  1. I am aware. I was being a bit (but not completely) facetious. Having been on the staff side of things before, I can attest to there being some mixed feelings about it. Of course you want to compete. But if it rains, it rains. Nothing anyone can do about that, so you just move on down the road and get cleaner the next day. A blessing in disguise, I guess, since the decision of whether or not to perform was out of your control.
  2. While I agree that their recent shows have been a bit too "cute" for my tastes, there is no denying that they are very good at what they are being asked to perform. And barring some sort of organizational upheaval or turmoil, you may just find yourself "Crowned out" for a very long time to come. Even if they don't finish in the top 3 this year, they look to be set up for long-term staying power amongst the top corps in DCI because their organization is very strong. Time will tell.
  3. Sweet! I look forward to your review, as always.
  4. Yeah, I have a feeling this could be a very ugly night for Bones when it comes to the numbers. Which doesn't mean they can't be right there at the end of the season, just that they've got a lot going against them on June 25. It kinda sucks that they are essentially the last big corps out of the gate as well. If the rain does wash the show away tonight, I imagine some of their staff won't be too disappointed. Another day to clean!
  5. I concur. Do you concur, doctor? Dangit, I should have concurred!
  6. I'd say Cavaliers by a smidgen. My guess is they are probably a bit cleaner with better defined transitions. The Cadets still have some of that clunkiness to work out. Should be interesting.
  7. Wouldn't the use of voice require the use of the vocal chords?? I can make a popping sound with my lips, or click my tongue against the roof of my mouth to produce a noise. I can even alter the "pitch" of those sounds by changing the shape of my lips as I make them. All with no participation of the vocal chords whatsoever. Does that count as voice? I wouldn't think so.
  8. I think it sounds fine and is entirely appropriate for what they've chosen to do with their introductory moments to the show. Almost like a whistling fugue, and I also like the added echo. I think it enhances the whole thing.
  9. We're talking about the famous West Side Story gang "whistles" that start the musical. I can't think of any percussive instruments that can duplicate that specific kind of whistle, can you?
  10. I can't wait for that, actually. Then I can post..... List of corps who AREN'T playing the music of Wesley Willis: ____________________________________
  11. List of corps playing the music of Wesley Willis: ____________________________________ I'm stunned by that!
  12. List of corps whose shoelaces don't match the color of their shoes: ____________________________________ Wow. I'm blown away by that! It really makes you think...
  13. It's up to the judges, not Jonathan Willis.
  14. George is not shy about saying when things are off with his corps' performance.
  15. 4th place = 4th place No, that's neither true nor false. Since it HAS happened before, it is therefore your opinion that it will happen again this season with Crown. Fine. But it is also true that it hasn't happened in nearly TWENTY YEARS, so it is other peoples' opinion that it *might* happen but most likely won't. As I said, this is no big deal. We'll find out soon enough. It's all good......
  16. You missed my point. While most people would have been surprised if Phantom won BEFORE their performance that night, NOBODY would have been surprised if they finished in the top 3. Get it?
  17. George has posted that the HNC have taken a "major step forward" tonight with their performance. We'll see how it plays out.
  18. Yes, but they had finished in the top 3 previously in 1994, 1993, 1991, 1989, 1979, 1978, and 1977, so it was not so much of a surprise to see them place that high before. When talking about first time members of the top 3, you'd have to go back to... - 1990 Star of Indiana - 1986 Cavaliers - 1982 Garfield Cadets There are more before that, but those are the three most recent.
  19. A long time ago, a very wise man (who is currently a prominent member of Crown's staff, ironically enough) once told me, "You are your placement." You can score a 99.9 and still finish in 2nd place, and that's all anyone will remember. Crown has never finished higher than 4th. Bluecoats have never finished higher than 4th. Bluecoats have, to the best of my knowledge, beaten every current DCI corps at least once in their history. Crown, to the best of my knowledge, has yet to accomplish that. Just throwing some more facts out there... Well then, by all means, lets end the season now and give them a medal! You and I both know starting better than ever out of the gate guarantees nothing. It's simple history being against them, that's all. No big deal. They can still finish in the top 3, it's just that in order for that to happen, someone will have to be left out. And historically speaking, recently anyway, it's a more difficult task for a corps who has never finished in the top 3 before to knock one of those mainstays out. Considering the track record of the corps usually at the top, would it surprise anyone here if Crown was absolutely magnificent this year, perhaps better than they've ever been, and still finished in 4th or 5th behind BD, Cavaliers, Cadets and/or Phantom? It wouldn't surprise me at all.
  20. It's official. I haven't liked ANY Carolina Crown uniform since the day that corps was created. Weird.
  21. What's to understand? The only way CBS gets involved is if advertisers start putting up a fuss. Bottom line, nobody really cares.
  22. Me neither. I didn't even notice them on Glassmen until just now. I like everything else in this uni, just not the off-center plume.
