  1. If I was 18 again, I guess I'd have to scrape up a whopping $210 to march the summer.
  2. Me three. In retrospect, I prolly would have dug being in SofA.....#1 to get the crowd reaction from "Georgia On My Mind" and secondly 'cuz "Nuttville" kicked azz. Were I 18 now, I'm sure I would still have chosen green team.
  3. That's actually a picture of the Northern Step Drill Team, whose director decided to form them into a drum and bugle corps in the late 70s....hence the Northmen. http://www.northernstep.com/
  4. Well, it's technically an "old corps" and "new corps" mixed photo, but I don't think anyone will mind: SPLOOOOOOIE!!!
  5. 1978 Blue Stars High mark time and hot pants........that oughta get some old farts' hearts going!!!!
  6. Found another old WGI photo: Jeff Fiedler's in there somewhere.
  7. Hmm.....I notice the bass drummer that's missing a plume.
  8. Seconded. When Pearl introduced marching percussion in 1981, part of our endorsement deal was to perform at a "corps-style" drumming seminar at the BOA Summer Workshop/Festival in Whitewater. Hundreds of band kids packed into a lecture hall. Larry McCormick comes out on stage and informs the drum line to play mezzopiano only so that individual notes could be heard. 30 seconds later everyone in the drum line looks at each other and smiles. Warm up at FFFF results in a 5 minute standing ovation. After running through the show once, the babies were cleared from the floor so that a second run-through could be done. Total rockstarage.
  9. I'm also thinking the Marion Cadets had a feeder corps called the Marion Cadet Jets.
  10. The West Bend Patriots were originally angling for corporate sponsorship from the Regal Corporation in Kewaskum, 8 miles north of West Bend...they were going to be the Regal Knights. Oshkosh Warriors became the Oshkosh Marauders for a few years. Royal Grenadiers were from Kankakee, IL Staffed by some of your Kiltie Korpsmates, Bill Schultz, Dave Martinson and Tom Sorenson. Speaking of Iowa, has anyone mentioned the Marshalltown Eye-Openers and their feeder corps the Winks???
  11. I wish I still had my poster from the late 70s of all the finalists holding up a soprano. Does that sound familiar to anybody??
  12. Whoa....that's only a half-block away from Bar Louie.
  13. So you're saying it could be a complete and total barfarama???
  14. I guess that's better than Pink Band Fags. A few more from the 70/80s (mostly regional): Americanos = Frito Banditos Pioneer--in the green/yellow uniform = Peas and Corn Blue Stars--following 77/78 = Jew Stars Glassmen = Glass holes St Croix Rivermen = Riverrats Scarlet Knights = Scrotum Bites (ouch!!) Belles of St Mary's = Balls of St Peter Precisionnaires = Osage, can you see? Colts = Dukes of Dupuke Salina Silver Sabres = Saliva Continental Ambassadors = Collosal Embarassments Kilts = transliterate the "l" and the "i' And those alums from the Chicagoland area should remember who Garfield Goose is:
  15. Sure, the riff off of the SofA nickname was used for Racine's Senior corps (at the time): The Sperm of Seventy Snakes.
  16. Hmmmm......back in '79 what struck me as funny was the "hey, let's put the shortest guy on the biggest keyboard" thing: (That's Geoff Thursby on the vibes)
  17. I'd suggest watching '74/'75 Madison Scouts (Todd Waech,) '77/'78 Blue Stars (Tom Nanni) and '78 SCV/'79 BD (Gary Gilroy) for marching mallet gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh.
  18. Correct. That'd be me in the lower left corner, and I aged out in '82.
