What brand of instruments does each corps use?
Mark Time replied to Mark Time's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Thanks -
Help me make a list of what brand instruments each corps used last year. Brass and percussion. If anyone knows if any corps is changing to a different brand for 2010 then let us know! What I do know... Crown - Yamaha brass and percussion Cadets - Yamaha brass and percussion Cavies - Yamaha brass and percussion Phantom - Jupiter Quantum brass Blue Devils - King brass and Pearl percussion Blue Stars - King brass - Pearl percussion

Anywhoo... Last name and First initial would suffice. I'm very curious about where corps members come from... even if it's just the city and state. Not asking for personal info like phone numbers, social security numbers, etc.

Have any corps ever posted member rosters each year? Is there a central database online of corps member rosters? It would be nice to see something like this listing member names, instrument, where they are from and what school they go to. Sports teams do this, why not drum corps?

Down years in my opinion... 1994 through 1998 I think the 2000's have been awesome. -
Madison Scouts announce drum staff
Mark Time replied to dcarr121212's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
If I were under 22 again and was going to choose a drum corps to audition for this year, Madison Scouts would be near the top of my list. This is an incredible team of designers and instructors they have assembled and I have no doubt they will be back in the top 12 again. Now I can't wait to see their show! Scouts, you have an incredible year ahead of you! -

Kevin, if you could include the name of the corps you are commenting on with each post it would be helpful. -
2009 DCA Prelims Show - Live Thread

Isn't there going to be a live webcast? I can't find that info. -
That being said and from havin the priveledge of knowing and working with him on a few occasions, DVD will spend an equal amount of time with each corps as his personal schedule will permit. There will be no favoritism. He is in it to help each corps, not for his own glory. He wants to build quality hornlines and quality drum corps, period. He's giving back to the activity free of charge. Also remember he is also on staff with Star of Indiana Alumni this season. The poll needed other options such as "He will spend an equal amount of time with each corps".

By 2012 or 2013 we will see the best Madison Scouts ever if they keep going in this direction with the staff. -

Chris "Opus" Chenault, contra player with Phantom Regiment 1989-1990, passed away just this week. His funeral was on Saturday, August 29th in Lancaster, TX just south of Dallas. I have no other details. A memorial page has been set up for him on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=121152681175

DCI World Class 2009 Finals Thread
Mark Time replied to Danielle's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
LOST CAMERA: A friend of mine lost his camera during the break at finals just minutes ago. If you find one, please contact Kim Sommer on Facebook. subskasommer@gmail.com There will be pictures of people in pink Star shirts in the pictures. -
I didn't vote because you didn't have a choice in the middle. I don't LOVE it and I don't hate it.

I was afraid this would be the case at Lucas Oil.

How are announcers at DCI events chosen
Mark Time replied to triplecrownforever's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In case you haven't received your answer yet.... Some corps intentionally have the announcer wait till a specified moment at the beginning of their show to make the announcement. This year Crown, Vanguard and Cadets are doing that. They usually have a staff member with the announcer telling him/her when to make the announcement at start of the show. The reason they do this is because the show timer doesn't start until the announcer says "DCI is proud to present Corps XYZ". At that point the penalties judge starts a timer. If it were up to the announcer alone to make the final announcement then the corps would end up going over time and get penalized for it. As for who chooses announcers or how they are chosen, I don't know. Many major regionals are announced by Dan Potter and Brandt Crocker. The two of them tag team during championships week with Brandt doing the honors at finals as he has always done for decades. Local shows usually have their own announcer. Sometimes the small shows get the same person who announces the school football games or it might be a local radio personality. Sometimes it's a band director and other times it may just be a band parent. -
I think you have successfully proven that person wrong. I can understand why he/she was thinking that because there are definitely times when I get that impression on DCP forums.

Good poll. Thanks for including 2nd and 3rd favorite.

Troopers were my pick. Academy has improved quite a bit. For Pioneer this is one of their best years in quite a while.
