  1. Amy & Tom The Cabs are looking forward to our pilgrimage to Reading, and Albright Stadium. Make sure there is a funnel cake with my name on it.
  2. Well it's nice to see Mike & Roger keeping up on the contest count down. Did you know that Kane Stadium had been the sight of many drum corps contests during the 70's & 80's. Did you know that this will be the last time to see the Sunrisers make it back on the field this year & Fusion Core one of the front runners to win the A class crown. Did you know that the Circus is coming to town Bushwacker style. Did you know that the 9 time DCA World Champion Hawthorne Caballeros will lay it on the line for the last time this year in New Jersey. You never have to worry that they will bring their A Game, you don't want to miss them in late August form. and when you add in, Brass, Golden Eagles and the Latin Express what a great night of drum corps. Get your tickets now!

  4. You call that running, Frank has two rookies pushing him around.
  5. Stadiums that gave me goose bumps when I step on the field. Roosevelt stadium Jersey City (dust and all) Memorial stadium Baltimore Memorial Stadium Cleveland Giant Stadium both for a contests and Giant games. Yankee Stadium Cumberland Md )not so much of a great stadium but one of the best crowds to play for. Kennedy stadium Bridgeport. Manning Bowl Lynn MA Just to name a few. Frontier Field ? Tom I’m not sure from what perspective it was great, if you were on the field the up close and personal relationship a corps likes to play for surely was not their. As a spectator I was on the 50 half way up the stands and I watched Jimmy cut the corps to end a number and 5 seconds later the music stopped. But the white hotts were great.
  6. Golden Eagles will be at the Kiwanis Open, presented by the Hawthorne Caballeros Aug 22, 2009 being held at Kean Stadium In Secaucus, NJ
  7. This takes nothing away from the Bucs amazing run over the past 4+ years. But to match up corps records from the 70’s * 80’s may not hold to much water. Corps had many more contests in the past, if I’m not mistaken and I’m sure John will correct me but seasons started in May back in the day and having Saturday & Sundays back to back shows were commen place. I remember seeing a schedule on Cos’s door with as many as 17 contests a year. During the 84, 85 run 14 + contests a year was our schedule which is another reason why it was so hard to go undefeated.
  8. We have been in negotiations with the WWE & UFC but may have to pull out, we could not find bellbottom Speedo’s
  9. WITH ALL OF THE CORPS IN END OF THE SEASON FORM The Hawthorne Caballeros and The Kiwanis Club of Secaucus Presents The First Annual Kiwanis Open Saturday August 22, 2009 At Kean Stadium, Secaucus, NJ Starting at 7:00 PM In competition: Sunrisers, Long Island, NY Fusion Core, Dover, NJ Bushwackers, Harrison, NJ Caballeros, Hawthorne, NJ In Exhibition The Latin Express The Golden Eagles, Mini Corps And More Tickets $18 – Reserved Seating $15 – General Admission
  10. For the record the Cabs have been going every weekend since the first week of April. We also have the most contests on our schedule in the DCA. Practice weekends are great but they don’t hold a candle to being in front of a crowd every weekend and getting feed back from the judging community. The practice of a week off in the middle of the season is something new to the Caballeros. I can tell you I wish we had done it years ago because I have been in some great corps that were just burnt out by the end of the season. The NFL has a by week and we have one weekend off a summer. But you can find us in a contest near you on the 8/1, 8/8, 8/15, 8/22 & 8/29 and maybe we will even compete DCA weekend. Congrats to the Hurcs & the Bucs we look forward to seeing them MBI, Empire and Bush in Scranton get your tickets now it’s going to be q great show. Gone Fishing Al Katz
  11. We can't wait to hit bean town, Roger send me the address for Woodman's It sound like a Sunday Lunch must do. Ok Uncle Allen is it true that you have a baby seat in the truck cab with you? Looking forward to seeing all of our Statesmen freinds.
  12. The 45th Drum Corps Grand Prix is history and we could not have done it without the stellar performance from the staff of the Passaic County Technical Institute. Being a new venue we know that we had some bumps in the road, more rest room facilities and going back to numbered seats are the first on our agenda. But you could not have ask for a more beautiful campus to run a drum corps show. I have been told we used over twelve hundred parking spaces and all I can say is where did we all park at Clifton Stadium? Having said that many people asked why did we make a change this year, parking was a big factor and plan and simple financial considerations were another. To the very few who tried to make waves that the Caballeros were thrown out of Clifton, it’s now time for you to find another rumor to start. Clifton Stadium had been the home of the Grand Prix for more than 38 years and is part of the History of the contest and the Caballeros. We are very grateful for all of the years we worked with the wonderful staff of the Clifton Board of Education and who knows some day we may return to that great stadium. Thank you to all that attended and congratulations the Reading Buccaneers. Mark your calendar July 10, 2010 the 46 Annual Drum Corps Grand Prix is only 362 days away.
