Tom Brace
Just asking... Horn players? Guard? Drummers? Drum majors? Which section can boast the best corps directors through the years? I'm going out on a limb and guessing horn players.
DCIHasBeen
Traditionally, I'd have to say drum majors ... Seems to be where many of them come from (Fielder, Gibbs, Valenzuela, to name a but few.)

TerriTroop
Pit! [hears crickets.....] I think it's a lot more about personal charisma, ability to hold forth in the face of adversity, dream big and then PLAN for that dream, love working with people but know when you have to let them go.... So much is needed in one person to do the job well enough to get the kind of respect you need to keep a corps afloat. That said, I'm saying Snare. Just because. (has there EVER been director who was a former pitster?)
