  4. Carolina Crown has secured hotel rooms and a great place to hang out, all a block away from Lucas Oil Stadium! http://carolinacrown.org/web/index.php?opt...:carolina-crown Who is in?
  5. FOR INFORMATION AND TO SIGN-UP.. GO TO - http://carolinacrown.org/web/index.php?opt...&Itemid=513 As part of our ever growing mission to help young performers reach their potential, we are proud to present our 2010 CrownCAMPS for high school students to attend. They will take place during Carolina Crown's Spring Training at Gardner-Webb University (see their website here: www.gardner-webb.edu). Students will have an active curriculum that will enable them to return to their schools with enhanced experience and confidence. The students will also have the ability to watch the Carolina Crown rehearse and interact with the members all while staying in a safe and secure campus life environment. What better way to help train the young adults in your organization to become great leaders?
  6. Coach Knight brought his players to Star rehearsal and then the corps went and watched their practice a couple of times when I was at Star in 85 and 86. Coach also came to the staff meeting we had before tour every year at Cook Inc. and I had the pleasure to sit next to him. I have admired him since my father would talk about him at West Point and I guess I grew up a fan of the "old skool" coach back then. I will always remember him being at a visual rehearsal and saying to myself and the other techs, "####! You're kicking the (expletive) out of these kids!" ... and we all looked at each other for a second and then busted out laughing. Times change... coaching changes... kids change... He was a great coach in his time. I remember taking $20 from a priest when IU won (Thank you Steve Alford). My father thought that was funny, because I made the priest pay up.
  7. THANK YOU DRUM CORPS FANS! About 12 hours left to vote and please take a look at www.carolinacrown.org for a very important message from all 4 corps. We would also like to find a way to break 10,000 votes for all the corps, so please don't give up on us yet. Maybe Chase will use the remaining $1 Million to divide up among all the groups based on the number of votes they receive. Thanks again DCP!
  8. So good, we had to post this on our Carolina Crown Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#/pages/C...30342640?ref=ts Nice job Taters.
  9. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#/video/v...5127&ref=nf Thank You! Please help us push through to midnight Friday. Though we are not going to be in the top 6, we want to position ourselves for a strong finish. Besides, who in drum corps ever gives up until it is over? We just aren't wired that way. What can you do to help us? 1 - Cut and paste a brief plea for the voting into as many Facebook chats that you can. Include this link http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=3...0a-88c002e0635f and ask them to vote for all 4 corps. 2 - Look at the Facebook groups you belong to and post the same plea on their page to help an activity you believe in. 3 - Email the creator/admin of that same group page and ask them to send you plea via Facebook "email" to all of the group members (since posting on the wall might not get to everyone that belongs to that group). Chase has an additional $1 Million to give and we hope they spread it out over the groups that are out of the money based on the number of votes they receive. We don't know if they will do this, but we are hoping they will. Thanks again... PS - And it disappoints me that thanking the DCP users could not be its own thread and has to be buried here.
  10. ....and I would respectfully ask the DCP moderators to leave this as a stand alone thread since it was posted by us here at Carolina Crown. We would like the DCP fans to find this here and not buried in another thread. Thanks in advance.

  12. Hey Guys, Each geography and each organization has needs and goals to help their particular area. I wish this wasn't a poll of "Who has the better" but how about "Who is going to support our activity by voting and/or mobilizing votes for these 4 corps?" ... Homelessness, Cancer Research, Disaster Relief, Music Education Programs for those in need and so much more, are ALL worthy causes from the groups that are in the Top 100. Hopefully, all of the loyal and devoted drum corps fans that come here already know the benefit of our activity on young people. I know what it has done for me and how it changed my life. Imagine, just imagine, what each of these corps can do with money to help the way they see fit and are able to help those in need in their area.... and how many people could benefit? To me, this is an amazing opportunity for each corps to do something... extraordinary. What if we as an activity, instead of over analyzing, just voted for something that we are already so passionate about? This is not the moment or the place where some "sit on their hands" because they don't like somebody's show. This is a time, the first that I know of in our activity, that drum corps can be more powerful then the shows we put on the field? How many new fans would drum corps have if any of these groups win the million? Or if a few of them are in the $100k round? More information from www.dci.org here - http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=3...0a-88c002e0635f Please spread the word to vote from the 1/15 to 1/22! Please vote... for all 4 corps!
