the show and poked us in the audience with a stick one too many times. His fault, his fault, his fault...get it!?! Please let the 2008 season come quickly so we can forget about this madness.
  8. An early July West coast regional. Corps that should always attend: BD, SCV, Mandarins, BK, Cascades, Troopers, Pacific Crest, Academy, maybe Xmen. That's 9 top flight d1 corps, and why not invite some Eastern corps to come out every other year or so. Since finals will be in Indy for the next tenth of a century, this would be a good way for the West to remain semi-relevant. Not to mention it would be a pretty kick-arse show.
  9. Bring back the 60-second warmup! To me, as a fan in the stands, the elimination of asking the judges if they're ready is fine, but there is definitely an awkward "when did the show start" feeling when a corps starts playing before the presenting announcement. Um, what was wrong with the "old" way?
  10. Phantom Vanguard Crown Don't remember the rest off hand.
  11. I myself would rather see a better showing of corps from West of Denver. If there was an early season regional, before San Antonio, like back in the DCI Pacific days, here's a list of who should attend nearly every time: Blue Devils Santa Clara Vanguard Mandarins Pacific Crest Blue Knights Seattle Cascades The Academy Troopers Esperanza (if they return) Crossmen (possibly) VK (presumably a div.1 sometime in the next decade) That's already 9 or 10 corps, half of which are finalist contenders, without asking anyone to make that long expensive trip. If this "Western Regional" became an every year event, perhaps we would get 2 or 3 of the Eastern corps to come out once in a while. That would make for a very nice regional. We could have a mid-July divII/III regional as well, using just those West of the Rockies: BDB SCV Cadets Fever Gold Impulse VK (for now) Oregon Crusaders Spokane Thunder Jester Mystical BDC Stockton Bucs (positive thinking) Revolution (possibly) My point is, the East coast corps will come out here sparingly over the next decade just like they always have, so why not make the best with what we've got here in the "West". For those that are counting, that's 17 corps without leaving the states that border the Pacific. West is best indeed.
  12. BD: Hurricane & the waving diagonal with the drum line weave. Crown: Front push, front line splits and rotates for fences, then reconnects for company front. Bloo: Guard laser manuevers SCV: I called it the funnel move. When the horn line was coming together from the backfield and sort of "funneling" from lines into a block formation. Pioneer: Cymbals (3 of them) marched to the front sideline and did the Captain Morgan pose. Priceless. Many more, just not coming to me so quickly.
  13. I wish they would bring back (though it's only been a year) the full 3/4 cd set of d1 corps. Downloads are easy, but not when it comes to playing them in your vehicle.
  14. I've got one whole tube and several partially eaten tubes of minty Mentos left. The Mentos car (Saturn Sky roadster) was pretty cool. The Mentos Misses weren't to hard on the eyes either.
  15. I heart Vanguard. To me, them and Phantom should have beat Cavies finals night. They were both en fuego.
  16. Damnmit Ryan, there you go again, putting valid, thought provoking, positive ideas for the activity out there for us numbskulls to hope for. To the point of D2/3 dying, I feel the contrary. This was the first year I was able to go to an August d2/3 show, and they all blew me away. I was thinking during both Spartan's and Surf's shows "why aren't these guys div.1?" Not to mention the resurgence of Fever, the quick rise of Memphis and Revolution, and what has become a hot bed in SoCal for d2/3 corps. Should they be div. 1? Well under a different system, why can't they be? Ryan, when you become head of both the Drum Corps Announcers Board and the ADCC (Advancement of Drum Corps Committee), sign me up as an advocate.
  17. All those having no soul... (raises hand) All those having no brain... (has friend raise my hand)
  18. Their rendition of Flower Duet might be my favorite ballad of all time. Brilliant show.
