  1. Krazy Ivan and I will be manning the booth. Come on out and say hello!
  2. Its was. This is one of the reasons I still enjoy this!
  3. Pittsburgh was a lot warmer for reasons other than the nice warm temperture (thank God ). The Mon Valley Express took to the streets to unveil itself for 2006. With a great turn out (we were missing people whos bands and drum lines were performing also), good sounding music, and a great additude, it looks like we are on our way this season. We had people dancing in the streets (one of our Sopranos need thearpy now because of it b**bs )! Pictures are up on the web site if your interested in taking a look. www.MonValleyExpress.org
  4. Same here! If done at the right time, this would be a great (close) show for us as well. Its only a 6 hour trip for us. Anything east would be mostly 7 to 12 hours for us. Scranton was 7 hours!
  5. We did. b**bs We are out of upper brass and middles.
  6. If not for ebay we would not have 90%+ of what we have now. Jeffs best kept :sshh:
  7. I know what you mean. Serenade was my first drum corps show in 1985. I knew nothing about drum corps other than the few Steel City rehearsals I had been to. Man, what a great introduction to the activity. I love the hype outside when the weather is decent with eveyone warming up on the capitol complex lawns. And it was the same for me back in 81 with Steel City. Being the "kid" in the line was scarry and very exciting. I remember a girl from Westshore who saw me standing ing the hall all by myself there and just struck up a conversation. She was very nice and told me sever cool stories about the SIB and things that have happened and the friends she had met there. Later that night I saw her solo for the westshoremen. Silvia P
  8. and I would be on Viola if Dan would have added string parts!
  9. John, I talked to the Band Director from Windber last year and he was interested in doing a Drum Corps show there. I got him in contact with the DCA powers that be and as you see on the schedule there is a show there. This is going to be Mon Valley's first show of the season. If your interested in seeing how we are doing check out the web page. www.MonValleyExpress.org Lots of cool pictures! The Corps is doing quite well so far. We have more than doubled in size. We just need more Baritones and Color Guard. I hope this will become Mon Valleys home show if we cant get something started here.
  10. The Marching activity is something that lets people excel at what they do best while excepting them for what AND who they are. That is why I am still in it today and that is why I will continue to fight and make sure that everyone can have a place to march when they are old enough or feel they are ready. Be it Marching Band, Sr. Corps, Jr. Corps, or Winterguard, its all a grand form of expression while showing the Human side of creativity. Its one of the best places to be yourself and the only place I have found that excepts you regardless. It is proof that everybody has a place! Its what I do, and I do it VERY well. 11. I am still interested in the DCA fantasy side. Will there be on this season?
  12. I am looking forward to it! The Drum line is bigger than the whole Corps was at finals!
  13. My son started when he was 8. He played Soprano. He was very cute! Now at 16 we have marched together for a while. What better way for a Father and Son to "bond"? We had another Father and his Sons march last year too. There is a special feeling participating with your kids that many of you may or may not share. There is nothing like it! Just like Drum Corps! Right now my son has no interest in being in a Jr Corps. If and when he does I will support him to the fullest on where he wants to go (as long as its the Cadets b**bs ). But keeping that in mind its still a long flight or a 9+ hour drive to get to the nearest Jr Corps for us. I am speaking for myself when I say that. Also as Management for my Corps we would not have fielded if we limited ages. We are doing great so far this season and have doubled in some sections and trippled + in others but the same rule applies. We have a few more new members over 18 but not many. By te way, I was 15 when I marched with my first Sr Corps and 21 when I marched with my first (and last) Jr Corps! :sshh:
  14. its not much fun playing music transposed to "G" in order to play my DEG bugle. 6 and 7 flats just gets a little hard to remember at times. :P I thoght it was a blast. It was good for my musicial abilities to see something to push them a little more than the norm. b**bs
  15. We had a good time at the TubaChristmas in Pittsburgh. Pgh Drum Corps was well represented with a few members from Steel City and me from Mon Valley. We had 60 to 70 people there. The staff people here were very happy to have us come and play. There was no problems with the fact we were playing on bugles. Getting the music in G with 2 valve conversion from TubaDon was a GREAT help. Thanks for taking the time to do that and posting it for the rest of us Dude.
