  1. Man, they have a LOT of driving to do 'cause Clute is about 80 miles from the Houston show site in Cypress. When they leave for San Antonio, there aren't any really easy ways to get around to I-10 other than Highway 36 which is another long drive through bayou country.
  2. Updated July 1st (Thanks David M!) Still need locations for Academy, Blue Stars, Cascades, Scouts, Madarins, Pioneer, Vanguard and Southwind. Click here to view the updated map to all corps housing locations in San Antonio.
  3. Can't wait! Did yall get that "other" all-age corps to come to the show?
  4. If we get the uniforms we want next year (fingers crossed) we'll be all navy blue from the feet up to the chest. (Yes, blue shoes!) The upper chest, shoulders and arms will be white (like Glassmen's old uniform from '98-'00) and we'll top it off with a white aussie with a tall white plume, white gloves and gauntlets. Simple but cool, clean and effective look.
  5. I keep telling people it's not any worse here than in most parts of the country. The worst summer heat I've ever experienced on any drum corps tour was always in the plains states. Specifically Iowa and Kansas.
  6. Here are some pics I took at the show. Austin Stars first horn block. (just before our performance) Austin Stars Brass Ensemble after the show standing next to our first mode of transportation for our first road trip. L-R James Shatto (contra), Chris Sanchez (bari), Kevin Madden (sop), Rob Johnson (mello), Anthony Moreno (sop), Brent Unger (mello). Gulf Coast Sound... first big hit at the beginning of the show. GCS... end of show. Frontier... opening set. Frontier... ending set.
  7. Thanks to Frontier for hosting this show. It was the Austin Stars second performance ever and our first judged (tapes) exhibition! One of the judges said we have "talented lips"! :sshh: LOL! We had a great time and really enjoyed seeing our corps brothers and sisters. It was great to see Masquerade, too! Next year there will be at least FOUR corps marching on the field. I'll be posting pics here soon!
  8. Hey, you can hear a little bit of Austin Stars doing "Amber Waves" on there! GCS I gotta tell you guys that this is by far your best corps yet. Definitely the best hornline to come from any Houston all-age corps ever.
  9. Yee haa! Like the charts... and CONTRAS! Woof! Nice sound guys!
  10. Nice! Love the new unis and the hurricane shield on the hat is cool.
  11. See yall there! Just as I've been saying about Austin Stars this year, it's gotta start somehow. A few years down the road it's all going to be bigger and better. And by the way, to everyone out there in DCA watch out for Frontier and Gulf Coast Sound. Both corps are smokin' this year and by far the best they have ever been.
  12. Here are a few pics of the Crossmen at Texas Drum Corps Preview yesterday in Austin. The first two are my own pics and the last one is from someone else. It was difficult getting a good shot without a tripod for the camera because of the lighting. Crossmen alumni, these kids are doing you VERY proud. Pure Bones through and through! The music is awesome, horns are awesome... and the drumline... WOW! They are throwing down some major notes! Listening to them right now!
  13. Weather Update... We have a good weather "window" so everything is still "GO" for the Texas State Capitol tonight!
  14. Update... we have a weather window till 9 p.m. so we're still "GO" for performing at the state capitol building today!
  15. Sholz Biergarten will be expecting us after the show. Plenty of room for everyone!
  16. That's good to have but also they'd have to make some major changes in order to be competitive in Div I. They'd have to start all-days much earlier. According to this years Surf calendar they don't go into all-days till the last week of June. Corps dues would also probably have to be increased. The combination of more expensive dues and less time for summer jobs will make it more difficult for members to be able to march, obviously. Should they choose to remain a more community based corps or sacrifice that to be more competitive in Div I? It all depends on what direction the administration chooses to go.
  17. Donny, Very glad that you're on Pioneer's staff this year. Also glad to know that Stuart Spoon is still the percussion caption head. What a super guy! I think he's been with Pioneer for about ten years now. That's pretty darn stable if you ask me! While Music City Legend was touring the Midwest for 4th of July weekend in 2005, we had the pleasure of staying at Pioneerland for a night. I can't tell you how honored I felt especially after seeing all the old corps photos and memorabilia on the walls. I was also honored to meet Roman in person for the first time. He has dedicated his life to Pioneer and to the well being of it's members and is a great inspiration for me personally. Looking forward to seeing you guys this year. Have a great, safe summer!
