  1. hahaha, okay--same name, but totally different style of piece. Yeah, they've referenced it quite a few times... in other shows 1994, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004 2000, 2001, and 2004 were the years that were not "Trittico" shows, but the music was somehow referenced in.
  2. Wasn't sure if this organization still existed... It kinda just.... stopped...
  3. Thank you Gary, and all of the directors involved with CLASS. Tri-Color and Emerald Regime are honored to be involved with a great directors and organizations. We hope that you and other CLASS directors will be sending some corps out to the Tri-Color pre-season show! Again, thank you!
  4. The use of the ocean drums should be like enjoying a rich dark chocolate candy bar--slowly, so we can enjoy it. I would have the ocean drums be a little more subtle (background) rather than blasting. Not sure I really understand where the melodic line is going at times, especially for this introduction. This composition has great musical elements, but it needs more direction, and phrasing to really push any further.
  5. Judges for this event: Preliminary Competition TBA Finals Competition TBA
  6. I don't understand how a sponsor would expect an organization to just jump to the top in one season, especially with the fierce competition. Wall-Mart should have been proud to have had you guys in the first place. You ARE better without them.
  7. That is one tough sponsor you had. And I thought semifinalist had trouble with keeping sponsors. Most folks would be salivating to sponsor a top 12 corps!
  8. I don't believe that Trittico that Wayne is referencing is the same one that is played too much; that would be the one the Blue Knights have performed on multiple occasions: Trittico by James Curnow
  9. Emerald Regime is Proud to Present: Methods of Metheny -Minauno by Pat Metheny -Letter from Home by Pat Metheny -The Heat of the Day by Pat Metheny -Third Wind by Pat Metheny -First Circle by Pat Metheny -Minauno Reprise The corps will use colors, shapes, and voice to illustrate the music of Metheny. Emerald Regime will not be marching a field battery percussion unit this summer. Instead, the percussion section will consist of members in the pit, and 2 members on drumset throughout the show. We are also proud to announce that Pat Metheny will be coming out to work with the corps throughout the camp season, and throughout portions of tour. We hope you enjoy the show.
  10. None of the Alabama Division I or Division II corps advanced past quarterfinals, which is why there was no state champion for those divisions. The rules that were written up for State Championships specifically noted that in order to be eligible, corps must advance to semifinals. It is kind of ironic that the two division I Alabama corps tied in quarterfinals!
  11. I actually prefer Popeyes Chicken over KFC. And, the generated score stuff, got out, because it was clearly explained and written out on the FDCI site, back when that league was in the works. I am not sure if you adapted the same one back when Steve was running DCPI, but that formula was no secret, so I am not sure if those directors figured it out because of that.
  12. There are corps who have been close for years, and have never won finals... So don't be disappointed. Tri-Color has won prelims, and semifinals many many many times, then to be pushed down a few spots and not win it all. There are corps who would love to make it out of semifinals, that never have... Just be glad you were there all three rounds! :-) You could have been in 13th place...
  13. To answer your question from my own experience and knowledge on the topic: The scores you see on days where a specific corps did not have a show, are generated scores. There are some linear projections with how it works over time--based on how that corps has been performing all season, the last 3 shows, etc...etc... it really is up to the administration to determine how the scores will generate, and they use that formula all season. For instance, if Blue Devils earned a 16.8 on Monday, 16.5 on Tuesday, 16.8 on Wednesday, 17.2 on Thursday, and did not have a show on Friday, their generated score could be slightly lower than 17.2 on Friday, or slightly higher. Had their score went in a straight up slope, it would be almost a given that their score would be 17.2 or higher on Friday for their generated score. I noticed that Cascades colorguard score from this previous season, generated in a downward slope after their 16.9 in quarterfinals--this could be due to the fact that their scores were all over the place the last few weeks. Generated scores also take into account the corps around you and how they have been doing as well (DCI corps). Yes, there is a formula for how to derive these numbers, but the administration are the only ones who know how to do it, because it is done on a spreadsheet, in which they can change the percentages and all that other mathematical stuff. For the most part, I always assume that the generated score will be the same as the REAL score the night before, and that gives an accurate value. If everyone knew the formula, then this wouldn't be as fun as it is to play!
