  1. Good point on the changes to the bugles. From one who was there at the time, there was a LOT of heartburn on going to 2 upright valves from piston/rotor. Most of it was that MB and DC horns looked alike unless you got close enough to count valves. FWIW, I was only listing changes in the last few years. I walked away from DC for a decade and didn't see any shows from about 1993-2002. And almost all the DCI shows I have seen since ?????? are from what gets shown on TV *sigh* So I stand corrected on what Star and VK did with props. (Kind of remember VK with golf clubs but that's it.) Empire Statesmen and Skyliners have been using big backdrops in their shows and I had those backdrops in mind (plus Cadets door). I wasn;t thinking about props small enough to be picked up by one peson but I didn't say it at the time. Oh yeah, my "discussion group" is for people who disagree with me about DC but can keep it civil. This ol' boy needs to keep up to date with what's going on today. C'mon down Matt
  2. :) The man gets it. Adding you to my DC discussion group with MikeD. And the important part is - I'm buying
  3. Got interupted before I finished, here's rest. I'm in the middle of this issue so both sides posts can look bad to me. FWIW, I don't like amps and big ###ed props but I'm not willing to say DC=MB. BUT, for the last few years the line has definitely gotten closer, if not blurred, between the two. In concrete ways: 1) Use of same key in MB and DC 2) Use of props like Cadets door, Empires backdrops, etc 3) Amps In abstract ways: 1) I play trumpet/tuba in Drum Corps - 'nuff said 2) "The only difference between DC and MB is the insensity or the experience". Have seen this posted a few times and if that's the only difference that can be seen.. WOW 3) Someone can talk about bringing WWs in DC and people take it seriously. I can see why some people think that DC is turning/has turned into MB as they have gotten closer and closer. And Connor I was just having fun as I enjoying hearing your thoughts. Even thought we don't always agree.
  4. Well I don't watch MB shows so I'll take your word for it Conner :P KIDDING except for not watching band shows. Seriously, as a mental exercise I wondered what it would look like if everytime someone made a pro-amp post someone would respond with "OK you won, bringing it up again is pointless". Yeah, sounded weird to me but have sounds pretty close to some ani-amp post responses. We will sell no Whine before it's time...... IT'S TIME ^0^
  5. Cool, didn't know what happened in 1980. Then again I worked rotating shifts back then and have NO memory of that time. :( Like I said I disagree with a lot of GHs proposals but probably would enjoy talking them out. He doesn't seem to be shy about expressing himself. :P
  6. :P Sounds like friend of mine who loved to work with kids at the local T-Ball and Little League type basefield field nearby. HATES to watch baseball...... My only question to George would be does he understand or care about Drum Corps past. And I'd be willing to buy the drinks while we talk it out.
  7. Making new resolution for myself: "Don't complain about people complaining about someone elses original complaint" which a few pages of this thread turned into (and I helped to spread). Totally pointless and waste of time. Yeah, I can admit that I was doing it. And "complaining" is more accurate, and more respectful (less insulting) than "whining".
  8. And after you build up your tolerance, you can move up to the Alumni Corps :P Just having fun with stereotypes folks.....
  9. Better watch all this beer talk, you're beginning sound like those stuck in past All Age people.... And we just know that whole activity is fueled by that stuff that comes out of a tap. ^0^ :P
  10. My bad for not including the link http://www.drumcorpsplanet.org/forums//ind...topic=73203&hl= Thread title is "We have met the enemy and they are Us". And after two years of being on DCP and four on RAMD I have yet to be offended by anyones opinion given on Drum Corps. At age 48, what happens with DC is way down on my priority list. I enjoy watching and listening but don't really get upset over changes seen since 1974. I ask to get information, after too many years fixing computer related problems it's a hard habit to break.
  11. And what exactly is your definition of unattractive or childish behavior? Last month I started a thread on peoples (not DCI) attitudes toward Div II/III. Had a good discussion while it lasted with the except of one post that read in part. "but this kind of thread, IMO, is just a floodgate opening for a certain segment of our community to come in and bash on juniors vs. whatever else is out there.. Not constructive at all, IMO." Your words and your opinions Steph and if you disagree, fine. But IMO, disrespecting others opinions by saying they whine and act childish is "not constructive at all" either.
