camel lips
It seems to me that the top ten consists of mostly large horn lines. Can someone give some specifics of a top ten corps in say the past 5 years that have made it into the top 5 with a small horn line? BOSMarcher
That would depend on your definition of a small hornline. I would consider anything 32 and smaller to be a small hornline... others would think 25 and under, while some think anything under 50 is small (that was me a few years ago). Crusaders did not have a massive hornline last year, and I think Bush was even smaller. Disclaimer: Bush had one of my favorite hornlines last year. They served as an inspiration to corps with smaller lines. You don't need 50 horns to go Open... they proved that last year. Heck, they placed 6th! That's pretty good for any corps. Jeff Ream
a question...do the Renegades still threaten to fold if they come in 7th?
camel lips
Bush last year, Hurcs in 06 and 07 immediately come to mind Looking at the top 5,,,there does seem to be some reward for larger horn lines. Bush being the exception in 08 all the rest of the corps in the top ten had 40 or more brass.

camel lips
well no Ed, lee has threatened it himself many times Is he speaking for the corps administration when he says that?Or just a tongue in cheek remark by a marching member? Huge difference there./

I think larger hornlines tend to hide more. I think a smaller hornline could place well, but it would be a harder task because they would have to be much cleaner... members would not be able lay out or hide tone qualities. Plus, there is GE to consider.
