Live from the pressbox! DCI FINALS
eightyonepointthree replied to dugada's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Funny...The Cavaliers "standing man" is sometimes refered to as "Guido". -
According to the sheets, projection really doesn't have anything to do with the brass performance...the buzz word there is "communication". As for balance..it is impossible to hear brass balance from the field. The only balance you can hear is from player to player and I will argue with anyone who says that Cavaliers don't do that the best. As for tone, I completely disagree with you. I didn't hear tonights performances, but I was taught to use the same techniques the Cavaliers use, and it seems hard for me to even think about them using bad sounds on the field. I could be completely right. Then again, I may be wrong. These are merely my opinions.

The FINAL Finals Prediction Thread
eightyonepointthree replied to stxmoose32's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
The Cavaliers Phantom Regiment (by a tenth over BD) Blue Devils The Cadets Santa Clara Vanguard Bluecoats Carolina Crown Blue Knights Madison Scouts Boston Crusaders Glassmen Spirit Captions should just about be like semis. Cavaliers will win brass, vis, and GE. I also think Cavaliers will win GE Music over PR. No way PR loses Percussion (so weird saying that..especially after thinking about the 02 line). BD wins guard. The overall visual MIGHT go to BD if Marie pops a number for them. -
Will you please tell me where you got your music degree from so I know not to send any of my kids there?

Same as in 02, though Cavaliers CLEARY had the best brass line that year. The odd thing tonight is that Steve Calhoun judged and Cavaliers STILL won brass!

Will Phantom win Brass AND drums?!
eightyonepointthree replied to kas87's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Pretty sure they aren't doing the "tournament" scoring for captions like they used to. Case in point...last year at finals it was originally announced that phantom and cavies won brass, when in fact cadets did. I think they were taking them straight off the finals recaps and misread. -
The wind ensemble brass approach
eightyonepointthree replied to Row 25's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
One thing that makes the Cavaliers not sound as loud is simply that the sound is so pure and clean, there is no "junk" in the sound. If they had that "junk" or "edge" in the sound, noone would complain. Fact is, the sound of the Cavaliers brassline since 2002 is unmatched, and I prefer the unique sound they have, simply because "loud" has been done before. -
Allentown Friday review
eightyonepointthree replied to burdettsky's topic in DCI (All) Corps Show & Event Reviews
Design doesn't have nearly as much to do with the performance captions as you think. Fact is, Friday night, Cavaliers beat Phantom in Vis Performance, Colorguard Performance, and Brass Performance. If Phantom cam outperofrm every corps, why don't they? -
Which Corps is the Fan Favorite?
eightyonepointthree replied to membase's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I can see that. Most older drum corps fans in Chicago like the older design, like phantom. Marching band fans have a tendency to be more progressive. -

Dots came in 1991....Designed by David Lacey. -
All this would do is discourage kids from trying out in those lower placing corps. Why try out and march with a 12th place corps if it means you might not get to march Blue Devils the next year? Discouraging or eliminating movement between corps would just hurt the lower corps. PLUS, I don't think keeping kids longer is going to make them better. Having better design and a stronger staff would, however.

Where are these videos on Season Pass? I can't find them. -
When were you deflowered?

What is funny about that is knowing that the Sky Ryders made up that 9 point gap on Regiment and beat them in finals! -
Melodies of the 2006 Season
eightyonepointthree replied to Hrothgar15's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
That first excerpt CANT be Cavaliers....according to some on DCP, they have NO melodic content! Thanks for proving them wrong. -
Phantom 1.025 from the lead.
eightyonepointthree replied to Phantom&Phitch's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Ahh Nikk, I disagreed with your opinions for many years, but you have become less and less biased and I have started to see the same thing you have in many ways. However, I disagree with you on this. If the Cavaliers music seems "safe", it isn't because they program it to be "safe", they merely play what they want, without regard to difficulty. Trust me, talent wise from top to bottom, I doubt many corps in the top 4 or 5 can match them. In 01, The Cavaliers didn't have the talent the other corps did...that all changed in 02, and now they are equal to the other groups. -
Ok..so I think DCI needs to reward the top 9 corps by letting them select the judging panel for finals night. Here is how it would work: Each corps, after the last full regional, would draw a caption from a hat (like Vis Performance, etc). That corps gets to select who judges that caption on finals night. My question is this...would corps select who they KNOW would put them up, or would they possibly select someone who they know would slam another corps. What do you think?

How come after watching Cavaliers, BDs drill looks like it is slow motion? -

luckily they have to do more than just "do it more for you" to win brass. -

I can think of one person I would like to punch. By the way..that hornline is the best one on the field this year. -

I have a feeling we won't see Cavaliers field entrance tonight. -

I thought the same thing about SCV. Maybe this like a home show to Crown...sometimes kids think too much about things, etc and cause performance issues. -

Kind of makes me wish Cadets were going on last then!
