  1. Okay ... to get back on track ... run the FL show in Jan ... maybe hook up with the FL Brass as a sponsor (most of them would compete anyway) ... they seem to have a good network down there ... and maybe you could entice Dick Burns (can I say that here?) and Billy Kaufman to judge ... WOW! ... just like the old Archie Nationals! ... LOL ... and ... I'll bet that many "wanna be" Snow Birds would jump at the chance for a "January Thaw" show ... HAHA ... and don't forget to invite the MINI-CORPS ... this segment of DC is gonna be HUGE in the coming years ... the BHOF will be partnering with MCA to promote venues for them to perform and compete ... VERY exciting stuff! ... Andy "got my Frikkin' Flyer miles ready" Lisko
  2. Yeah ... Cheri left the track ... long story ... seeking fame and fortune elsewhere ... no set game plan yet ... she's in the CT/NY area now and out in CA and Vegas the next two weeks ... and I'll admit, getting in touch with you over that past few years has been quite a challenge ... but, I did try ... at least I got to say hello to you before your I&E performance in 2005 up in Rochester ... Anyway, I really think an I&E show in FL would be a big hit ... you could call it Southern GAS ... LOL ... and serve beans and franks for effect ... YIKES! ... of course, I could always raffle off Depends like I did in Kingston one year ... don't laugh, I raised $300 that day ... HAHA ... Andy "Grand Poobah of the NY SIDELINERS" Lisko
  3. My daughter lives in the Daytona area but that may be changing soon ... my fav place in Clearwater is the Tiki Bar at the Adam's Mark (if it's there anymore) ... as for me ... I'm still grinding it out up here in CT ... ... work on that I&E show ... I think it could be a big deal down there ... Andy
  4. Hey Eddie ... now ye thinkin' !!!!! What part of FL are you in? Andy
  5. Better yet Vic, why not host an I&E in FL? I'm sure there are scads of "snow bird" and/or local talent and fans there just waiting to grace the stage of some Legion, VFW, Mosse or Elks hall down there ... Think about it ... I'll help you with what I know ... Andy "I might even be swayed to MC a FL gig" Lisko
  6. Buglers Hall of Fame 2008 I&E Show Schedule Announced Last year, the Buglers Hall of Fame sponsored their inaugural North American Championship for Individual and Ensemble Brass and Percussion, on Saturday, March 17 in Bridgeport, CT at the University of Bridgeport Student Center. Based on the success of the 2007 show, two I&E venues are being planned for 2008: • February 23, 2008 – Benda-Roehrich VFW Post 2867 – Garfield, NJ • March 29, 2008 – University of Bridgeport Student Center – Bridgeport, CT Undaunted by a major snow storm the morning of the show, I&E faithful from NY, NJ, MA, NH and CT journeyed to Bridgeport to enjoy camaraderie and competition at its best. Participants included members from Fusion Core, Park City Pride, Selden Cadets Alumni, Smithtown Freelancers, CT Hurricanes, Sunrisers, NY Skyliners Alumni, St. Kevin’s Alumni, CT Alumni, Capital Brass, Mass Brass, Amoskeag Sound, Manchester Muchachos and St. Rita’s Brassmen. An old I&E tradition of the 60’s and 70’s, the single stage for all contestant categories, will allow fans to see the entire show. This year’s venues offer the quintessential combination of a vintage NJ VFW hall and a state of the art university setting in CT. The stated BHOF charter is to honor the activity’s great players and contributors of the past and to continue and preserve the art of bugle playing by offering shows which provide the opportunity for buglers to develop their skills and demonstrate them in a public forum. But, remember, these events are not solely about individual buglers hoping to make their mark. They are about percussion, ensembles and mini-corps gathering together in a friendly, relaxed competitive atmosphere – with the emphasis on entertaining the fans. Awards will again be presented for Gold, Silver and Bronze in all categories. DCA I&E rules and guidelines will once again be followed. More details and contact information will be published as plans are finalized. So … get ready to go “back to the future” again not once but, twice at BHOF I&E competitions in 2008 … solid competition, healthy bantering, spectacular exhibitions and tremendous post-show parties … drum corps at its best! We now know what the future holds for this year’s BHOF I&E shows. Andy “your friendly BHOF I&E Show MC” Lisko
  7. I dunno Frank ... everytime I look at your avitar I think of John Belushi and "The Bumblebee Skit" done on SNL ... can you work that into the Golden Eagles routine next year? ... and as far as music stands go ... Sky's drumline tried a modified version of them in the late 60's ... we propped up one chair upside down on top of another ... only, we didn't have any music to read (Eric would never hand it out) so we just started playing on the chairs ... snares were metal and tenors were wood ... bass just used the tables and the cymbal player (ChingChing) was at the bar ... somehow ... someway ... things worked out and those that memorized played ... and those that didn't faked ... LOL ... ask Ruocco sometime to play some ratamecues and you'll see what I mean ... HAHA ... Andy "reading or not is okay with me ... JUST PLAY" Lisko
  8. Okay ... so ... to get back to the Defenders ... I remember them as the Holy Family Defenders in the 60's ... and then later as the Rockland Defenders in the 80's ... I'm pretty sure they were in Garfield's show in 1964 but, can't remember if they attended any VFW or AL nats or the WO ... anyway ... my question: did the Defenders in the 60's ever play the theme from the TV show from that era called The Defenders (starring E.G. Marshall)? Andy
