Madison Scouts Name 2008 Brass Staff

Some people choose not to be great. They play drum corps by their own terms and make great contributions. How much do you know about the people on this staff? -

Scott Boerma (Madison Scouts arranger since 1988ish) is the GOAT when it comes to the drum corps opener! -
The official "Who is that soloist?" topic?
Mahler replied to Hrothgar15's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
That would be Morgan Larson. He was kind of an S.O.B. but a great soloist for sure. The guys who came through the Madison Jr. Scouts from the late 70's were all well trained in brass techniques as well as but kicking. These were rough dudes. I saw Morgan take on and pound four guys (non-corps) in the last "Madison Fight" in history. 1985 -

Blue Stars Let's just hope this staff is thinking long term. Too many corps have made this jump only to find themselves over committed to rapid improvement. Burned out kids and overspending on "big name" teachers has been then downfall of too many corps. The Blue Stars have been for many recent years a fine drum corps. Please, take it slow.

From a brass perspective one of the most difficult things to pull off on the drum corps field is style of articulation. IMO, you have to give credit to any corps who has played jazz swing style. Bluecoats, Madison and BD stand out. Check out Madison's 1999 LUPON It's not just "Dah" -
Does anybody know about any changes to this staff for next year. They seem to have a good thing going. The arrangements are refreshing.

Check out the recording from that year. It's fun to listen the crowd at the end of the show.
