  1. Hmmm...... Yamaha 642S Professional Compensating Euphonium Bach Stradivarius 42BO Tenor Trombone King 2B Silvertone (from 1940, vintage, great lead horn) Currently playing a modified Dynasty Bb baritone. Played more horns than I can remember, including every Bb marching baritone on the market, (and some not on the market). :p
  2. ####, that's vintage. It sure would be cool to try one of those things out though.
  3. Brent, that would be way cool. Interesting note. I was talking to Wayne at the hall today. He told me he did a decibel test to see which key of horns were the loudest. He said the test showed the Bb's were actually louder than the G's. Interesting to know. I think Spirit's hornline registered at 107 dB last summer, and 120 in Houston, (which is where we developed this rediculously loud dynamic level called 'white heat'). I may be wrong though. It was the lead sopranos who had the meter, so I dont know. That whole thing with the EU. They suck. Ignorant ########. And to think I actually like the EU, and concept of the EU.......ugh! Not so much anymore.
  4. Man, I have heard stories about those two-valve Kings. The loudest marching horn I have played was a 3-valve Kanstul. ####, that horn was loud! I think the new baritones we are getting will break that threshold, however.
  5. I hate to say it, but Cadets should have won the Jim Ott last summer. What a hornline! I remember sometimes I would hear them practicing at the stadium. They were such beasts. It was awesome. Cadets 2001 was the best hornline last summer, and the very likely the best Cadets hornline ever. Just got done listening to 98. Another great Cadets hornline. Definitely in the top 5 of Cadets hornlines.
  6. I have seen a triple horn. Interesting creatures. I know marching french horn is hard but nothing is harder than contra. Having to haul your butt around at 200 bpm, AND putting a ton of air through the horn. That sure aint easy! I know as a baritone player, it's hard enough. I could imagine what it would be like to do that and play contra. Ouch.
  7. Man, I wish I could have gone. I had rehearsal at the hall that night.
  8. Dude, get yourself to DCI! I'll be back in school come Scranton. Madison is better party town anyway. :p Drum corps in Madison, Wisconsin. What could be better? :D
  9. Dude, we need to hang one day. Share war stories and the like.
  10. Well, it sure wasnt 86 or 91. Egh. 2001 was awesome. It was probably the best Cadet line ever.
  11. Here's a far fecthed idea, or conspiracy theory if you will...... Madison is placing lower because they wont go Bb.......... Probably not, but its a thought. Madison will be the last to change.
  12. Thanks for the compliment Homer. Dont worry, my head isnt that big, I am just funnin'. Geoff, in every corps I have been in, that is totally the vibe. We dont brag it up, we just lay it down. Bb
  13. Knowing how the Blue Devils have marketed their products in the past, I wouldnt be suprised if they would be available this summer, but I honestly dont know when they will be available for purchase.
  14. Yea dude, I'll talk to Wayne on Saturday. Just got done with a weekend rehearsal but didnt see this until now. Thanks about I & E, hope to meet you too. :D
  15. Dont want to ruin it more than I already have, but I am sure it will be good. Just wait and see. Buy it and find out. :p
  16. It is very untrue. It's going to be a Brass Technique DVD! :p It's true. :D
  17. A double F, as a 14-YEAR OLD! (Just in fun).
  18. By the way, as for the loudest baritone line ever. That's easy. 1980 Spirit of Atlanta.
  19. Double C, huh? I've been playing double F's since my freshman year in high school. You may be the loudest baritone in your little geriatrics club, but I have a DCI I & E Championship medal, and the ability to cut through any 64-piece hornline that says............... BRING IT!!! ]:-)
  20. Of course, I have toured with Devils yet, but the most influential instructors I have come across are Alan Armstrong and Freddy Martin.
  21. I dont think Scouts will ever change to Bb/F.
  22. 24 Sopranos 12 Mellophones 20 Baritones/Euphoniums (5 upper baris, 5 lower baris, 5 upper euphs, 5 lower euphs) 10 Contrabasses 66 Brass
  23. Today at rehearsal, I was reminded that Van is the man.
  24. We have some really hard contra parts in "I Got Rhythm" and "Channel One". Walking bass at speeds up to 200 bpm!
  25. The BLAST horn sections dont play half as loud as Star's drum corps hornlines played anyway.
