Mighty St. Joe's entering 20th Season in 2010

Recommended Posts

Alright, somebody's going to have to help me out here because I'm all screwed up as usual. Wasn't the corps once known as "Mighty St. Joe's of Batavia"?

What part of "Mighty St. Joe's Alumni" don't you understand?

I thought "Mighty" was more attributed to the other St. Joe's corps from out east,..............

Originally Mighty St Joes was Father Kellys Boys from Batavia, then they became St Joesphs of Batavia, them Mighty St Joes, then when the Alumni Corps was formed, it was centered in Leroy, the home of Corps Director Sully, thus it became Mighty St Joes of Leroy New York, now on the starting line. Best I know.

IIRC...St Joes of Newark WERE at some point known as Mighty St Joes...in the 1950's perhaps. The Batavia version of St Joes became more popular in the 1960's and somehow inherited the "Mighty" moniker. We were being called "Mighty St. Joes" in the 60's, and when the Alumni was formed just kept the name.

Now that the Mighty St Joes question is answered, let's get ready for 2010 and everyone get ready to be wowed by the sound of Mighty St Joes 20th year show. It's sounding great so far, let's get everyone to practice and wail!!!!

Hey 20th anniversary, how about breaking out the old uniforms, the originals, must be at least 100 of them in storage.

Correct Donny ... the original Mighty St. Joe's of Newark were a powerhouse in the early 50'a with such greats as Bucky Swan, Tommy Martin, Harry Hazelwood, Jimmy D'Amico and Joe Genero in their ranks ... they placed 3rd in the 1954 AL Nats ...
