3 Shows with EMOTION

I think the Glassmen need to quote "Just a Jigalo" somewhere in the show.

Spirit + Crossmen = Mutual Respect
Mahler replied to jacquesb's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
It's too bad that other corps do not share such respect for each other. Kudos to the current staff members for each group. -
Listen to the sops in 1988 Scouts for the first half of the show. Listen to the Blue Devils or for that matter SCV (but is always better to watch SCV)
-
hmmm...seems that more than not people agree with me.
-
Your are right. How about a response? I've given two. 89 SCV was not as clean as PH that year. That's a toss-up.
-
I do seem to remember that the Freelancers enjoyed bumping and bruising other corps old school style back in the late 80's
-
That's fine with me. I was just having some fun. Penguin, I did mean what I was saying though.

Here is the thing... Most of the time the best corps wins. Hands down. Yet, there have been a few stinker final performances that were overlooked. I'm not talking about the best show. That would be even more of a hot topic.
-
O.K. I was there. I remember that the horn line played poorly. For that matter I would not have given Madison '88 the title over the Blue Devils that year because of the way they played that night as well. That title was decided the night before at headquarters.

Remind me of the 2nd and 3rd place corps please. Thanks.
-
O.K. On that given night the corps performance did not represent the best of the competition. You also need to look at the groups complete package. GE/Visual/Brass/Percussion all need to be considered. Scoring has changed so much over recent years much of it comes down to the design the sheets on the particular year. You want mine? Cavies: 2002

What are the most difficult pieces of music
Mahler replied to gottalovit's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
First, any corps that plays swing should be placed at the top. It's just plain more difficult that playing convert band literature. The other factor is the pace of the drill. I don't think there has ever been a corps that has had such phyiscal responsibilities than the 89 Vanguard. They were incredible. With this said I still think PH should have won. That was one of the most complete show in DC history. -

What ever happened to the Geneseo Knights?
Mahler replied to Kansan's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
all I remember is that they beat Cavies at Dekalb prelims one year...YES! HaHa -
Does have any information on DC in these two countries?

Anybody remember the old Class A, B, & C system?
Mahler replied to padre141's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
Hey, I marched with the Thunderbolts in 1979. We were a class "B" corps all the way. Our first score of the year was a 36 and our final score of the year was a 42. Now that's what class "B" DC was all about...basically being bad. -
Musicallity, SCV and Rick South
Mahler replied to Mahler's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
Very, very good point. When I was young SCV was the only corps I wanted to march with. I never marched there but had the chance to get to know many of the fine people in the organization. Unfortunately, GR and I never had much interaction. I did overhear a post show talk (more like a rant) in '89 where he slammed on the sops playing of the mask. melody... dinky doooooo, dinky...dinky, dinky dooo....dinky doooo!!! really funny stuff -
Just came across Rick South's name at this place. It made me think... The best horn lines SCV ever had were under the guidance of Rick South. These were very musical lines. Today's DC's seem mechanical. Sometimes the passion of an instructor comes through in the sound of a hornline. I just have not heard this from SCV in a long time. Any thoughts? :)
