  1. Here are my 2 cents: (still early in year so plenty of cleaning to come all around) In order of Appearance: MN Brass: Looked Smaller This year. Still had a good Solid Show. Loved the color guard Uniforms very effective with different colors on the sides (shiny gold & shiny bright blue with brown in the middle) Govies: Smaller as well, First half of show okay, Second half had lots of energy. coming along nicely. Colt Cadets: Big surprise for me; these kids were great! Small but sound bigger with lots of energy. You can tell these kids are having fun with their show. Madison: Very Loud through out whole show (I can't believe I'm going to say this) but they were too loud all the time. More Dynamics would help them alot, Also their pit speakers were turned up to loud, over powered the corps at times instead of blending with them. There drum solo was great (nice to see a 5 member plate line) Also they had a lot of small visual things going on for it being this early, I was very impressed by that. Good show, better than last year. Blue Stars: good solid show, Nothing Spectacular, Nothing Horrible. Bike them is cool, lots of good interesting props/equipment in the guard. Drum solo good, just needs a little more to it. Colts: First things first: there is a sop soloist close to the beginning, She winked and pointed at the crowd, Rockstars always point, nice work. Moving on: flags moved along with the day/time passing them very well, the baton guy was good but it was a little weird. Just not something you are used to at a drum corps show. Blue Knights: Cool Beginning, Percussion rocked the show, great Pit only tune, with some great silent drill from the rest of the corps. Very nice. Ending could have been stronger. Phantom: WOW! Strong Horns, Strong Drums, cleaner than most. WOW! This was the first show where the colorguard was telling the story more than the music and it didn't drive me nuts or suck. This was a very well done show. From Drums to GE to Guard to Horns Look out DCI. Crown: Crowd Pleaser for sure Fun show great 45 second reprise of the whole show in the end with a nice signature drill form. Good fun Show. Well I hope that helps, and remember these are the thoughts of just me, no one else, God bless drum corps.
  2. Congratulations to The Sunrisers. You are Champions, Enjoy it! It was a pleasure competing with such a fine corps and all of Class A. Best of Luck for the next Season and many more to come.
  3. Okay, you guys talked me into it - I'll be there too. :P
  4. So you think uniforms are the reason for mismanagement of a corps?
  5. Alright here is my 2 cents. After the govies were done (which we rocked), I saw chops from the side (their show looked okay to me) after that I got to my seat (yes I was in the show and still bought a ticket) 50 yard line 2nd row down from the box. here is what I saw: Pacific Crest: Comes out ba##s to the wall with Viva Las Vegas. the trumpets were overpowering in the best way possible. It was great. I am not sure if they got new uniforms but what they have is awsome (black with a teal/tourqoise trangle in there somewhere) but the horns look really nice againts the unis. The only problem with the show is the occasional talking over the corps with amplification (stop that, It's distracting and adds no value) other than that good show. Southwind: Nice show, really suprised me it was the cleanest show I think I ever seen out of them. Lots of energy and good visual stuff. I don't remember what the are playing though. Intermission (buy more Govie Stuff) Spirit: Not sure if I like the new unis, but hey you gotta change your look every now and again. I really don't remember much about their show. I remember It being a good show, but nothing to write home about. Spirit has always been a solid corps in my mind and they did nothing to change my opinion of that. Scouts: I like the music. The visual was the worst of the night. I don't think I saw one straight file thye whole show. They did a lot of neat half flor-de-leaves (sp?), but it wasn't the best stadium to pick up on if it was clean from all angles. Thay have alot of neat ideas thay have good music, Cashmire was cool, but the visual staff must have their heads somewhere esle, because the corps dosen't seeem to understand where they are marching to or from or even who to guide to. the good news is that Mankato crowd doesn't care what the scouts do as long as they show up. Vangaurd: Good show, Solid but I doo think it was an off night for them, a snare dropped a stick and had to pick it up. someone lost a shoe and everybody marched around on it for a while, I just saw a lot of minor mental errors on the kids part, (stillwater looked better) The show is nice I don't know where they will end up, but they've got a fan in me. I wish all the corps the best of luck, and remember these are only the thoughts of one man.
  6. I read it that way too. Looking forward to to the trip should be a good show.
  7. The Govenaires was orignally founded in 1927 as the St. Peter Legion Corps. The name was changed in the '60s to honor the five Govenors of Minnesota who hail from the great city of St. Peter.
  8. you can earn college credit at Minnesota State University, Mankato by marching with the Govies.
  9. did i mention... ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr
  10. I am in the process of writing a reasearch paper for an english class, and as part of the assignment I need a quote from a chat board. If you would be willing to help me I would be very apprecative. The paper I write will not be published ever I just have to write it by monday. The question I am possing is which side of the drum corps activity is more benificial junoir corps or senior/all age corps, from the stand point of members, fans, and show sponsors. I am not trying to start a fight on the baord I am just looking for some thoughful answers. If you could help I would be very appreciative. Thank You
  11. Sorry I didn't mean to start two threads.
  12. Govies played Tank and Rush in '03, I've been working on our show coordinator to play it again. I also think that the Adult Swim cartoon Samuri Jack has some good music in it too. Spamalot would make a fun show too.