  9. Sorry doll ... believe it or not I never took personal pics of my years with Sky ... ain't that a shame? ... Andy
  10. Not able to retire from work yet, Jim ... but, beer and pizza on a Friday late-afternoon sometime sounds good to me ... especially at the 3 Corners, which hosted the initial PCP meeting and signup (along with several post-rehearsal affairs) ... heh ... Give me a call ... I work from hom on Fridays ... Andy
  11. My involvement with PCP was well prior to my role as their drum instructor ... from the initial "concept" bar talk with Ken Fogerty to the massive planning and details with Duquette, Rodia, Dorritte and Genero for music, instruments, uniforms, logistics ... to the recruitment of other magnificent staff members and corps players ... it was a trip I will likely not forget ... and you (along with Pat Torre) were one of the first to join the "rust removal" sessions in my basement ... and then with Tony and Duane in my family room ... and then onto the German Club where all hell broke loose ... LOL ... Andy "retired from dc ... not from life" Lisko
  12. Jim ... it's too bad you were hit by that elevator at such an early age ... a true tragedy ... Andy "I don't own any Otis Elevator stock" Lisko
  13. No ... no stumpin' going on here ... I already know who it is ("your beloved" said Mr. Subliminal)) based on a prior exchange a whiloe ago ... :-)
  14. HAHA ... like Bucky ever grew up! ... LOL ... Andy "and if Bucky really likes you, he'll let you buy him a beer" Lisko
  15. No doubt that PCP turned out to be a phenom and an anomaly all at the same time ... but ... when we formed the corps' concept, it was pitched as a "one time shot" reunion corps with the focus of a single performance at the Barnum Festival parade and show ... membership was open to anyone who wanted to give it a go ... the majority of people who joined had not touched an instrument in 40 years ... we expected 15 people at our first planning meeting and 50 showed up ... we expected 75 at our official signup and 150+ showed up ... and you saw how the number swelled by performance time just 100 days later to 200+ ... it was an amazing journey ... but, it was only after the success of that first show (and the 100 days that led up to it) that a faction within the corps formed a management team to carry the corps forward as a sustaining combined alumni corps ... they hurdled many challenges over the first and second year to become a fine performing group, now in great demand due to their attention to detail and entertainment value to 60's and 70's drum corps die hard fans ... So ... my advice is to the Defenders is to pick a definitive parade/show/event and make arrangements with the sponsor to target your corps as the marquee exhibition ... it's worked for 27th ... it's worked for SCV ... it's worked for Madison ... it's worked for Anaheim ... and it can work for you ... the greater Boston area is ripe with talent that your corps will appeal to ... and if I were involved, I would target the 4th of July parade/DCI show/extraveganza that occurs up there ... it's a stable ongoing venue with a good fan base ... Good luck in however you proceed ... Andy "one of the original PCP minds" Lisko
  16. Well ... well ... Charlie King ... you in FL now? ... what part? ... my daughter lives in the Daytona area and I get down there every so often ... Andy
  17. Don Crowley, tenor drummer from the 60's and 70's lives in Lady Lake ... e-mail: dmcrowley43@embarqmail.com Good luck with it - sounds like a neat idea ... Andy
  18. HAHA ... just part of the "don't ask - don't tell age crowd" of 60's Jr. DC ... LOL ... :sshh: Andy "I'll never tell" Lisko
  19. G...D... Blue Rock guys ... always stirring up things ... HAHA ... Never realized he was in Berklee as early as 65 ... thought it was more 68-69-70ish ... Andy
  20. My advice would be to reword the petition prior to submitting it to the WDCHOF ... the current draft will most likely do Moe more harm than good in him being considered for 2008 ... it is not an affirmation of his contributions to the activiy but, rather a slam on the short-sightedness of the Selection Committee ... and, I believe a WDCHOF member still has to step up to the plate to sponsor Moe's nomination ... both Jim and Tom have said they would vote for Moe but, I'm not sure if he needs a formal nomination again or, can be considered by the Selection Committee vs. the Old Timers/Legacy/Special Consideration group, pending their rules surrounding the nomination process ... maybe Jim and/or Tom could provide guidance and sort out just where Moe is in the process based on prior nominations ... then Mike will know what group to submit the petition to ... Andy
  21. I concur ... I'm all for Moe getting in but, will not sign the petition as it is currently drafted ... Andy
  22. The BHOF will be sponsoring two I&E/Mini Corps shows ... 2/23/2008 in Garfield at the Sky Alumni's VFW Post and 3/29/2008 in Bridgeport ... formal announcements and details will be published shortly ... Andy "your cordial BHOF MC" Lisko
  23. Yup ... that's Ray ... I didn't want to get Nanci mad by being the first to respond ... heh ... Ray was mentored by Earl Sturtze and was an accomplished I&E snare champ with the CT Yankees before he took over the Hurcs in late 1965 ... he built a fanaticism into his lines rarely found in others ... DCA meetings were definitely interesting with him, Perrilloux, Myers, Flowers, Pratt, Barbaro and Goodhart around the table at the drum session ... YIKES! Andy
  24. Could it be the Mighty Mite himself ... GUIDO??? :-)
