  1. So.....I was checking my email and much to my delight DCA sent me an email for a DCA Fan Survey. From DCA: We're Listening! DCA Launches Survey of Fans and Participants Drum Corps Associates today launched a survey to learn about the experiences of DCA fans and participants, while also gaining insight into who currently attends, participates in and support all-age drum corps events. Nice to know one of the drum corps circuits cares what it's current fan base thinks...... thoughts ???
  2. I remember those days I am really looking forward to the TOS show again in 2008. The last two TOS shows were amazing......and second to none in drum corps variety...
  3. My favorite opening hit from that year.......
  4. I really hope its Madison. But I am going to say The Academy.........
  5. QUOTE (Triple Forte @ Jan 14 2008, 10:55 PM) * Narration has been a complete flop just by the sheer lack of use. ... Marching bands (As you know) have been using them for many, MANY years now. My comment in reference to narration being a "flop" has to do with how often it has been used......not the content itself Some numbers, Using the DCI member corps as an example, since narration was legalized (In 2004), 15 corps/shows have used it and 78 have not. Not to popular......... And you handily left out an important part of my comment regarding narration and amps in marching band. I said there is nothing innovative about narration and amps in the marching music arena, because marching bands have been using them for years......
  6. This is where we disagree. (Which is fine of coarse ) Improvements is definitely a matter of personal opinion. My thoughts? Amps and narration have added nothing to the activity except expenses to a corps operating costs. Narration has been a complete flop just by the sheer lack of use. How many corps have used narration in their shows since the rule passed? A minority or majority of the corps? And believe me, amps and narration are far from innovative. Marching bands (As you know) have been using them for many, MANY years now. Bb........give me three examples of how replacing g horns with Bb's has made drum corps better? Don't give examples like "They produce a better sound", because that is a matter of opinion. Many (Including some top corps brass caption heads) would tell you they prefer the G's to the Bb's.
  7. Everyone would like things to go their way. But when something is not going my way, I listen and observe closely why it is not going my way. And just maybe, it shouldn't go my way........... Do you know his motivations? I don't. So for all we know he could have very strong ulterior motives. All I am saying is that it is a possibilty. Until I know.....I won't "Drop it" (If you don't mind) from the discussion...... Torqued off ??? Take a breath..............
  8. Maybe he does. But just maybe he has ulterior motives. That is possible too......isn't it? I don't think he "LIVES" with anything. He appears to be driven (Seems to be to the point of obsession) to have it his way all the time. That's not good......IMO.
  9. QUOTE (Triple Forte @ Jan 9 2008, 09:38 PM) If you don't like the way something is.......changing it to your liking may not be the answer. Maybe it would be better to spend time creating your own activity.....that way all of your dreams will come true. I want drum corps.....just as I want marching band. I see no reason at all why these two activities can't have their unique differences. I like more choices than less......simple.....isn't it ? I think it is safe to say that believing drum corps has improved is a matter of opinion. Some items about the activity are better......some are not.....IMO. As of right now he is leading the charge.
  10. Well.....he did create the largest marching band circuit (USSBA) from scratch......so I think it is possible......
  11. I think that Mr. Hopkins should seriously consider starting his own version of the drum corps activity. It is obvious he does not like DC in its current form. After submiting a pile of changes over the past two years it is obvious he has a very different vision of the way drum corps is and the way it should be. I can honestly say that I have not agreed with any of his proposals. I realize that many member corps have voted for his proposals, but I really wonder how many of these same people would submit these changes....... If you don't like the way something is.......changing it to your liking may not be the answer. Maybe it would be better to spend time creating your own activity.....that way all of your dreams will come true. Sorry for any typos
  12. Thanks Tim Kviz and the Blue Stars. Its nice to know that someone on the inside is considering a lot of fans opinions regarding amps and narration............
  13. Thats a great question. I hope (of coarse) that it happens again this year.....even though my favorite show (1986 Devils) doesn't have much of a chance to make it........again If the countdown does happen again this year, could everyone do me a favor. Don't vote for performances we have seen already. There are soooo many great shows out there without having to see a repeat. I know 1980 was awesome but....so were many other years in the 1980's..............
  14. My favorite DCI year is 1986. The corps may not have been as technically tight as they are today, but there was so much variety, wide range of styles and great music from those 12 corps. Not to mention it includes my favorite DCI show of all......the 1986 Blue Devils. When looking at the responses so far it is obvious that I am almost alone in my choice. I doubt I will every see a 1986 corps in the DCI Countdown List Oh....BTW....I have my original VHS tape of the 1986 PBS broadcast......and play parts of it a couple of times a month. Its been played a million times........
  15. Its not like your identity is oozing all over the place..... As far as the Cadets plan for 2008......its always a wait and see for me. But.....I think it is pretty safe to say they will be exploring narration again...and that I am not looking forward to. Hope the hornline can match last seasons line.....they were probably the best line the corps every had
  16. I think they are also trying to legitimize themselves with HS and college band directors who are more high brow and don't buy in to the idea that drum corps is a serious place for music.
  17. I am sure you are aware Mike (Just as I am) the days of calling our activity "Drum and Bugle corps" (At least in DCI) are limited. Can you hear it.....the clock is ticking.
  18. I am a customer of DCI. I think I can point out something I may not agree with. Sorry, I don't automatically fall in love with every change and decision DCI and its members corps make. I know the customers of the company I work for have no trouble expressing their concerns.
  19. You forgot a small piece (Unless you have a different dictionary). Conductor: A person who conducts; leader I would certainly call a PR drum major a leader
  20. Its bothers me because these words are being used incorrectly. At best they are mis-leading, and could possibly confuse potential members who may think of joining a drum corps. The words "age-out" and "instructor(s)" fit perfectly. Why the need to change them? BTW.....I am not sitting here in raging state on this...... I just don't like it.
