  1. Phantom 93 is absolutely on my Top 10 list. It was such an incredible show. I know Tim Gray! He's a great guy...he writes drill for us at Millard West (even though I graduated...whatever). We got to talking a few times. Do you still keep in contact with him? Edit - Also, Tim told me he wrote drill for The Death Hunt, or a portion of it. Thanks a ton for writing that piece, by the way Nikk :)
  2. I'd like to agree with everyone here. "Oh, my God, the baby's burning!!!" :)
  3. Could NOT agree with you more! They would certainly get enough interest.
  4. *Shrugs* If they did, it would be waaaay back to my sophomore year. I be a college freshman now. B) And yes, Blue Valley is a great program. I feel privaledged to be a part of it. Did you know the director, Martin Dunlap, recently retired? He literally took that program out of nothing. Man I respect him. And don't feel bad if the thread drifts...I started it anyways ^0^
  5. Serious?! I would've been judged by you for possibly both years. What did you think of Blue Valley? b**bs But seriously, the talent here is so underrated and CUT OFF from the rest of the world. :sshh:
  6. I'm auditioning for the Colts this upcoming December and some other corps. A risk that I am seriously considering is Phantom Regiment, because it is their 50th anniversary, I would love to be a part of that history, and I love the Regiment to death. Would that be worth it? My dream is to make the Santa Clara Vanguard, because they are my favorite corps ever, but I'm giving that time (they're all the way in Santa Clara anyways). Other corps condidering (considering area and interest in corps): Blue Stars, Bluecoats, Capital Regiment, and Madison Scouts.
  7. Hey thanks guys so far...just for a quick update, I have pretty much solved my double buzzing problem, and my control and tone is getting a lot better. Thanks a lot! :) PS - Any more help would be great.
  8. Aww, I loved this show top to bottom. But I guess that's my opinion. I have to put in a vote for Cavies 03. Besides the whack-a-mole and trumpet screamer (were they the same movement? I can't remember) the show bored me. Sorry to all those that marched it, because the drill book was incredible buuuuut the music was flat.
  9. Oops, maybe I mixed medicine with math. Talk about a fried brain :P
  10. George N. Parks showed us a 1979 video of when he was drum major of the Reading Buccaneers during our Drum Major camp in Illinois. If any of you don't know of him, he is a very eccentric man, which showed a lot while he was conducting. In the video he showed us (which I believe was from DCA Championships), a guard member literally fainted while performing the show, and while the show was still going on, Parks jumped down from his podium as one of the Asst. DM's ran over to center, and he ran over to the fainted guard member to help her and carry her off with the parametrics (is that the right word?) in a stretcher. He then jumped back up on the podium and conducted the rest of the show. What an amazing man...here's an interesting blurb on him on the Buc website: "George joined the Buccaneers as a contrabass player in 1974. From 1975-1987 he reigned over the Drum Major community as the “Mace Bering Professor”. Truly the ultimate field general, George’s leadership on and off the field is exemplary. Those who marched with him or watched him perform always saw the fire in his eyes and an unparalleled intensity for performance excellence. Audiences were thrilled by the aerial work of his spinning mace. He truly embodies the spirit of what it means to be a Buccaneer. George is a member of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame, and is the founder of the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy, a national leadership summer program for marching youth held at various sites around the country. He is also the director of the University of Massachusetts Minutemen Marching Band."
  11. BTW, I am being taught by my assistant band director right now (tuba performance major, but stellar on baritone), but any extra advice is better than none! Just wondering what's out there in the drum corps world.
  12. Amount of time practiced: Around 6, 7 months. Main problems so far: Control on lower notes (double-buzzing is a common problem), and I need to extend my range (Right now I can play up to the Bb on the top of the bass clef staff comfortably, D at times and half steps above only sometimes). Wanted: General tips for the future corps member, just so I either don't begin to develop bad habits, or just because. Reward: THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU And...go :)
  13. It's like 1984, The Handmaid's Tale, and A Brave New World all tied together, in drum corps form!! Well, not really. That was scary. But I would like to see the Spirit of Coca Cola's uniform. They'd be refreshing.
  14. Ooooh ooooh, could you post 'em here too, pretty please? b**bs
  15. Whoa! Dude, I love that show, and that moment was definately bada** I'll have to double check after spring break...
  16. RAILLE, unfortuanately, no. But he moved to Sioux Falls Roosevelt and became a director there. Wow, he must have been good, we all know what he does with Roosevelt Gumby, I've never heard of him. I've only gone to the school for two years, though (I moved here after my sophomore year). The band program has gone under a lot of staff changes in the past years, though...
  17. Yeah, they built a new school, Papillion-La Vista South, just last year. They're more fine-arts oriented, so their sports teams stink :P , but their music programs are pretty good. Lots and lots of All-Staters from that area...it's one talented district :) . JohnRic, you don't live in the Omaha area now, do you? Gumby, are you still in Nebraska? What do you do?
  18. Yeah, even Kansas City held world championships back in the day. What happened to the interest? I can almost guarantee the interest would be here if there was enough advertisement...
  19. So, I just came under the impression that Omaha used to have a junior drum corps that by the sounds of it wasn't all too shabby. And was in existence 'till the mid 90s even. I for one find this awesome, and now I am very curious. If anybody has anything at all that you would like to share (info, players, scores, history, pictures, etc.) I would love to hear/see it! :)
