  1. For the longest time while I was in high school watching drum corps videos with friends, we always thought someone had yelled "Oh my gosh the baby's burning!!!" but later realized that it was "gravy" not "baby." Must be some sort of corny reference to Belshazzar's Feast... :P
  2. So whats everyone's favorite? And why? I love 1999's Empire of Gold... one of my all-time favorite drum corps shows. Both Glassmen and SCV '99 are the shows I saw live that year that made me want to march.
  3. I can hum all of 01 Cavies on the spot... I loved Four Corners... but other than the counting out loud chant thing, I don't remember anything musically from '02. Frameworks still doesn't do it for me.
  4. The one thing that always annoyed me about Finale was writing for percussion. I know several people who are top perc writers for marching band who ended up having to take classes to really get it. I also started with Encore back in the day and then moved over to Finale. I use both now, depending on what I'm doing. One thing I do love about Sibelius, though, is their Scorch program for users who don't have the full version of Sibelius. It has helped immensely in planning out field shows...
  5. You definitely fall in love with West Chester after a while, with all its quaint shops and amazing restaraunts downtown (just a few blocks from the university), and then a 60 drive outside of town (down South New Street, past South Campus) makes you feel like you're in the country somewhere... I loved West Chester when I started college, then sort of questioned if it was the right kind of place for me halfway through my 4 years, but now the longer I'm there, the more I want to stay forever. Kurt - I was there to see SCV beat Phantom that night, you guys definitely deserved it... Muskegon, MI had to be my favorite small town stop... we stayed at Reeths-Puffer HS (great marching band program) with Bluecoats in 2000, and did a parade there. Extremely friendly people and similar to West Chester in its quaint downtown atmosphere with "the country" just outside of town... I believe that was the show where the sops lined the stadium field instead of our practice field by mistake, they were announced as the "All-Star Field Lining Crew" as we marched onto the field, lol.
  6. I watched the Cavaliers rehearse on Tuesday at Northern York High School, and the staff did say that they are putting about 10 or 12 more sets onto the end of the show soon.
  7. Good thing we didn't hear that in the hornline...
  8. yeah they did have a good show that season... the guard at bluecoats was really sweating over Southwind in 2000... they ended up beating us in guard in the end... I remember hearing "You hear that? that's Southwind's guard on your ###!" often... :P
  9. Michael Haydn's Trumpet Concerto is gorgeous...
  10. All of the baritones (first and second parts) used Shilke 51D's at Bluecoats when I marched in 2000, they used them a few years before, and a few years after. Not sure if they still are, but when I got home from tour I couldn't put that thing away. Worked awesome on bari and trombone when I got back too. Gives your lips a workout, but after you adjust playing with that mouthpiece rocks.
  11. the flat 7 chord resolving to the tonic is a classic favorite...
  12. That depends - what is your conspiracy theory over the Scouts' win?
  13. Vanguard 1971 (Henry V) Vanguard 1985 (Festive Overture) Vanguard 1987 (Russian Christmas Music) Vanguard 1989 (Phantom of the Opera) Vanguard 1999 (The Canyon) Vanguard 2000 (Prayers of Kierkegaard No. 4) Star 1991 (Roman Festivals) Madison 1993 (Numero Uno) Madison 1995 (El Toro Caliente) Glassmen 1999 (Whatever it was, it was awesome) Cavaliers 1992 (Gavorkna) Cavaliers 1995 (Mars) Cavaliers 2000 (Niagra Falls)
  14. I thought the white Blue Knights guard unis in 2000 were really... hot. Plus, the white with blue trim contrasted and fit well with the corps black and blue with white trim corps uniforms. But mostly, they were just hot that year. Always loved competing at shows with the Blue Knights...