  14. Tri-Color shares the same experience. Looks like we picked a good time to move back to California from Indiana!

  16. Sounds great! Now Emerald Regime will have some true Northwest competition.
  17. Oakland Skylarks earned the 10th place spot, as they had a higher General Effect score than you. I believe General Effect settles the tie, since we no longer "do" ties in DCPI anymore.
  18. May 9th - 10th Stanford University (Stanford CA) Tri-Color would like to take this time to extend an invitation to all DCPI and non DCPI directors who are interested in a pre-season event. This setting will allow for directors to perform their show before the actual DCI/DCPI Live Season begins. If you are interested in this event, simply send me a PM, and I will put your corps in the database. Please read the following directions very carefully for submitting a corps. -------------------------------------------------------------- Contest Application Corps will be classified in 3 divisions: World Class, Open Class, and A Class. There is no number requirement for each classification, but try to put your corps in a classification that best fits the corps talent level. The classes are structured similar to the WGI classification system. World Class being the premier and high level of performing groups, Open Class being a mix of high level performing, but with less resources, and A class groups being groups that have little to no resources, but can still compete with a moderate talent level or have little to no experience competing. Directors can send no more than 3 corps to this event, and they must be in different divisions. Please send me the following: Name of Corps: Name of Director: Classification of corps (bold one): World Class, Open Class, or A Class Location of corps: Years in DCPI: ----------------------------------------------------------- We reserve the right to move a corps to another class, if we feel they exceed the expectations for their registered class, we also reserve the right to move a class downward. Caption submission will come at a later date, and I will PM directors that apply to the event with the details. Schedules will come out once corps begin to register. This event will stop accepting applications once we meet our 50 corps allotment. This is a preliminary and finals competition event, and the top 5-7 (each division) from preliminary competition will advance to finals.
  19. You should feel very excited. You were the only rookie director to have a corps be represented in finals competition this year! The other 11 corps are all founding and or veteran directors. Fierce competition!
  20. Congrats to Kosmos, and to ALL DCP-I corps who participated in finals. Tri-Color was certainly not expecting a 3rd place finish last night. They members are wondering, had they kept their visual and music the same from the night before, if that would have mattered? or if the changes were the extra juice that was able to get them to where they were last night. Each year the corps gets fired up about the organization, and this will surely put more steam in the engine for next years corps.
  21. To all DCPI Directors, It is that time of the year, where we are all experiencing many emotions, many of us are wondering how we got through this season! For many corps, including my own, it has been a bumpy ride at times, but it has also been a smooth ride with lots of laughs and cries along the way. Each year, I started off the season with a lot of high ambitions, and while I keep those with me throughout the season, I realize that the groups I direct show these high ambitions throughout the season--while other groups start to shine later on. I am proud of all three of my groups for the outstanding competition they gave this season. It was their performance that gave the other groups the fire to place how they did at the end! It seems like this season just started yesterday, as it came and went rather quickly this year! Maybe that is my old age in this activity showing. Having been around since this leagues inception, they just seem to go by faster each year. Many corps have continued to maintain their finals appearance year in and out, while new directors have come in and proven they can make things happen from time to time. As you clean out and organize your trailers, walk through the food truck line for the last night, sweep and clean up the gym, sign member books, and everything that goes along with drum corps--remember that you have made history in this league, regardless of your placement or score. Every corps has earned a spot in DCPI history, and I hope everyone decides to field at least one of their corps again next season. Live seasons are so much more fun, because no one (not even the best players) knows how the ending scores will turn out. It is almost more of a fair advantage come summer, because we are all starting out with the same knowledge of that season. I would like to personally thank the DCPI administration for their hard work and dedication to making this season happen! All the best, M. Smith
  22. Tri-Color is set to go for their finals performance!
  23. For those that advanced to Division I finals, has the system been updated so we can submit finals night captions?
  24. Emerald Regime had a terrible case of food poisoning last night, but they still managed to perform a great show! They'll be even stronger next season when they come back performing their DCPI 10 production! The corps has officially made the announcement to stay in Division II, and more involved staff will be coming on board to see the corps maintains the high level of excellence. Great competition this season, someone had to be in the place we earned, and we were the best corps to hold that placement!
  25. Thanks for asking, I have been gone for a few days (Wind Orchestra tour), and I was wondering how things were going! Looks like my groups are doing well. It looks like nothing has updated yet, so hopefully this can take affect before scores are posted, so we can get our changes in.
