dccorpsfan
During the era of the tick system, there are actually a few corps that achieved negative scores!I wont embarass the corps by naming them here, though. How is that even possible? How can you perform that poorly? Edited July 8, 2007 by dccorpsfan

Alright, you had your fun. In case anyone didn't know, negative scores are just an urban legend. The lowest score tabulated on open-class sheets was by Los Charros of Illinois on July 24, 1981, in Madison, WI, who scored a 4.2. Granted, they were competing in cadet class, but scoring was on the open-class scale (obviously). Lowest open-class score would be when Racine Scouts tallied a 4.8 in a DCM contest on July 4, 1982 in East Troy, WI.

I'd still like to know who the lowest-scoring Open-Class corps is.

ChicagoFan
All I want to know is: How you can do that poorly? What does it take to just score so low? Again, this was the era of "tick" judging. For every mistake, infraction or failure to perform to a certain standard, a mandatory deduction was taken away from the score. A young, inexperienced corps struggling to master their program could accumulate quite a few ticks and, likely, weren't given very many positive points in the build-up categories on the sheets. I dare say some of today's corps might see significantly lower numbers if judged against the old system.
jkyeag
I would look at the first years of DCI (early 70's). Your answer is probably lurking there. :) I agree. The score sheets were evolving to build up captions. See the following: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.arts.ma...32f13681d7b7c09
kusankusho
Like I posted elsewhere, we had around 65 corps in 1972 in Ontario..... now there are 2 Div 3 corps. There has been a resurgence of Alumni corps, though, so maybe they will take an initiative to get another corps going.... it would be nice! I'm hoping Northstar organization will start a DCA corps....

Props, or something . . . a note of interest I suppose for the Falcon Ridgemen who have the lineage of placing last under three different names, and technically organizations. Same with the Troopers...they should never be anywhere near last.

Keep in mind that from 1986-2005, Blue Stars were an A60/Div2&3 corps. In '87 they got 3rd in A60 competition, and looks like they scored high enough to move on to open class prelims.
