BariEuph
a clarification -- the drill was used only to make a hole for a piece of yarn -- there were no finger holes in the tubes, and it was used infrequently to reinforce the shape of the air column, etc. we never did extended breathing exercises through them. (what can i say, i'm getting old, the memory is going :P )
Minimaster
I stand by what I said earlier in this thread. Well, the resistance and pressure your embouchure feels is going to increase if more air is blown through it into in instrument, that's just the way the world work. You can't just say that twice as much air shouldn't feel any different. You just think in your head that it should feel the same. That's why we practice so our embouchures can be strong enough to take the different resistance and pressure of different notes and volumes and be able to operate efficiently, making each note sound as pure as the next. rai-mello
At Raiders, this past year was the second time we used it. I personally say it's quite nice. It's not revolutionary or anything, but it helps get your air going.
mellodramatic
The worst part about air max is you can't take in enough air to catch your breath, but you also can't exhale enough air to get rid of all the bad air. That's why if you do it in intervals with running in between, it helps you fight the urge to bail out and breathe, which you often get during a hard part of the show that has long sustains.
