Hey - I don't mind - as long as it is tune and together - LOL :D -
Geritol? and Jack Meehan's secret lip juice and Wayne's snake oil - LOL - We need to get Louis up to DCA so he can join in on the fun.

Good to hear everyone had great performances. When was the last time for a massed horn line performance in Cali? 1980 - Jim Ott Memorial at DVC? the .mp3 sounded wonderful except for the skid marks left by the sopranos - Larry is gonna kill me for that comment - LOL. -
A Nalls/Tuttle french horn showdown - now that could be LOUD - Terri D. can break out her horn again. We might want to talk to Dean Bull - he is a killer horn player as well. :D
-
This may have gotten out of hand - but will be fun to meet some great baritone players - and make some new friends. I will have my Colorado micro-brews chilled and at hand. Congratulations Renegades on continued success. Louis - a.k.a. DevsBari02 - I'd suggest a little conversation with Wayne is in order - ask him if he remembers a kid named Doug Kenyon - he can appraise you about myself. I am not trying to flame you, and yes I have repsect for your I & E championship - hope to met you some day. Hey Chris - did ya see I made the "Geriatrics Club" finally - LOL Maybe some day I will officially retire from drum corps and become a fan (bus/equipment truck driver) again. :D
-
Guess I better start doing the running block and wind sprints - LOL - I'll bring the "Fat Tire" Ales and Gilman can bring some "Arrogant ########".... Blow them away this weekend Renegades! ]:-)

1981 DCI Championships (VHS) Review

Did not realize that set was that far off... We must have drill downed that manuver 1,000 times that summer - i am sure you remember - I posted that double G lick as one of my all time favorites - the drill and the chart were way exposed. I thought we performed pretty good - good enough to win high horns. -
I have posted on topics similar to this one in the past but here goes... some repeats here folks - guess that says it all. Jim Elvord, Jim Mason, John Simpson, Wayne Downey, Jack Meehan, Jim Wren, Dan Farell, Mark Glascoe, Col. Truman Crawford Now there is a list of talent - I was never instructed by the Phantom Regiment dudes listed - but watched them do magic over the years...
-
I wanted to thank Terri and Frank for the nice compliments - Rick South - what more can be said - this guy is a drum corps legend like Chris Nalls, Larry Dastrup, Rich Duarte, Greg Gillman and countless others in that Renegade horn line. I want to wish the Renegades a good performance this Saturday - LOUD3 - I like it. Wish I could be there - wanted to see the Stewart Tartan Pipe Band. Doug "pooh bear" Kenyon Lead Fife - General Putnam's Men 1978
-
wanted to add the french horn trills at the end of "Free" - 1979 1980 Blue Devils - Chris Nalls and Dave Tuttle - a High D if I remember correctly.
-
I'd rather be known for playing in tune and flexibility - thanks - the baritone players that need a challenge know where to find me. I do not hide very well. Royal Airs 2002. See ya on the 50 as Greg would say. Oh - almost forgot - what about high notes? Double C (in tune) or higher anyone? just ask Greg.... :)
-
That mirror didn't stand a chance - LOL :D I can remember when "peal paint baby" "part my hair" "shake the popcorn out of the fat ladys hand in the upper deck" - really meant something - It is one of the exciting things that is missing from junior drum corps today IMO. I love the young kids today - but if they could only see the '72 Kingsmen '75 Scouts '76 BD or similar corps from that era - the intensity and the hype.... Video just does not do "old drum corps" justice - you had to see it LIVE.
-
Yeah - and he can play in the stratosphere also - gotta love it. Chris - is Rick marching in 2002 SCV Alumni? Is he marching Renegades?
-
Oops - forgot about Frank and Moon Eyes - might want to retract that loudest bari in the country statement :yikes: Some of the old PR baris also - Dan Farrell - Mark Glascoe
-
I am partial to Blue Devils lines but.... Maybe Spirit of Atlanta in '79 or '80 or possibly PR the years they played 1812 overture - I think they had something like 24 baritones/euphoniums. Remember - playing in tune and listening is far more preferable than flat out loud playing. I challenge any baritone/euphonium player in the country to play louder than I can - and that is not a boast - ask Gillman, Nalls, Dastrup, DeMello, or Rick South.
-
Yep - Blue Devils have always had FULL horn lines Royal Airs Line up - not sure of exact numbers - but here goes 35 sopranos - plenty of "legends" 16 mellophones - to rival the "power alley" 20 baritones - 7 euphoniums 10 contras I think we will be in the neighborhood of 80 to 88 players. Remember - 60 horn players in TUNE can sound like 80... Should be a fun summer-can't wait to blow some people away.
-
1981 Blue Devils lead baritone line - "Johnny One Note" - high G to Double G - many people thought we were french horns playing that lick - but.... Props to Dave Carico, Greg Gilman, John Ellis, and some corn seed from Iowa. BTW - if you listen to the finals recording in Montreal - that double G was veeerrrry in tune and LOUD - nuff said. :D

1981 DCI Championships (VHS) Review

I would like to see a video of the 1981 DCI Finals in Montreal. I feel all the corps members got the shaft for this year because our FINALS performance was never broadcast. Is this the only DCI finals that was not broadcast on television? -
I'll bet Jim likes that more sultry voice - LOL - Hey I have given Mike Kolle a lot of Cindy's Guardsmen stuff - I hope you guys run into a lot of old corps friends this summer. CU (go Buffs) in a few weeks - pooh bear
-
Terri, I enjoyed seeing the Capital Sound drum line warm up (pretty tight for April). They should do well this summer. I didn't see a beard on ya Sunday - but I noticed your voice has lowered a bit - LOL I'll be in Oswego for May camp. See ya then. :D

Madison Scouts 2002 .....WOW
pooh bear replied to maximillion's topic in DCI (All) Corps Show & Event Reviews
I had a great time on Sunday. It was good to see old Kiltie friends - Frank Schoenbach, Stef Kressaty, Russ Bjork, Bill and Susan Roetzer, The Ericksons, The Fazzaris - sorry if I am leaving any one out. Look for a more refined Royal Airs as the summer moves along. Thanks for the support from the entire drum corps community. I am on my way to Dubuque this weekend for Colt Cadet rehersal - no not me - my 10 year old daughter Kayla. I guess I should think about moving back to the midwest. (8-] -
I've always said - It isn't the mouthpiece or the horn - It's the operator. I have played on Bach 7C, 12C, 6-1/2AL, 6-1/2AM, Shilke 51D - overall I like the new 6-1/2 AL megatone piece - more mass - better tone. Shilke 51D is very popular - but like a bathtub. Thin double C's with the Shilke 51D - course it all depends on the style of music you are playing. I think I'll try Terry Doran's Parduba at next RA rehersal - LOL :D