  13. In 12 hours it will be show time, see you all in Wayne NJ 45th Annual Drum Corps Grand Prix.
  14. Liz you have 789 parking spots to pick from. You ask for it and here it is. Ex Sky Chorus 6:45 Ex Park City Pride 6:50 Ex Sky Alumni 7:10 Ex Sunrises 7:30 1 Bushwackers 7:47 2 Hurricanes 8:04 3 Buccaneers 8:21 4 Caballeros 8:38 Ex Cabs Alumni 8:55 Combined Corps 9:15 Retreat 9:25 Awards
  15. Can’t wait for the show, my only problem with going to Reading is I’m at the practice field all day long and I still come home with credit card bills from the outlets. I have to leave the wife home this year.
  16. Congratulations to Mama & Papa Bruni from your friends at the Caballeros. Don’t worry David the sleepless nights will only last until Jasmin is 45.

  19. Allen Best of luck with the show this weekend, I''ll have to wait for my garbage plate at championships. To be honest I don't miss the ride, but I will miss your hospitality.
  20. The Caballeros are on this planet to compete, without competition we have no reason exist. We as DCA corps need to do what ever possible to make sure we put it on the line every weekend. Corps members pay dues and it is our job to make sure they get the best bang for their buck. It is only in the last few years have we given a week off during the season and we have found that it energizes our membership to get through a very busy season. WE have 9 contest this year. For the record Empire has not been able to make the Wildwood show the last few years because in NY state that weekend fell on graduations weekend and region exams. It had nothing to do with money. The Grand Prix has not changed it’s ticket pricing in over five years. Last year we had 13 corps performing which included The Bucs, Hurcs, Empire, Bush & the Cabs and eight exhibitions and would you believe we sold fewer tickets last year then the year before. The season is only 10 weeks long, as a show sponsor we hope that the money we make running our contests will help us subsidies the cost to go to competitions every weekend. I don’t think corps should bankrupt themselves to go to a contest, but in the same vain they need to understand most of the contestS are being run as a fundraiser by the show sponsor.
  21. Press Release – Hawthorne Caballeros Grand Prix Competition – June 19, 2009 Hawthorne Caballeros 45th Annual Drum Corps Grand Prix - July 11, 2009 New Location! Passaic County Technical Institute, Wayne, NJ The Hawthorne Caballeros will host their 45th annual Drum Corps Grand Prix on Saturday, July 11th, 2009 at 6:15 p.m. at our new location, Passaic County Technical Institute, 45 Reinhardt Road, In Wayne, NJ. The Grand Prix is a major Drum Corps competition in the New Jersey area with participating groups from all over the East Coast. The competitors in the event will be judged as part of the 2009 DCA (Drum Corps Associates) season with several awards, including the Drum Corps Grand Prix Champion, up for the taking. American Legion Post #199 from Hawthorne, NJ is the proud sponsor of the Drum Corps Grand Prix. The Hawthorne Caballeros have a fascinating history based on a North American tradition and a future that is committed to the performing arts, youth education and entertainment. Since 1946, Hawthorne, New Jersey has been the home of World Champion Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps. Founded by Hawthorne resident Jim Costello, the Caballeros were originally comprised of veterans returning from the Second World War. Costello introduced the Latin style of music and dress that began the Spanish tradition that continues in today’s Caballeros. In fact, the Caballeros still dress in the same uniform introduced by Jim Costello in the early years of the drum and bugle corps. Today, drum and bugle corps’ are a worldwide community with the Hawthorne Caballeros recognized as the most famous drum and bugle corps in the world. Modern drum and bugle corps are entertainers and fierce – but friendly – competitors. Competing Corps include the Sunrisers from Long Island, NY, the Hurricanes from Derby, CT, the Bushwackers from Harrison, NJ, the Reading Buccaneers from Reading, PA and your hosts, the Hawthorne Caballeros. Also performing in exhibition are the Skyliners Alumni Corps from New York, NY, the NY Skyliners Alumni Chorus from New York, NY Park City Pride from Bridgeport, CT and The Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps from Hawthorne, NJ will finish out the evening with their 2009 program which is guaranteed to entertain – and bring the audience to their feet. This is a great evening of entertainment, competitive spirit and fun for the whole family. Tickets are still available. Prices are $18 for reserved, $15 for adult general admission and $5 for general admission for children under 12. For more information, tickets or group packages, contact Rich Warga 201-271-1244 or Doug Tenis at 973-423-9702 check out the Drum Corps Grand Prix at www.cabs.org.
  22. Well Fran you started the thread and I could not have said it better. The Caballeros and the DCA could not have a better friend than Mayor Ernie Troiano, a true fan of our activity. Thank you just does not do it when you talk about everything the Mayor does to get this show on the field.
  23. Liz the only comparison to Waterbury (most years) is my underwear is still wet. Waterbury 2003 most of us were smart enough to do a stand still, I am still getting calls from my members that went down on the field and are suffering from their injuries. It’s not fun when backs go out, knee’s get twisted and guard members get hit by equipment as they fall into the mud. That does not include the tuba that needs to be fixed. Having said all of that it was great to get the season on the field and I truly think it is way to soon to crown this years champion because if that is the case most of the corps could save a lot of money and take the summer off. I know we have another 10 contest performances before a champion will be crowned. Best of luck to all of the corps this season, it should be a great summer. My thank you to the City of Wildwood will be in another post.
