Box Center Episode 2009-1

Recommended Posts

The first episode of 2009 for Box Center takes the time to remember Michael "Cozy" Baker. Cozy, who passed away this past December at the age of 60, was a major part of the drum corps activity as a fan, writer, volunteer, performer, and promoter/evangelist of drum and bugle corps. This memorial, recorded on the same day many of Cozy's family, friends, and fellow drum corps lovers gathered to pay tribute to his life, will feature Cozy memories from people like Frank Dorrite and Tony DiCarlo, as well as audio clips of drum corps performances featuring Cozy. Please feel free to download this episode and join in remembering a true drum corps fanatic.

Thanks Kevin.

1994 Empire Statesmen...Cozy worked his azz off to play in THAT lead soprano section. When he showed up and told me he played lead, I graciously put him between me and Chris Castellon, next my brother Tom, etc. He learned quickly that the leads had to take MOST of the blame for anything that was wrong in that hornline. Dont get me wrong, Cozy could freakin' wail with the best of them, but that lead line wasnt about playing as an individual, and he learned VERY quickly, never shying away from doing pushups without me saying anything to him. I even made him stop playing with vibrato, at least for a hot second or two...he earned his World Championship ring that year!!!!

I miss Cozy!

Donny
