  1. I was there in the heat and the Spartans marched fierce! They needed to do that to win. It was a tight race and I honestly didn't know which way it would go when they started awards. Surf had a great show this season and I hope they continue to do well. Teal got Spirit of Disney and that was great to see, especially since our kids started out there when Teal was Div 3! They had a great show too and I wish them continued success as well. It was an emotional summer with our son aging out, my husband retiring from the Navy, a move, etc. I was so thankful to be in Pasadena to see it all. Now I can't wait for next season. LOL I'm hoping to be in Indianapolis next summer. Guardmom13
  2. Well, for the past 6 years we've been paying dues for 2 kids to march. Our son was in for 1 year alone, then our daughter got involved. He aged out this year so we go back to dues for 1 for the next 2 years then she ages out. I've supported the Corps our kids were in any way I could - cooking at camps, sewing flags, etc. Guardmom13
  3. Okay, I'll date myself and say I saw Rush's Moving Pictures tour when I was in high school! :P Still love them. Thanks for posting the reviews and scores. I'm on the East Coast too and it made staying up until 2 am for scores much more fun! We've gone through this for 7 seasons now though. We were fortunate enough to both see Orlando and Boston Championships. I'll be out there Tues for all the Div 2-3 shows and Div 1 finals. I wish someone else here on the boards could be with me, but the schedule didn't allow for it. Guardmom13
  4. I will have to say it's more difficult to make the big GE impact when little. Our kids started in Div 3 and one year their guard had 7 members. Much tougher to make the impact with 7 guard than 20 something, ya know? Guardmom13
  5. I've seen 7th Regiment since 2005 each year and have to say they have really grown in size and maturity! They did a great job this season and I'm sorry they will not be able to go to Pasadena. Guardmom13
  6. Yeah, I'm hoping it's too early in the season to "reveal" the whole concept and that by the time I see them in Pasadena it will make sense.
  7. Please don't bash me - I've never written a review and it's early in the season so Corps will definitely progress from here. Citations - pretty good show. They seem "young" in the sense that the Corps as a whole will grow and mature with the show as the season progresses. Good sounding hornline for their size and percussion was good. Guard had some timing issues, but will probably get it together. Teal Sound - when our kids were there it was all about the drumline. They did not seem as "tight" as earlier years but still good. Hornline was really nice! Wish they could have had these numbers while our kids were there. :) Guard had some issues, but should grow with it and be better by Pasadena for sure. Spartans - original music by Key Poulin. I enjoyed the show and thought it was great. Hornline is smaller than last year but still sounded good. Drumline was pretty good. Guard is a Lennie Machado guard - if you know Lennie, enough said. :) Boston Crusaders - nice sounding hornline! Nice show overall. I did not care for the altered crutch guard used at one point. They don't seem to have the hang of spinning it and it showed with bobbles and drops. I hope they either learn to use it better or take it out by Pasadena, it could cause problems with scoring. Drumline sounded good too. Blue Knights - first time seeing them live and wow, what a hornline! I was impressed! Guard was pretty good, but for some reason the "modern" dance type movements didn't seem to go with the music. I know the show is Dark Dances, but for some reason for me it didn't seem to mesh. Nice drumline as well. Loved the Shostakovich music they used. Phantom Regiment - first off I have to say what the heck were they thinking with the guard uniforms??? Sorry to knitpick here, but Adam Sage usually has such great uniforms and flags that just go together so well with the show. I didn't get that with this show. Hornline was phenominal! Drumline was tight. Can't beat hearing PR play Firebird - nice way to cap off the show! Everyone has plenty of time to grow, tweak, and nail the show. I'm looking foward to seeing the Corps in Pasadena to see how they have all progressed and grown with their shows. I'm sure they will all be enjoyable.
  8. I'm really hoping Blue will be at finals night. I'm going out to Pasadena and will be at all the Div 2-3 shows, but only at finals for Div 1. Can't wait to see all the shows. Guardmom
  9. When our kids were with Teal Sound I know Div 2-3 Corps could be scored on Div 1 sheets if the show is largely Div 1 Corps. One year Teal performed at a Div 1 focus show - 2 days worth in Orlando. They were the only Div 3 there, no Div 2s and everyone else was Div 1. For that show they were judged on Div 1 sheets. Don't know if this has been the case at any of the shows Div 2 Corps have done recently, but Div 1 sheets are a "harser". If anyone knows for sure - let us know please.
  10. 1. Who do you root for? While I have "favorite" Corps, I don't root for one particular Corps every year. I go for the shows I enjoy each season. 2. Why do you root for them? Because I enjoy the show. 3. Have you ever been the victim of drum corps "elitism" simply because you did not march? No, but I have been involved volunteering with the Corps and Guards my kids have been involved with each season. I don't feel like anyone looked down on me for who I liked each season. 4. Have you any professional musical experience of another sort? (e.g., composer, conductor, performer, etc.) Performer back in middle and high school, County and State level performer/competitor. I was paid for performances while in high school. :) Got married, got busy and never got back into performing.
  11. And your point is? I merely stated that I was interested in their show. I'm curious as to how they will project the concept of Tarot on the field. I really don't care who did the show called Tarot - I would be interested to see how it played out. Will they have drill formations that are the same as Tarot layouts for readings? Will it be implied? Will it be literal? You get my interest in the show now? They were at the show mentioned in this thread. Others I'm interested in were not. I'm interested to see how Teal is doing this year and neither kid marches there any more. I'm interested in seeing how Cavaliers do with the Billy Joel show And So It Goes. Does that make me a Cavaliers mom?
  12. Can't wait to see the Spartans' show. I'm intrigued with their concept - Tarot.
  13. C'mon Mr Bill!!!! You know that between being a military brat and being in Drum Corps he's all about the order. LOL Guardmom
  14. Our son started with a Div 3 and had a blast. The following year his sister was 12 and we told her that she would attend 3 camps, if she hated it fine but she was going to give it a try. Luckily she fell in love with guard and stayed. After we moved, they changed to a Div 2 Corps. So, this is our son's 7th and final year and our daughter's 6th year with her age out coming in '09. We've teased our kids that we expect to see grandkids on the field one day. LOLOL It very well could happen! Our son met his fiance` in the Div 3 Corps they were in together. She then moved on to a Div 1 Corps. Our daughter is now dating someone who marched Div 1 so he understands her leaving this summer. My husband and I have discussed buying a motor home once he retires so we can travel to competitions and hopefully finals some years. We enjoy this activity and will (hopefully) continue to enjoy it and go to shows long after our kids have aged out. Guardmom13
