  1. That's what I've noticed. It's too rich for my blood now, that's for sure. DCA, here I come!
  2. I know the volume on that one was crazy too, but I remember the bottle dance being fairly clean.
  3. It was probably a mix between the crowd going nuts and the energy running through everyone's vains. Aside: Unless I'm mistaken, that was the second to last time Santa Clara would perform Bottle Dance. They would do it once more in 1992 for their Fiddler on the Roof show.
  4. I know Scott Johnson marched when the Devils won their first title in '76 and is an instructor now. I don't know if he's jumped from corps to corps or started teaching percussion recently, though.
  5. Active: The Cavaliers "Standing Man" The Santa Clara Vanguard shield and bugle Phantom Regiment chevrons Inactive: The Kingsmen coat of arms The Bridgemen lightning bolt 27th Lancers
  6. Just read the article and LOVED IT! But hey...why not give glockenspiel hero a try? :)
  7. I know, right! Wait, I'm a Nationals fan...I shouldn't be talking. *sits in the corner*
  8. Ah, alright. Sorry if I seemed smug. I know I wasn't around for that but...I'm a Washingtonian through and through so...I had to pipe up. :) Anyway...horray for Franklin Field! '75 and '76 were great drum corps years.
  9. I've never heard that sterotype about Phantom people.
  10. I'm sorry...I just can't get on board with the woodwind thing. If that makes me a bitter, caveman; then so be it. I perfer my drum corps with just brass, percussion, and guard.
  11. There's really no use comparing a college marching band and a drum corps. They have different purposes, different levels of ability. The LSU Marching Band is out there to cheer on the football team. Phantom Regiment is out to win the Drum Corps International title. Like you guys said...apples and oranges.
  12. RFK is in D.C. (home sweet home) You might be thinking of The Vet.
  13. There are little things I notice about old school shows that I never noticed after the first few viewings. Some folks pick up on all the little details at first glance and others don't. Perhaps you and I are the latter.
  14. I don't think so. I mean...I guess it's nice to clap for all the shows, but if you don't care for it, you don't care for it. Kind of off topic, but: I know there are PLENTY of people who don't cheer after my high school marching band performs. Doesn't hurt me any.
  15. We can stop debating now. THAT is true drum and bugle corps (sans the drums as far as I can see). It is if you've got my condition :(
  16. Right on, man. I'm not marching yet, but I have nothing but respect for the previous generations of drum corps marchers. Whether you marched with a valveless bugel and a sling snare or a B flat horn and quad-tenors...my hat goes off to you.
  17. Wasn't "MacArthur's Park" a concert tune in '75?
