  1. Thank you for the pedestal, but I don't need it--I will remain closer to your level for debating purposes only. I proved my point about people's feelings when it comes to someone talking about their beloved corps--didn't I!
  2. If you are going to use Spirit as example of "what you dislike" about DCI, then I am going to defend my corps. Remember you are the one that said "anything to make finals."--referring to Spirit. You and the rest of the opposition act as if you are being victimized by DCI through rule changes. Why can't you attempt to be entertained by a show that may have elements in it that you dislike, rather than putting up such a fuss about it. You may actually enjoy what DCI is offering you.
  3. And here we go again..... You find it difficult to believe people compliment them on their tuba sound when fielding only 7 and are "reportedly" being drowned out by the string bass? So, having not viewed the show live you've chosen to take sides without any first hand account. Maybe those 7 contras are better in tune and project better than a 12 or even 16 member contraline--but again, we do choose to believe what we want to believe. Many of your statements are of secondary importance to your own opposing views of electronics as well. Mocking a child's parent, whom is protecting his child's interest is a game winner for you, for sure--all because you dislike DCI's rule changes.
  4. Does this similar statement flow as well: Before the automobile to get from point A to B was very time consuming because of the distance between. So, in order to get from A to B more effeciently humans started out walking then used horses, then locomotives, then cars and then aeroplanes--what will come next?
  5. If it's not about the kids then why put the kids picture on here and put Spirit in the heading. Speak hypothetically about the situation and not about a specific corps and then it won't be about the kids. After all, drum corps is about "the kids". Now that electronics are legal, his son can still have an amazing summer--especially if he feels supported!!!
  6. I refuse to look into your crystal ball. Oh but wait it looks different if you put on these babyblue 3ds. Rock the House SPIRIT!!!!! wait a sec.....here comes Relampiago....POW.....okay nevermind Spirit's string bass played a note and ended that!!!!! LOL
  7. If you guys hear Spirit's hornline and infact they do have a good low brass that is producing a great bottom for the rest of the hornline--will you guys come back to this thread and tell us about it. I wish I had faith that you would, you would earn a little more credibility in your future arguments about musical cop-outs. Right now you are just having target practice and the target is shooting back--it will continue this way i'm sure.
  8. Sensible enough for me--I appreciate that.
  9. Please explain another way to describe saying "yuck" to a picture of Spirit to me--I am a Spirit alumn. I do believe he was specifically talking about the bass thingy, but he commented with "yuck"--yet there are youth in the picture participating in a DCI show and they are playing by the rules. Yes it takes nerves. Talk about fake outrage--what about all the "I see where this is going", "soon corps will be doing x y z" and "this is doing more harm to the activity than helping". Fake outrage begets fake outrage.
  10. You do have a point, but if Spirit is doing okay right now--why not celebrate right now. Who knows if it will last? Also, yes Colts were beating BS for a few weeks last year and we do know how that ended up. What I am happy about though is that Spirit set the bar by being 15th and they went on first in their little grouping and wasn't really topped at all. Usually it takes a few viewings for judges to allow a non-finalist corps to score that closely to a finalist corps. Again, as you've said"it is extremely early though so no need to panic." Rock Out Spirit!!!!
  11. When a poster has the nerve to write "yuck" describing a picture of a DCI corps full of youth--that is hateful. Then other posters suggest going to a drum corps show to protest DCI for x y z--that will be very harmful to the activity and it will be out of spite. Progress is change and some change is not progress--it's going to come down to taste, who likes the changes and who doesn't. Likes and dislikes are opinions, but you come on here and speak everything anti-change to the drum corps activity as a "matter of fact" and the problem is, you are wrong by making that assumption--just because you don't like it.
  12. You are giving me advice on how to live with "the fact"(your fact) that people will not embrace what I think they should? If you could follow your own advice, you wouldn't feel so hateful and spiteful toward DCI for progessing. You are welcome....now Carry On
  13. Um...I think I just blacked out for a moment--did you say SPIRIT "had some of the best feet of the night"? Thank you so much for the compliment and Rock On Spirit
  14. That sir is very disrespectful and unwarranted. As old as you are, you shouldn't be told to act your age--but, please act your age!
  15. And that's why your judgement could be completely irrelevant. Carry on.......I know Spirit will
  16. I marched four years and I am just as important to this activity whether i'm a fan, alumnus, teacher, volunteer or current member. While I am impressed by the number of years you were able to contribute to the activity ( I sincerely thank you that is a lot of years), I don't give your opinion anymore weight than some with only two years. That's not how it works. Although those who were able to get a lot of years under their belts would like for it to be this way it's just not the way it works. Today is indeed a different landscape for the activity than 1952 I do believe --or whatever year those who know claim ownership of the activity want to predate their view of "tradition" to. It's a little belittling to be told that I don't understand or know what drum corps is because I am younger than you--or because I have less marching experience. I invite you to join the activity in 2009 and try your best to enjoy it without bitterly telling me how it is not as good as it was back in your day.
  17. Yeah but wait I thought "Relampiago" was the super-hero with super powers--guess Spirit's bass is like kryptonite. Rock On Spirit!!!!
  18. This is possibly a true statement, but I doubt you took the time to figure out how many are opposed to the progression of the activity by using electronics, to those who don't necessarily care for electronics but love drum corps more than to simply make a big fuss about electronics the way you do. Also, we dislike something because we have different taste, but you seem to use the general argument that since most people have a dislike within the activity that you can piggy back off of others disdain for x y z in the activity to validate your opinion--that the majority of DCI's veterans and fans are unhappy or dislike the same exact thing that you do. Some don't like the "new" things that the guards do, some don't care for esoteric shows, some don't like electronics, some prefer G bugles to Bb, some like old school drill and some of you don't like any of it--but that doesn't mean that the majority of the alumni and fans dislike the use of electronis with the same passion as you do.
  19. You are a part of DCI's fiscal base, but there are others with different opinions than yours who are also part of DCI's fiscal base.
  20. YOur drift opens up a "can of worms" that will be opinions about likes and dislikes in the activity. Spirit's show is "Live In Concert" using the music of Kansas. It's a Rock show. Their use of electronics at least fits the design of their show. If A Capella groups used instruments other than their voice would they still be called A Cappella groups? I don't think they would because A Capella is a much more clear and precise genre of Music, unlike drum corps.
  21. It could be something far worse than you would've imagined, but if that's what you see as the right thing to do in order to make your point--have fun. It seems to me that you care more about your opinions than the actual activity anyway. Some of you act as if you give thousands and tens of thousands of dollars to the activity each year and that DCI actually owes you something. If you pay to see a show(s) and no one forced you two, then it was for your entertainment and DCI doesn't owe you anything back for that. If you no longer feel entertained by the activity, then find another activity that does entertain you. Drum Corps International is a YOUTH activity and the member corps are not for profit. Would you seriously boycott DCI shows, and what would be your justification(other than you "dislike" the use of electronics)?
  22. um...your comment reminded me of the show "In Living Color" where the two guys dress up like women and acted as fashion police. Whenever they would see something that they dislike they would say "hated it" or something they liked "that gets two snaps". LOL
  23. Or you could stay at home and not hurt the activity with your non-sense. Tea parties= a political joke. When DCI was the way you would have it to be, did you go out and lobby in support of the activity.....probably not. So, now why would you try to hurt the activity by standing outside a show ruining everyone else's good time with your negativity?
