Possibly $$ related? (Some young techs will teach for food and a cot. Kudos to them.)

I think she just showed interest first so she got the advantage over Mr. Float

he is now teaching at Santa ana High School, in santa ana, ca. Hey, they're on their way to sounding like a college show band line...lol but then again i'm notpercussionist, if it weren't for his teaching, they probably wouldn't even have a drumline. All i know is our director turned him down four years ago for one of the blue knights snare techs

I just saw santa ana this past weekend out at chaffey high school. They were pretty decent for it being the first show of the year. I can definitely see their line being one of those that you go to watch warm up before they go on. excited to see them at finals time.

Interesting that Float started in a drum and baton corps in W. Pa. There used to be legions of them, some of them pretty good, some pretty bad. Most of them were taught by drum and bugle corps folks. Apparently this is a dying tradtion. The last several parades I've seen most of them that still exist (Golden Triangles were a biggie) now have girls dancing to amplified music.

Interesting you name drop Golden Triangles, because that is the drum & baton that Float started with.

Actually talked to him in Disneyland after he did a little performance. Cool guy. Had nothing but compliments for our band also. Nice to see him over at VK now.
