  1. So sounds like they want to be “connected” to the Cadets. That is unless they see someone with legal papers coming. Shades of a DCA city that lost a corps and then a new one showed up few years later. Overheard a member being asked “are you guys really the (previous corps name)?”. Response was a VERY quick “NO!! We have nothing to do with them”. Sounded like some bills were outstanding
  2. Westshoremen bought Blue Devils uniforms in 1976. Took another year until we finally made DCA finals so don’t think we were mistaken for BD either
  3. I’ll just keep my thoughts to myself on this…. 🙄
  4. Was working when Navy started cleaning up its act on sexual harassment, etc. Was told have it on paper and have people sign that they read so no one can pull the “no one told me I couldn’t” BS excuse. Makes it easier legal wise to nail the idiots
  5. Yep and I was thinking the “way to find justice when criminal options no longer exist” given Cadets financial situation. When Westshore let lot of minors and females in it scared bunch of people. Worry was “little Billy and Suzie get busy on a corps trip and we get sued. What the #### are they going to get? A broken drum stick and couple of trophies?”. Think a Bill Light quote
  6. One would hope that this kicks DCI in the nether regions and they wake up to what needs to be done. Not holding my breath
  7. Thanks for the clarification. So this case is trying to determine who was negligent. (Penn State flashbacks coming back.) Sounds like trying to hold people in the organization responsible. And if can’t have a criminal trial to hold them responsible then hit them in the pocketbook. Or other option of ignoring it. 👎 Personally I’d prefer the individuals be sued and not the current organization.
  8. What exactly is this trial going to be about? Is it “we know who did or didn’t do what when, this is only about punishment”? Or is it Cadets and DCI didn’t do what they should have and it needs to be determined what that was? And there still are people out there victim blaming, not that a guilty verdict would change their minds. And if it’s “all about the money” then why are Cadets included if they’re broke? Lot of effort and lawyer fees to get a bunch of old trophies and crap the creditors missed.
  9. Maybe it’s not just a case of wanting money. Could want the truth of this mess to come out publicly.
  10. Did alumni type 2004-2011. Lot of what I saw were members of corps that no longer existed playing music of their era. Sure they enjoyed themselves but not a plan for future survival as members age. As for the corps that still exist, not having many local members hurts. They need to bring in people who never did corps to survive imo.
  11. Glad I wasn’t following the activity during that time. Saw enough in fighting stupidity 1974 and 1984.
  12. There was a 60s Sr corps called the Interstatesmen from NY/MA. In the 70s there was a corps with the same name that competed in the lower level Red Carpet Association. I thought the corps were connected until I said on RAMD I competed against them in the 70s. Think flames shot out of my monitor from the response from a 60s member.
  13. (Forget this as see Tim already posted about it: Hazy on the name but think 27th Lancer alumni wanted to start an alumni corps and they couldn’t use the same. Used something like Light Brigade?) Thinking our corps name is “the Cadets… but not those Cadets” Years back a corps disbanded and a corps with a different name appeared from the same city few years later. Overheard this at DCA: “Are you guys the (disbanded corps name)”? ”NO we have nothing to do with them”. Reply was give so quickly and emphatically 🤔🤔🤔🤔
  14. My thoughts go towards getting new members. Would these young people remember the glory years… doubtful. Would they remember the legal issues and going inactive… more likely. ”hey mom and dad I want to spend $$$$ and a summer marching with….🤔”
  15. Lost the tape (or maybe it destroyed itself from shame), 1976 Hershey show retreat the corps were supposed to play something patriotic for bicentennial. Maybe same Stars and Stripes. Anyway think whoever started it gave 1,2,3 and 3 corps came in on 4. 3 corps came in a beat later (on 1). And one corps (7 corps show) came in another beat later. Kind of like playing the song in a round. 😱
  16. IMO depends on the incident. Instructor gets mad, yells and that’s it, fine. But if continuing to harp on members to the point they look for an excuse to yell.. find another job. Goes with the daughter of an ex-boss. She had to drop out mid season due to a health issue. Got told she wasn’t (corps name) material and shunned until her folks picked up. Then management was “too busy” to give parents details on what happened. IOW if you’re not helping the corps then you’re dirt
  17. Teaching by fear…. 👎 (not the digit I want to use here). We had a drill guy who was a screamer but that just released the pressure and nothing personal. Same guy would yell at you in practice and after practice come up and “hey we haven’t talked for a while, how have you been doing”.
  18. I never understood screaming as a help in making something better. I’ve screwed up from brain farts or not understanding what I was suppose to do. If the former the person maddest at me would be… me. 🤦‍♂️🤬 If the latter then yelling ain’t explaining and ain’t gonna help clean the problem.
  19. Agreed… wonder if picking words carefully as not to upset the people he has to work with.
  20. “Required a little bit of focus on finances”.
  21. And then option 4 might come into play: all these years of taking crap from people calling us liars and harassing us. A guilty verdict is to say “look ###### ####### we WERE telling the truth”.
  22. If nothing else it shows proof what happened and who was responsible. And the victims were not lying or blowing smoke. IOW can bring closure to the victims
