  1. Do BD and SCV still run bingo? What about other CA corps?
  2. I have no idea why anyone would say this. What I do know is that 5 judges watched 7 corps and gave their opinions on the relative strength of their programs. That's no more or less meaningful than any other show.
  3. pretty much what I was thinking. I don't see spats being the difference between making finals or not. However, if they make finals and then come out in spats, how cool is that?
  4. Seriously, I would save the spats for finals.
  5. Not in any way that matters. But I think there is a tiny bit of blowback to the corps when their fans overreact to scores.
  6. If tonight wasn't a fluke, Scouts will not be competing for 12th oops just caught myself hyping.
  7. Good GE numbers. It means that 2 judges think they have a well-designed show. But let's not overhype. The performance numbers are about where they have been for the past few years. They need to challenge themselves a bit more, especially in marching. Still, the odds of Scouts not making finals just went way, way down.
  8. All the GE numbers mean at this point is that 2 judges think they have a well-designed show. For June. There is a lot of room to grow in the performance numbers. That's where they need to raise the bar for themselves. Something to think about - on July 22, 2008 Carolina scored 70.7. They went on to finish in 4th. Scouts scored 64.1 and went on to finish 12th.
  9. Actually, 2nd. Beat Cavaliers and Phantom.
  10. If you don't know the history of Somewhere/Rainbow with the Cavaliers, you should really look into it. Rainbow was played by the Cavaliers from the mid 50s to the mid 70s and is their unofficial corps song. Somewhere was also played by Cavaliers, but I have to take my hats off to the Cadets 84 version.
  11. so are Scouts the only corps not wearing bib pants?
  12. I'd save the spats for finals. ;) I'd also put the guard in black pants with white shirts and black ties and suspenders.
  13. I'm guessing snaps are what led to the problem in the first place. Safety pins are the sure solution.
  14. Gershwin was living on 110th street when he wrote R.I.B. So maybe the theme is "10" as in "this show is a 10" or "we are hoping for 10th place" Or maybe it's "1" as in "we want to be first in the hearts of the audience." Or maybe it's "0" as in "we have 0 margin for error." Or maybe it's a computer-related thing as in "there are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who read binary and those who don't" Or maybe I'm just talking out my 101 :)
  15. looks sharp, but I detect some wardrobe malfunction in the sash area (2 guys just outside the 40s). Should be fixable with a few safety pins.
  16. sarcastic comment about someone else's prognostication. followed immediately by your own prognostication. sweet!
  17. You can read about it on http://www.cavaliers.org/ drop a few bucks while you're there.
  18. true, although paper horns tend to do poorly in the rain.
  19. actually, it's "MYNSA" May You Never Splooie Alone.
  20. it's a tradition that started in 1978. One of the buses got a flat tire due to a nail in the road. Everyone thought that was emblematic of our season, so we all went out and bought nails and hung them around our necks. Then we found out that a nail hanging around your neck can actually be dangerous - a lot of air mattresses were getting punctured - so we stopped wearing them. Coincidentally, the drum major podium needed repairs, so each of us pounded our nail into the podium so that it could withstand the wild gyrations of our drum major Doug "disco hips" Tholo. Actually, I just made all that up. The nails are a recent development. They're a reminder of the acronym "never alone in life" which is a reference to the Scout brotherhood.
  21. I'm looking forward to Star Alumni. I have a hard time believing anyone associated with 27th would belittle their efforts. I competed against 2-7 1977-83 and always held them in high regard as a great corps and great competitors. I was in MSARP06 and CAC08, both great experiences that went far beyond what was presented on the field on friday night. I applaud anyone who participates in an alumni corps of any form. It's like a piece of living history and it's a lot of fun.
  22. I think the black sash was worn up until 1977.
  23. This is not a bad idea, but I think it should be based on the corps that have the most entertainment value, which is not necessarily the most competitive corps.
