Drum corps popularity in the general public

Well, I was 14 and 15 when I marched with that corps, so I guess your last statement works....there is a REASON I moved over to Garfield after the 69 season! However, I doubt it would have much of a diference had my non-corps friends seen even them. Marching around with short hair in military style unis in 1970 was not really something too many looked at with favor in the Flower Power era!

Don Ellis. Very strange performer and trumpet player. "Strawberry Soup" may be one of the very few pieces that you could march. He was into uncommon time signatures.

I remember seeing him and his band....well orchestra, I guess, given the string section and french horns....around 1973'ish, and he counted off one of his tunes like this...

1-2-3,1-2-3,1-2,1-2,1-2,1,1-2,1-2,1-2....and that was just one measure...it was written in 19/8. :smile:
