  1. I personally liked the SCVs 88 Phantom of the Opera show better. 89 was not quite as good and I thought Phantom Regiment should have had the win in the bag. I still like the 89 show alot - I just like 88 better.
  2. My mom wasn't too happy when I changed for my cousin's wedding in the parking lot of the church soon after aging out. I didn't see what the big deal was!
  3. I helped out with Bluecoats souvies the last two weeks of tour. It was much more work than I anticipated, but it was also more fun than I thought it would be! It made it worth the work. It was really nice to see the camaraderie of all of the souvie crews helping each other out all during tour. I enjoyed meeting some of you and wish I had had time to meet more of you. Maybe next season! :)
  4. If schools have had problems in the past - why would they agree to house a corps in the first place? It's not like DCI waited until finals week to line up housing. They have that stuff planned out pre-season. As far as I know, every corps had housing sites and what I've heard is that there were a couple schools that decided at the 11th hour that they didn't want to do what they had committed to for whatever reason (administration changes, pressure on admin from coaches/parents, etc). So it's probably the schools who dropped the ball not DCI.
  5. Wow - that's probably the best news report of drumcorps I've ever seen. They even got all the terminology right (didn't call them bands, used the term "age outs").
  6. I had the exact same reaction. Of course it was disappointing to basically be in 4th all summer and drop to 7th finals week. But I knew that Crown, SCV and Phantom had been on their heels all summer also - so I knew that 7th was a real possibility but just didn't think it was very likely. At one point, I thought Coats might have even have a shot at 3rd however I knew that was also unlikely. Then I started looking at the recap sheet and realized how close 4th through 7th really was. And *then* looked up Coats' finals score from 2006. They had beaten their finals score from last year when they were in 4th! The *top 7* this year were better than the 4th place last year! Amazing! So realizing that while not improving their placement, the scores were very close, but more improtantly that they had still improved over what they had done previously, I stopped being disappointed about the placement. Another well made point. My favorite Colts show is 93 when they first broke into finals and placed 12th. The fact that they placed 12th doesn't even enter my mind when listening to them. In my opinion for 2007, 4th through 7th place had, by far, more entertaining shows than the top 3. [This] I believe, in the long run, will be the shows from 2007 that will be remembered. (BTW - no disrespect to anyone below 7th - I didn't see anyone but the top 7, so I can't comment). (Edit: Just checked corpsreps and realized Colts tied Glassmen for 11th in 93 - wow - I don't remember that at all.)
  7. I don't find food that is marketed as "In N Out" to be very appetizing. :sshh:
  8. I agree. In fact, out of 8 or so shows I attended, I never heard one positive comment from the fans about Cadets' narration. Cadets had great music and amazing talent to perform the show this year. But I think the vocals detracted from the show.
  9. I too partook (iszataword?) in a Troopers tee. They are iconic. Also - I was helping work the booth for the last two weeks of tour so thanks to all you guys who bought Bluecoats stuff. We had record sales this year!
  10. So I'm sitting here in the Burbank airport after being dropped off from 2 weeks of working in Bluecoats' souvie booth. It's 4AM and I can't sleep (mostly because of the 80s music being practically blasted out of the airport speakers) and I'm thinking how amazing it is that Bluecoats bettered their finals score from 06 and they're 7th! The top 7 this year are better score-wise than the top 4 last year! Anyway - congrats to all the corps for an entertaining and interesting (and sometimes controversial) season. Extra congrats to Crown and Bluecoats (honk) for such entertaining shows that i believe will be the most remembered shows of the 2007 season.
  11. Bluecoats will win solely due to the fact that they have "frickin' lazer beams".
  12. SCV on "Smurf Turf" this afternoon:
  13. Volunteer for the corps. You won't get tickets to Quarters, Semis and Finals, but you'll get an event pass. You'll probably be stuck buying your own plane tickets though. However, I believe that expense is tax deductible as a non-reimbursed travel expense while volunteering for a non-profit organization.
  14. Then I think a better thing to say would be "I believe in personal responsibility".
  15. But what if the choice is to do something bad or wrong? I don't believe in that.
  16. That sparked an idea... I'll just re-edit my recording to remove all of the narration! "This I Believe v1.1" (or "Soundtrack to This I Believe") Of course it will only be about 2 minutes long.
  17. Cadets believe in a bunch of stuff as they state during their program: hard work, courage, progress, etc. These I get. They all seem to apply to the drumcorps experience. But choice? Choice of what? I don't really understand how that fits. Choice to use amps and vocals? What?
  18. Unfortunately we did occasionally have a stray rancher, but nothing was ever done with malicious intent.
  19. Personally, I would take the rump roast. You get more for your money and the money you pay for the 8oz probably isn't worth it anyway. Sure the filet is better, but the rump roast is good too. :)
  20. Wha?! BD's theme is about 6th on my list: 1. Cadets (even though I dislike the show, I think they have the best overall package) 2. Bluecoats (honk) 3. Crown 4. Phantom (tie) 4. SCV (tie) 6. Blue Devils 7. Blue Knights 8. Cavaliers I'm not familiar enough with any of the rest of the shows to have an opinion. Keep in mind this list is based on theme only - not execution. My opinion may change after more viewings though.
  21. I just downloaded some APDs a few days ago and iTunes immediately converted them without a problem. I might have iTunes 7 (can't remember for sure) so try getting the latest version - that will probably fix your problem.
  22. Word. Does anyone have an idea of whether this is really an issue with the dome or is it the stupid amps in the pit? And if it's the dome problem, is this what we have to look forward to for the next 10 years with recordings from Indy? But overall - the quality of the recordings are great. I assume they didn't have time to do any post processing of the recordings and it's just the raw recording. If that's the case, I'm really impressed with the quality other than the pit being too loud.
  23. Depends on what corps you were in. When I marcehd Sky, we were pretty much not allowed to do anything during retreat. At Bluecoats it was a little more relaxed - we could talk quietly and we didn't have to stand stiff the whole time as long as there wasn't too much movement. ...and we tossed Jolly Ranchers to other corps.
  24. The time-shifting ruling is not limited to free broadcasts. The same applies for pay-per-view. Also, DCI may make all the rules they want. But if they make a rule that they don't have a legal right to make, they can't legally enforce it.
  25. Yes - they can prosecute, but will they win? The point I (and others) ha've been trying to make is that they can draw up a contract that has any terms they want to put in there. The problem is that they may be putting terms in the contract that cannot be legally upheld. Someone could sign a contract that they'll give away their firstborn child. That doesn't mean that they are legally obligated to do so under the law, because it's not legal to ask someone to do it in the first place. Along those same lines, it may not be legal for DCI to say that you can't record the broadcast stream. The television broadcast companies claimed that they had the right to protect their copyrighted material by saying that it could not be recorded by a VCR or other means. Yet there was a legal ruling that this was not the case.
