BOBSMYTH
That is great. I knew there was a reason why I played trumpet.
Coathope
Good point about flutes. But in the sense of trumpets being the most in tune.....two things. 1, flutes are more in tune. 2, I know some trumpets that could use some help with this "tune" thing.. You're entitled to your opinion, but if I had to choose between your opinion and Wynton's - I'm going with Wynton. Flutes (plural) in tune????? :sarcasm=on In an ensemble, the only time a flute is in tune is during a rest. However, if played as a solo instrument with no accompaniment it might be in tune once in a while. :sarcasm=off
MikeM
Come on, it's trumpets for sure. Everyone knows how to tune 8 Mellophones - Shoot 7. You don't hear that for Trumpets!

There's another way to tune 8 mellos. You tune each one to a different note and write the part so that only one mello plays at a time. Shadow_7
Unless you're talking about slide trumpets (which are illegal to use in DCI or DCA), I'm not sure HOW they could be in tune at all. Everyone knows that trombones are the only brass horns capable of perfect intonation. But I guess that depends on your tuning system. Just intonation, mean tone, ????