  12. And what was a big corps back then Jeff, 32-48 members??? PS - History of Drum Corps has a picture of a 1930s corps carrying megaphones during a parade. Appears singing during parades was not unheard of either.
  13. Always enjoy talking to someone when their opinion is the total opposite of mine. Of course the trick is to understand differing opinions are OK and respect the other persons opinion. In my case I don't like the use of dance either and think it distracts from watching the other members march. If the person next to me would say "Man guard work in your day was boring all they did was march around like the rest of the corps", IMO that could be the start of a great discussion. Let's face it folks, change over the years is one of the biggest talking points about DC. If someone says "I don't like this change because...." is less a whine/insult than a chance for discussion.
  14. Might be talking about the "Hostile Takeover" attempt of RAMD by cross posters. For a while their crap was burying threads started by the regulars.
  15. Checked the web site and they are still advertising the Fall 2005 issue and doesn't look like they post too many of their articles. Also don't think George had too much to do with starting the Cadets. He don't look THAT old ^0^ Magic year was 1934 in Gaaaaaaaar-field...... OK, just see that Wayne already responded too...
  16. Have a questionable turntable in the basement and albums that have seen better days. Hey if you like 'em, you play the snot outta 'em. Over the last few years I've been replacing my DCA vinyl with CD because of the better quality and durability of the CD (and now I can afford to do it ). And Kevin ^OO^ to your link. I've dealt with them too on cleaning/converting old cassettes and getting older (historic) sounds.
  17. Didn't watch any corps from 1993-2002 so will load up on the shows I saw: 1979 or 1980 Buccs - yep, what else can be said 1974 Yankee Rebels - if for no other reason the "Minstral Show" concert which was unique. 1972 Crusaders - never saw the show but my CD just screams "WOW" 2005 Buccs - "horn choir" just knocked me out 2003 Renegades - Loud ain't good, it's greaaaaat!! 1975 Hurcs - Horn line that could blast paint off the walls and "Suicide Wheel" on Hang 'em High 1980s kind of a blur - still thinking 1975 Phoenix - ahead of their time, opening number a combo of Firebird Suite and Doors Light My Fire. At that time, combining a classical and a rock number like that was a definite WTF. Any year Sky did Elks Parade, Traffic Jam and New York, New York closer. 1980 RI Matadors - Unbelievable solo work 1976 Cabs - a true Latin Express with high mark time Any late 70s/early 80s year when Sun won DCA - A touch of class
  18. Or at least give the rights to another group to produce old DCI CDs on demand. Wow, can't believe there isn't a way to get previous DCI Championships.
  19. Will pass the thanks back to the lady who posted the link on RAMD as she doesn't post here. We have at least two members in their 70s (sop/drum tech) and a few in their 60s who still do parades. I'm 48 and just shake my head in amazement at times. Nothing like a septuagenarian (had to look up the spelling) asking me if I'm doing OK during a hot parade.
  20. Copied from a RAMD thread.... Mainly about All Age corps so wil post here... http://www.makingmusicmag.com/pages/features/05july02.html
  21. Still debating my "History Project".... Beer would help... before and after :sshh:
  22. First time at Erie Stadium (76 RCA) we looked at it and asked "What the #### do they use this place for?" We were looking for guard towers and machine gun emplacements :sshh: And I forgot about being the Westshoreliners.... After one parade the Patriot listed us as the West Shiremen. (What from Shiremanstown?)
  23. Also Erie won the Red Carpet Association (Circuit for small Sr corps) the week before. RCA Champs were also held at the Erie Prison, err Stadium. ^0^
  24. If it hadn't been for a local Senior corps I'd never had joined a corps at all. Keystone was 3 miles down the road and nearest Jr was Schuykill Co. Belvederes 60 miles up a nasty patch of I-81. Next nearest would be 507 Hornets/Crossmen in Philly area or White Knights(?) in Baltimore. When Keystone merged with Westshoremen I had to catch a ride with two BoD members who lived nearby. Let's just say my folks didn't trust me driving long distances with a brand new drivers license.
