strutta
What the hell is the point of not bringing the very best of whom you can bring to this thing? Keep it coming SU! Bring it the #### ON!! Should we (or any other mini corps) finally beat your arses, none of us would want to think we beat the 'B' team!!! Any whiny mini corps ###### that can't handle Star's level of excellence may want to consider another venue for your 'competition'. If you want to be the best you have to beat the best. For the last three years, Star United has been the BEST. If you can't bring an 'A' game to the table, stay in the shallow end... MASS BRASS PS. Cool bios. You guys are funny...for midwesterners... Swung8th
Perhaps there were some mixed messages or something? Great bios SU, but what happened here? Why are people "###### off " as Sara put it? Edited August 2, 2009 by Swung8th
84BDsop
Perhaps there were some mixed messages or something? Great bios SU, but what happened here? Why are people "###### off " as Sara put it? No...you just didn't see the post that started it off because it was probably removed before you read the thread. Brassomaniac made a one line comment that came across to a number of people (myself included) as a continuation of teh "Star uses pro players so they have an unfair advantage" slam.....very similar to the same kind of crap Star got during it's DCI years (although those were more related to money). This, of course, ignores other groups that have used pro musicians in teh past....Joey Pero, for one.
nukeme70
My opinion...if you are out there to win, then use whatever resources you've got. If your goal is to have a great time and entertain the crowd, then don't have any expectation of placing towards the top. Either choice, you should be able to reach your goal. I think the SU folks know that they will be at or near the top - the only way they'll be disappointed is if they come in behind one of the groups that are only shooting for the second goal. I know we're going into the competition with the same goal that we have for the full corps - entertain ourselves, entertain the crowd, impress the judges...in that order. If we score well with the judges and come in ahead of a bunch of other groups, then we'll be ecstatic, but as long as we do the first two, we'll be completely satisfied. I'm not saying that SU is not entertaining, or that they aren't having fun, just that they have a different philosophy on the whole minicorps competition than some of the other groups that are entered. Would the discussion be different if it were (resurrected) FutureCorps? How much of the (apparently deleted) discussion is geared toward the professional resumes vs. the Star of Indiana/BT/Blast resumes? As mentioned earlier, it's nothing new for full-time professional musicians to make appearances at mini corps, or for that matter, on the field. Good luck to all, and hope to see a nice and appreciative crowd on that Friday! (I'm pretty sure I won't be disappointed...)

I am sorry to have to come back on here, because I said that I wouldn't ... but I didn't say anything like that - You are totally misrepresenting what was said, and making it what you want it to mean .... and FURTHER, I clarified my statement, along with compliments about Star, which were later erased by the mods. Seems pretty unfair to paraphrase my words, and impart meaning to them, after they've been erased from here. I said: "That is what I've been saying all along". THAT was the entirety of my statement, And my clarification was added, to state that I was "giving credit to those corps' who have almost kept up with your fine corps". NO SLAM or complaint of any kind against Star. In response to that, I was gratuitiously slammed by another poster for deserving a a good tongue-lashing, then called a whinny boitch, and now after the mods have tried to reset the discussion, YOU again are mis-representing what I said. *edited to reflect MikeB's correction* Edited August 3, 2009 by brassomaniac
BOSMarcher
I would like to see this group back on the field. Even with smaller numbers, I bet they would do well in Open Class.
84BDsop
I am sorry to have to come back on here, because I asked to have my account closed, so that I couldn't ... but I didn't say anything like that - You are totally misrepresenting what was said, and making it what you want it to mean .... and FURTHER, I clarified my statement, along with compliments about Star, which were later erased by the mods.I said: "That is what I've been saying all along". On top of all that, all Melligene said was that these weren't "weekend warriors". And he gave credit to a couple of corps for being competitive against such good musicians. He even added the "the fans win". I agreed with the spirit of the statement. Where is the slam???? Considering the original posts were removed, I was going by memory...but I DO recall your post looking like you were agreeing with one that was commenting on SU having pros....even though that's nothing new at ANY level of DCA...SoCal Dream had a pro playing in the pit in 04 (soloist). Apologies to you for misremembering it, but your post DID come across to me as I said.
TomPeashey
Moderator Please... It really sounds like so many posts have been removed and changed to the point that this thread is convoluted and misleading... Suggestion: Close it!
Paralda
This argument is pointless. On topic: those are really cool bios. I wonder if any other Corps do that.

I hope that the mods will leave this up, so I don't go down as a Star Basher, based on some third parties' recollection. I think I ought to have SOME say about WHAT I MEANT, in my own statement. Here's the whole thing for you to see: The original post I commented on: "Very Impressive Indeed. Explains alot. No weekend warriors here. Wish we could be there. Also says alot about Mass Brass/ Golden Eagles et. al to come so close. FANS WIN AGAIN !!!!" (my emphasis added) My Reply: "That is what I have been saying along" My follow up post ( as I can best remember): Clarifying that I was giving credit to the few corps who have almost been able to keep up with "your fine corps". Plus added comments to clarify that I had NEVER slammed Star and was not meaning to slam them NOW. Complimented their program, plan, work ethic and performers. Added that the some of the Bios were impressive and that Star put them up there and might expect to get comments about them. Doesn't sound anything like what you said, above. I think people are hearing what they want it to mean. PLUS, the original poster and I have exchanged cordial PM's and have set the record straight as to what our intents were. But just for the record, since I'll be cut off from reply soon: I don't have ANY problem with Star's performers, never have, and did not mean to imply that I did. And yes, please close this post, so that more people don't come on to speculate what they thought I meant, in a post they think they remember. BONUS: Here's another post of mine, from a recent comment about Star, which reflects my same point about the excellent resources of the other top corps, in comparison to Star- FAR from a complaint that they have an advantage: QUOTE (wishbonecav @ Jul 20 2009, 10:06 AM) www.starunited.org ...the heavyweight champion is coming back to town with guns blazing.... My Reply........ Ha Ha! I didn't say it was gonna be easy! Or likely. But, we do have a few talented players over here, too. And a few Mini-corps' with the same kind of determination and work ethic. So, anything is possible. If you are reading into these that I am slamming Star, then you're hearing what you want to hear. They undeniably have a talented corps, and so do others in the business, and I have repeatedly commented about how GREAT this is.
