The 2009 edition of The Brigadiers is pleased to bring you a “new” rendition of the famous “Pictures at an Exhibition”, with a big emphasis on “new”. Not only are the musical selections new to The Brigadiers, some even to the pageantry activity as a whole, but there is a new Design vision and Instructional energy, as well.

Brass Arranger and Supervisor Pete Blake weaves Modest Moussorgsky’s familiar “Promenade” into the show as an introduction to each of the four “pictures.” At the end of the first “Promenade”, the Corps climbs Richard Saucedo’s original composition, “Snow Caps”. This energetic piece is filled with the angles and soaring peaks of a mountain range, and then moves on to his “With Each Sunset;” a richly melodic tapestry of colors and emotions. The rarely heard “The Red Machine” by Peter Graham, which follows, draws on the traditional strength and majesty of England’s Royal Guard, but with new Percussion Arranger Lee Beddis bringing his unique sense of percussive drama to the production. The last picture visited is “A Young Person’s Guide to Orchestra”, the Benjamin Britten classic. Program Consultant Bob Vitti has encouraged an innovative exploration of this storied piece, a challenge The Brigadiers’ arranging staff will meet with their own distinctive approach and exciting conclusion.

The guard staff is also “new” to The Brigadiers in terms of their roles, with Melody Wildrick assuming the role of Auxiliary Supervisor and Christian Delmotte heading the Auxiliary Design team. Their imaginative approach to the four interactive “pictures” on the field will bring a different “look” to The Brigadiers’ program, combining body, equipment and form in creative and effective ways.

The elements of Form Design and Staging are given a “new” twist by a familiar face, with Visual Designer Rick Morey returning to work with The Brigadiers and a revised visual staff. The visual concept is inspired by the art of Piet Mondrian in props, flags and even form, itself. This abstract direction will allow viewers to relish the constantly evolving colors and shapes the Corps presents.

For your listening and viewing pleasure, The Brigadiers are proud to present their “Pictures at a New Exhibition.”

2009 Open House & First Rehearsal Camp

The Brigs will begin their 2009 Season with an Open House and first camp December 6 & 7, 2008 at Canastota High School. Additional information concerning times and location will be posted on our website at www.brigadiers.com.

With roots dating to 1938, The Brigadiers Drum & Bugle Corps was reorganized in 1991 after a nineteen-year absence from competition. The Brigadiers are 5-time Drum Corps Associates World Champions, winning titles in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, and are one of only two drum and bugle corps to ever win four consecutive DCA titles.

Sounds like a great program. Best of luck, Brigs!

I'm a fan of Young Person's Guide -- looking forward to hearing the Brigs' twist on this great tune!

I don't like to be the "nay-sayer" but just pointing out that Cru "Pictures at an Exhibition" for the last two years...

All the best in 2009!

I really like the direction that the Brigs are going in - it's different (especially for them)

And you can't go wrong with Melody on staff

Later,
