  1. John, great job w/ Gold. I definitely had you guys alot closer to Brigs. Bucs, were fantastic but I know I'm partial.... it's good to see you don't always need screaming sops and jazz charts to win in DCA. Great show by all corps, thanks for a great and enjoyable evening!!
  2. So like are you guys having a Membership Day this year or what? ^0^
  3. I agree wholeheartedly on this. There are alot of trumpet and soprano players who can squeal on their horn but not that many who can march the show, step out and peel some faces off. They have Alumni Corps if you want to park and bark. There is nothing wrong with a standstill performance but it's just that it has it's own forum already so no need to bleed over. We could get into a huge flamefest on the issue of when is it time to hang it up in DCA? With the performance level, demand and quality being raised yearly it is a hard truth in that you may not be able to march with the competing corps forever. Alumni corps, however, is still there to afford the opportunity and venue to perform. I would love to play first base for the Phillies but I don't think I'm going to wake up anytime soon swinging the bat like Jim Thome (when he's healthy) but I can go to fantasy camp and take fungos from Reggie Jackson. A pretty bad comparison but my point is buried in there somewhere. So there is my 2cents worth of unsolicited opinion.
  4. Even with a season like you all have just put in these boards always seem to remain a little quiet concerning Reading. You didn't talk hype, you didn't make predictions, you went out there this season and laid it all down on the field. You bring a different product to the DCA field and you bring it with the utmost class. It is outstanding to see that product recognized and to see the payoff of your hard work and planning. So now you can rest in the fact that you are indeed the 2005 DCA Champions. I, along with many others, am extremely proud each and every one of you! Forever Blue!
  5. DCP pseudo-Mad Libs Oh yeah!? Well, back in the summer of (insert year of your liking) I saw a- A)guy B) girl C) not sure, but possibly A and B- march without - A)a head B)a mouth C)an epidermis D)any discernable talent-. ^0^ Where did this thread start? A) the begining B) Steve Gadd's house C) Wildwood D) the usual rumor mill Have fun at Finals!
  6. extenuating circumstance there, I would say, and a whole different bag of bollocks. Retaining a member because of a physical handicap fine, is even admirable in my book but allowing folks to lounge in the pit for an entire show just to solo without marching any drill just doesn't seem right to me. We can all go into town after the drum corps show and see these guys in their true element at the club while we drink until we can't feel feelings anymore.
  7. It may not make any difference to the crowd watching if a guy is brought in just for Finals as a ringer. I feel this is a big slap in the face to your team. We all know how close a corps becomes over the course of a season and just how much work gets put into a show. So now after months of this family creating and honing their show the "management" is going to bring in a ringer for your last show.... let alone pay him for the honor after everyone else has plunked down a season's worth of dues and other expenses. I don't care if it is fair, I mean we're talking about a JUDGED activity exactly how fair is it ever? But how would you feel if you were one of the rank and file who put your heart and soul into the season and have this happen? I know how I'd feel. But then again I'm not a big fan of soloists lunchboxing on the sideline for an entire show just so they can scream, so there you go.
  8. Sorry, I forgot to hit the "sarcasm" switch ;) I think everyone (performers AND judges) did an amazing job at finals and this will always remain a stand out year for the activity. Placements are what they are, end of story. That poor dead horse is tired of being beaten, seriously.
  9. John, stop that crazy talk now!! Hasn't it been made abundantly clear that it is all an East Coast conspiracy? <**>
  10. .......The problem is Scranton and Wilkes Barre which are two little grimey podunk towns with barely enough hotel space and entertainment venues to handle the thousands of people who are coming for DCA weekend. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ahh, yes but some of us still do like to call that grimey podunk area "Home" ;)
  11. just kidding.... :P (I'm officially bored)
  12. .... impossible, DCI says you can't hear the pit unless you do use amps! (sarcasm off) :P
  13. Schilke 51D is my favorite all around mouthpiece for concert euph and playing second or lead parts on the bugle closely followed by the Bach 5GS Megatone. However for playing the euph bugle I use my trash can, a Bach 2G :) I recomend the Shilke 51D or Bach 5GS though for better versatility (sp?)
  14. I also really like the Wick SM4 although I've never used it on a bugle just my concert euphonium. I usually go with a Bach 5GS Megatone or Schilke 51D for the bugle although I'm looking at going alot bigger for the euphbugle maybe a 1G or something.
