  1. But compared to the corps who are threatening them (Academy and Spirit), I personally think all three show designs are comparable.
  2. They've pretty much had crappy draws most of the season so far, oftentimes performing first in their block. Now that post-San Antonio shows will have performance order based on San Antonio finishes, let's see if their luck changes in that regard.
  3. I agree with your points about the strength of SCVC's program, but not in a discussion about 12th place, which this thread was originally about. In terms of the discussion about 15-17th place, I absolutely think Vanguard Cadets have a very good chance of being in there and knocking one of the current 15-17 corps down a spot.
  4. If it's any consolation, all the scream/not scream discussion began AFTER the show concluded. DURING the show there was actual discussion about the corps who performed.
  5. Oh I think that’s a great draw for Phantom. They’re on after the intermission. Based on yesterday’s performances, I think Phantom needs to be more concerned about staying ahead of Mandarins than overtaking BS or Cadets.
  6. Ive been in this activity for over 30 years and totally agree that inappropriately-timed shouting/yelling has ALWAYS been there. Off the top of my head, I recall 1990 Star of Indiana at finals. During one of the quietest tension-building moments, a few guys in the crowd in unison shout “OH MY GOD THE BABY’S BURNING!” Also, kudos on refraining from murder at the symphony. I attend the theater regularly and have the same urge to kill over people (who always seem to sit near me) crinkling plastic wrappers, fiddling with their paper playbills, or crunching their souvenir bag. I think I need to bring along fidget spinners with me and hand them out to these folks.

  8. I think standing ovations for every corps, which someone bemoaned earlier in this thread, should be WAY down at the very bottom of that list.
  9. Nope, not even close to peaking. As someone who has watched Mandarins’ show many times, it was clear to me that they have made a significant number of changes to their show both visually and musically, including several changes to their brass book. So it’s not as if the members have been trying to clean but can’t—they’re simply learning new content and readjusting to it now. The staff knows the season is a marathon and not a sprint, and a lot of cleaning occurs on tour over just a couple weeks.
  10. Allen almost ALWAYS judges during championships. It's just a question of which of the three shows.
  11. We'll have to disagree there, as do the judges. Mandarins and Blue Stars are trading ordinals on content scores. LAST year's show was designed to get them into finals. This show was designed to have meat.
  12. I think it's a cleaning issue. Mandarins are adding to and making changes to their show, so I imagine they're not finding the time to clean yet. Three more weeks on tour can make a world of difference there.
  13. And can we FINALLY bury the west coast inflation myth for good? (I know, I know...I won't hold my breath)
  14. Hat safety aside, what a year for the Mandarins when they can say they're less than 3 points behind The Cadets!
  15. Is this the first dome show this season? If so, it would explain a lot of the small tears I've been hearing tonight. This is the first time this season these performers are hearing each other with the dome echo.
  16. Agreed. I expect they're going to be a solid, lone corps in 7th in Indy.
  17. Heck of a lot better than Minneapolis. I was appalled that they won guard at that show. They're much stronger today.
  18. I'm surprised anyone even dares watch multi-cam this early in the season when it's on-the-fly editing. Of COURSE it's going to suck.
  19. Based on TONIGHT'S performances? Stars, Phantom, Mandarins, Crossmen, Scouts.
  20. There is literally no compelling reason to costume the guard (or corps proper) in all green. They simply disappear into the field. It's a terrible design choice.
  21. Haha, I don't think Cadets have anything to worry about TONIGHT. I get the feeling that wasn't a SUPER good run by the Mandarins today. But by Indy, who knows. After Allentown I think you'll have a better idea of whether or not you need to start seasoning your hat!
