  1. I'm putting together a sponsorship packet, to go to both musicians and non. DCI used to have a REALLY good, succinct definition of drum corps, and now I can't find it. Wiki is good, but long winded. Some corps have this on their sites, but I can't think right now. Help?
  2. Why would you get your wisdom teeth pulled in the middle of tour? I have to get mine pulled really soon, between camps/
  3. Uh. how about it's both, since it's Marching Music's Major Leauge?
  4. I marched all of Finals Week 05 w/ a knee so jacked up, my mom had to get a prescription for vicodin for me. I never had it checked out, and so I still have issues with it
  5. I would LOVE to see major comebacks from SCV and Madison. As I said to someone last weekend "2003 and 2005 Scouts made me wish I had male genitalia so I could march with them."
  6. I only use MySpace/Facebook to keep in touch with my friends scattered all over the country (from drum corps). I likely won't use this CorpsData site, as all my DC friends already have either of the two. Even still, I neglect Facebook, heh. Don't need another one to forget about.
  7. One really good example of how a corps should start and survive would be Arizona Academy. I marched in another corps when AZ came on the circut. We didn't expect anything out of them, as they had been a parade corps the year before. Nobody did really. But they joined the rest of the Div IIs on tour, and blew everyone away, winning every show (or so it seemed.) Then, the rest of us went on to Finals, and AZ went home. The next year, AZ came to Finals, and OWNED. More recently, everyone knows how they've fared. Their staff did things right, starting small, and regional, and blowing up once the finances were in order. Obviously the real question here would be...how long will it last? Other Div II/III winners had similar stories: having a successful Div II/III career, ending it with a huge win, the next year going to Div I quite succesfully. But then, many of them end up in the bottom 12. Corps that come to mind are Magic, Mandarins, Cascades, Pacific Crest. These corps, I fear, are the next on the docket for folding. How does a corps prevent this "burn out"? This is another thing that must be considered with the future of the activity. How to stay competitive once the push to Div I has been completed? *edit* I swear, I'm not flaming here. I've marched, considered marching, and have had many friends march every one of these corps I've named, and I've said the same thing to their faces. It's a genuine question.
  8. Heh. I'm going to gladly disagree with you, and leave it at that. I'd love to share what I know about chiro if you're interested, but it's something that can go to PM, as people here love to take things and run with them :) I also realize getting a chiro specifically for one corps is far fetched, but a girl can dream, can't she?
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Rubbermaid (water jugs) and Aerobeds are already sponsors, correct? The latter of which just recently signed on. As for an Advil sponsorship, I'm against it. I'm not a fan of encouraging many young people to get dependent on pain killers. Instead align with Chiropractors of the nation and encourage better spine health. (this is actually my plan once I get my degree, to give free/discounted chiro care to marching members in the off season, and do a free exam/adjustment days for traveling corps.) *this is coming from a former ibprofin addict. I used to swallow that stuff like candy, sometimes in anticipation of pain to come.
  10. Well. I guess you could say I'm one of those corps whores, but I definitely have my own reasons for it, and none of them are for that ever glorious ring. Blue Devils B 03, 04 Seattle Cascades 05 Time Off 06 SF Renegades 07 California Div I (world class?) call-back 08 I grew up in the bay area, and started with the Blue Devils as they were the closest to my house. Then BDB wasn't going to finals in 05 so I looked for a Div I for months (got cut from BDA), but I didn't end up with Seattle until April. After that season I moved to Florida for two years, and just moved back May of last summer. I ended up marching with Renegades to get my feet moving and chops playing again (plus they're awesome). I have two years left in juniors, and fully intend to age out with the corps I'm currently with. (fingers crossed!) I'm not really stoked to have four corps jackets, as I always envisioned having my BD jacket with years and years going down the arm, ala the Odellos. I also didn't plan on marching senior corps until I aged out, if ever. But life didn't work out that way for me, and I don't regret one minute of my experiences. It's made me the marching member I am today. *edited for too many typos. It's after midnight, folks. *
  11. Aero beds take 60sec to blow up. Everyone's doing it at the end of the night (or beginning, depending on how late you roll up.) So the noise isn't an issue. Also, if you're a a housing site for a couple nights, you leave it blown up. There will be those who sleep on the floor. There'll be those who use an army cot. Then you'll also have those kids with the double deck king sized airmattress. To each his own. On tour in 05, I used just a backpacking air pad, which put me to sleep fine. Heck, we sleep on moving busses, it's not the material under us that helps us sleep. It's about the comfort and ability to recharge for the next day. I ended up developing a pretty bad knee and back problem from sleeping on my skinny pad, and had to get through finals week on Vicodin from my mom. This year, I'm definitely going to buy an air-mattress, probably DCI's special.
  12. Ive had a cell phone every year on tour, and honestly, I'm not one of those who uses it every second of every break. Normally it's off to save the charge during rehearsals, or shows, (since you dont know when you won't have a plug the next night) and only on to check for texts or voice mails usually at meals. Most of my talking was done before bed, during snack, or texting on the bus after the show. I usually have SOMONE I know at every stop on tour, so I'd keep it with me after the performance to meet up with friends. Now, this will be my first year marching with my boyfriend at home, so I'm not sure how my usage will change. The corps I'm with disallows cell phones in line for food, and they have to be turned off 15min before lights out.
  13. Wellll. Last year I marched Renegades, soooo so much for that. This year, the corps I'm auditioning for requires both a hat and sunglasses for rehearsal. I pretty much always remember being able to wear sunglasses at rehearsal, but I always wore normal glasses before 2005, so it didn't matter much to me. The only thing I've ever heard is not to rehearse with a sweatshirt hood up, because it blocks the perifs, and muffles the ensemble sound.
  14. Haha....Um, I was pretty good on free-days...until one time down @ San Antonio's RiverWalk, I hooked up with someone inside the virtual rollercoaster. We walked out, all mussed up, and his exgirlfriend was standing right there. Great moment.
  15. I've always used New Balance all-terrain shoes. Definitely DON'T use nike shox. They're great running shoes, I have a pair of my own, but the shocks get in the way of perfect marching :)
  16. It is on like Donkey Kong for 2008 just waiting for that cymbal line to apear. -Renegade_fireman
  17. In the mortal words of Kent Cater: 12 12 123 12 12 123 *####....girlfriend still signed on. -Renegade_fireman
  18. We couldent get it together. One of our guys lives down in socal, and flights up here this weekend were obviously rediculous. And he works for the airline....so that really shows ya how busy they were. *girlfriend still signed onto my computer lol.
  19. Honestly, I think I spent (and will spend when I finish paying of my dues) just as much money marching senior corps this year, as I did when I was flying to junior corps three years ago. The dues might be less, but there's the gas, and the plane flights, and the hotels, and the lunches and dinner that the corps doesn't provide.
  20. I don't think the big boys will have a problem filling holes, honestly. You know how many kids show up to audition camps. Crap, there's a reason they do camps all over the country, to find the best of the best. Smaller corps will still be smaller corps, regardless of the new size limit.