  13. VOTING STARTS ON FRIDAY.... pledge your vote here: http://www.carolinacrown.org/web/index.php...m&formId=10 and we will send you an email with the links and great tips on how to get others involved in this cause for all 4 corps.
  14. http://www.carolinacrown.org/web/index.php...&Itemid=498 SUPPORT ALL 4 CORPS PLEASE
  15. HERE IS OUR BIG IDEA! IMAGINE IF EVERY DCP FAN HELP EACH OF THE 4 CORPS WITH A SINGLE VOTE? http://www.carolinacrown.org/web/index.php...&Itemid=498
  16. So colleges shouldn't receive grants either? Students there pay tuition. Music is a pretty powerful thing.... and for some people, what we do for young people to expose them to excellence, be it drum corps, winter guard, indoor percussion, dance classes, percussion symposiums, supporting schools that cannot afford instruments, inner city choirs, honor bands, leadership clinics, jazz band performances and getting the best adjudicators we can find and afford for them...is what we eat, breathe and sleep. Most of the corps reach outside of what you see in the summer time. It's sad that people don't see that music education is being cut from our schools and the negative affect it will have on young people. There are schools in our area who's music programs survive solely on band parent organizations! Cancer and Feeding the Poor? Great causes and worthy of your vote! Music? To some of us it is why we get up every morning... Here is my motto, "Live to serve others and create happiness and you will be rewarded!" You can use your votes however you would want to... if you would like to give all of them to causes that you deem more worthy then supporting music and non-profit organizations doing everything possible to make this experience affordable for those that want to peruse it, when the price of providing them that experience goes up every year? Then that is your right. Peace.
  17. I thought this would be a good place to start one forum for all of the info that will be coming out in the next couple of weeks. Here are two links you might enjoy: http://www.fortmilltimes.com/187/story/948413.html http://www.cn2.com/web/guest/home - scroll down in the story area on the right and find the video on 1/6 REMEMBER the voting starts on 1/15 and ends on 1/22. VOTE FOR ALL 4 CORPS! Crown, Regiment, Cavaliers and Legion Aires (dba The Colts). With the help of the drum corps community it would be great for all for corps to win at least the $100k prizes. - WE NEED YOUR HELP! And after you vote, get as many friends as you can to vote also. - Believe it or not, based on our office research, all 4 corps have a TREMENDOUS chance at this money! - You can go to www.carolinacrown.org and click on the CrownVOTE icon to pledge your vote now and we will email you when the voting starts!
  18. Hey Guys, after doing what I do for a number of years, I can say this with all sincerity... every corps needs every dollar we can find or earn. We skimp and save where we can, but never at the loss of experience for the members. The $25k was great and found money...part of it we are investing into what we need to do to make an attempt at the $1mm or even $100k... donations are down in this economy, for everyone. Every single dollar counts. If you can spare $26? Please give, then come and see the new shiney trailer you helped buy this summer. Thanks and Merry Christmas! = )
  19. Hey Guys, each drum corps is set up to do different things besides what you see in the summer... be it a inner city youth choir, middle school honor band programs, helping schools with things they could not afford otherwise, running music camps etc... this money helps. When we make our presentation in January, I think you will be both surprised and encouraged by what some of the drum corps do that when the money gets tight, some of these programs can go away... It's not always about "what you see" that the drum corps do. Sometimes it is "what you don't see" in the summer that is another part of what we are all about. Are we preventing disease or war? No, but music touches lives in so many other ways. It is the season... right? Believe!
  20. I will talk to the appropriate people and work something out.
  21. Congratulations to the Colts, Regiment and the Cavaliers from Carolina Crown. I wonder what could happen if we harness this energy in the next round?... hmmmm?
  22. (removed waiting for their official public announcement on the donors web page)
